What do I do with bananas?

Bake them! in a little OJ, butter and a tad of sugar on top. My kids could go thru a whole casserole pan of them. You can put them under the broiler at the end just to brown the tops.
Or nuke them with the same ingredients. Oh so good.

Hellmans Original vs Hellmans Olive Oil Version

I got the olive oil version too. It is awful. Doesn't have that yummy flavor Hellmans is known for. I immediately replaced it with the original. My daughter experienced the same disatisfaction with the olive oil version.

Yes, we read flyers, and will try to take advantage of the marked down items. But occasionally we are out of lots of meats, and I have to do a heavy meat shopping regardless of the sale items.

Rotel Velveeta Dip

Love it!!

Do also try some sour cream mixed with Picante Sauce, a spoon of sugar & chopped Jalapenos. So good.

Can tough (cooked) ribs be tenderized?

Pineapple juice has papain(sp?) which is a tenderizer. We always add it to wrapped racks of ribs for the last hour of cooking then put the packets in cooler wrapped in towels to keep hot and further tenderize. Maybe you can incorporate some of this into your dilema.

What foods have you made and then decided store bought was good enough, thank you, based upon cost, time, and taste?

Chilles Relenos. They were perfect, tasted JUST like the ones we get at fav Mexican restaurant, but very labor intensive. I'll wait til we go there from now on. Just the prep on the poblano peppers is a time consuming mess. I would use them for lots of dishes were they not.

I haven't tried this, but after pounding it out flat, the piece might be big enough to make 2 stuffed items?? I hate them so big too. I just bought the individually wrapped sliced breasts to do Chicken Francaise with, and the size and slices were perfect. 1 breast fed us both!! Worth the extra price for this.

Does preparing for a dinner party keep you from entertaining?

Yes. I just turned 70 and seldom entertain because it leaves me wiped out. I feel bad, because I am doing some of the best entrees I ever have and would like to share them. Just getting the house 'company clean' is a major chore for me. Hiring a cleaning service is out of the question.

Why do people go to All-You-Can-Eat Buffets?

I go to Asian Buffets because I love most foods Asian. I can get variety and choose small portion sized to try new items.
I work at not eating more than usual, trying salad items, mains and occasionally desserts. Pigging out is stupid, and defeats my purpose of variety and my choices.

Birthday Dinner in Rehoboth

My birthday is coming up, and I've already told DH that I want to go back to Dos Locos in Rehoboth. They have a wonderful menu, including a lobster enchilada or taco, that is just loaded with lobster and so good. DH got lamb and it was huge and delicious(we shared tastes). It wasn't dirt cheep, but neither was the food. Everything was special, and the seasonings perfect.

How do you eat sushi with other people?

We often go out as a family for sushi, but only order for ourselves. Sometimes our teen grandsons will try some of our sushi, but most often we eat what we order.

Freezing Bacon?

We do it all the time with good bacon from the butchers. I have even separated it on wax paper and rolled the paper up and frozen it, so as to be able to get out individual pieces.

Eggplant Lasagna (or lasagna with eggplant)

I cheat and buy the eggplant already breaded, cooked & frozen. I use it in place of the noodles and layer just like Noodle Lasagna. I've never had nor made it with both. But it sounds good. We have been getting away from heavy carbs.

Dominos' pizza making pizza with a fried chicken crust

Google meatza, we've been doing it for a long time. And fresh sliced tomatoes are the best on it. We got a cast iron pizza pan to use on the grill. Yummy smokey flavor.

I would think by tasting it you could tell if it was THAT raw, or just appears that raw. I would try that before overcooking it by putting back to cook more.

Food for non Patients during hospital stay

Dear Hubby(of 48 years) will be having heart bypass surgery next week. He will be well fed, but then there are our 3 adult children and I who have to eat too.
I am planning to make a quiche the day before he goes to bring in slices to warm in the family kitchenette. I need some good ideas for snacks, and alternatives to sandwiches for lunches. Dinners I am planning out.

Quiche pie crust question

I've always baked mine til golden. If it puffs, it will go down while cooking.
Lately since we have been doing low carb I have just not used a crust. Everyone seems to like it, it always disappears! And it's one step less for the cook!! I like that!

I go to the Asian store to get mine. Haven't gotten a bad one yet from there.
