Pom safe to drink?

I purchased a large bottle of Pom pomegranate juice at Costco. It was in the refrigerated case. I got home and put it in my pantry (which is in the bsmt and cooler than the rest of the house...) and a week later realized that it was to be kept refrigerated. It was unopened. Is this safe to consume or should I just go ahead and boil it down to make a lovely pomegranate syrup?

Cleveland - DTN/Lakewood recs

Thanks Stuart. Sounds like we need to get to Bar Cento. Lebanese is a good rec. I am going to check out the Siam menu online.

Cleveland - DTN/Lakewood recs

We'll be staying in Lakewood the weekend before Halloween. Arriving Friday and staying through Monday morning. We need breakfast recs for Lakewood and a lunch place near the R&R Hall of Fame (or some place that won't require waiting in line for an hour...) and one nice dinner place and one other possibly ethnic place for dinner. We are very open minded and will eat just about anything good. We recently went to West side Mkt and are thinking of doing that for lunch Friday. We had the crepes last time and ,I at least, felt they were not worth the hype - any must haves there? Also
1) Lola - still worth a trip?
2) Always looking for good Italian. Chinato?
3) Would Bar Cento be a good prospect for Saturday Lunch as a break from R&R HoF? Or would that be the time to do Lola for lunch?
4)For ethnic - Vietnamese or Chinese (dim sum?)
5) Is Sokolowsis a must do Cleveland resto?
We will have a car, so we can be mobile.
Thanks

FT MYERS RECS FOR NEXT WEEK

Thanks Reverend Andy. We may WANT to drive to Naples at some point. Anything there stand out in your mind?

FT MYERS RECS FOR NEXT WEEK

I will be in the Ft Myers area March 6 -13. I am looking for Chow recommendations. Always looking for the following things...
1. Dim Sum - don't know if this part of FL even HAS good dim sum (w/ or w/o carts)?
2. Ethnic restos - Latino in particular (Mexican or Cuban)
3. One splurge resto of any type. Need to repay my hosts for their hospitality for staying with them for a week!
4. Any good Italian?
5. Is this the season for farmer's markets in this area?
6. Any food carts in this area?

We will have a week and we are open to travel. Also looking for local/regional dishes.

Any help would be appreciated.,
Thanks,
John

Mansfield, OH Saturday Night

Anyone have any recs for downtown Mansfield for Saturday Night. Is Brant's Bistro still open (and worth a trip)? I also ran across a couple others - Athens Greek Restaurant and Buckeye Tony's Restaurant (which DID look a bit scary). Any help would be appreciated.

Nashville Diner/Restaurant near Vanderbilt

Thanks for all your help. I just read the blog post at the Nashville Scene food blog. Sorry to hear that Rotier's isn't what it once was. Looks like we'll head to Arnold's. Happy eating y'all.

Nashville Diner/Restaurant near Vanderbilt

Yes, Rotier's sounds familiar. Another place I was looking into was Arnold's Country Kitchen. The location is good for my trip (going from Ohio to SE corner of Arkansas for a wedding next week end). Anyone have comments on Arnold's?

Nashville Diner/Restaurant near Vanderbilt

Several years ago we went to a great little restaurant which was located across the street from Vanderbilt University. The only things that I remember - it was open for lunch; it was fairly dark; it served southern style food. I'll be traveling through again and would appreciate it if some local chowers could help me out here. Thanks

CMH - ONE good Mexican Resto?

I must admit that I don't get out to Mexican Restaurants that much - I prefer to make it at home because it is cheaper (and dare I say, better?) than most places I have tried. I have tried all the chains: El Vaquero, Abuelo's, Mad Mex...
Last night someone suggested Mexican and we quickly ruled out El Vaquero and several others and settled on one because of its close proximity. They made their own corn and flour tortillas and the "molcajete" dishes were good but the mole was mind numbingly bad. I may be spoiled because I have had mole in Oaxaca but I don't expect that level in Columbus Ohio. The best way I can explain it is - gravy light tinged with cinnamon. And to top it all off, just as we were finishing (food still on our plates) a young boy (6 or 7?) walks behind us with his father. Just as he got behind us he spilled something all over our backs. I thought he had shook a can of soda and sprayed us, but it turns out it was... uh ...Vomit!

I am really fond of jamaica and make it often at home. I noticed it was on their menu and asked if it was house-made. The server responded that it was. I'm not saying that it wasn't but it tasted nothing like "fresh" and everything like the concentrate that you find in Mexican Markets.

It seems like restos have maybe one good dish but they are trying to do ALL Mexican rather than focus on a few well made preparations. I get bogged down on huge menus that are full of tacos, burritos etc.
Can anyone guide me to a restaurant that serves good Mexican food? I live close to many of them on Cleveland Avenue. I have not been to any on the west side for a while, so maybe there are some gems out there...

Thanks Chowhounds. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Great milk chocolate?

I really like the milk chocolate that Callebaut makes. I think I have seen it in large chunks (1# ?) at WF. (it is Belgian).

Nectar Restaurant Merida

Has anyone been to Nectar? From what I can tell it opened in 2003. I heard some great things about it. Then I heard that it was not as good as it once was. Also it seemed rather expensive ( 450 pesos per person). It seemed like they were doing some interesting interpretations of Yucutan/Mayan dishes. Any help would be appreciated.

Yucutan vacation recs

Thanks. I'm craving Marquesitas too. I haven't heard of the Pastel Imposible/Chocoflan. Sounds worth looking into. We will probably be in Merida for a weekend, so I'm looking forward to that.Hopefully the zocalo will have good food vendors and I understand there is something going on every day, not just the weekend.

Yucutan vacation recs

Yes, I agree that adding Campeche is too much. I hadn't planned on doing that. How does one inquire about good local restaurants? I thought that a fonda would indicate a stall or counter within a market area which would be a good place to get food that the locals might frequent and eat. I have found these in Puerto Vallarta and Oaxaca City and looked forward to doing the same in Cancun.
I suppose I'm not looking for memories to be made in Cancun...Perhaps in Merida. Thanks for the info.

3 huge boxes of corn flakes-what to do?

This may be too sugarry, but... When I was growing up we used to make something with cornflakes that we called peanut butter chews. Kids will love them and you will too. I will give the recipe off the top of my head

Peanut Butter Chews
combine and heat in a md saucepan
1 cup sugar
1 cup karo
2 ounces butter
stir until blended, then let come to a boil and boil for 45 seconds
ADD
1 cup peanut butter
7 cups corn flakes
Remove from heat and drop by tspful or press into a jelly roll pan for thinner bars or a 9x 13 for thicker

Also I think corn flakes make an awesome breading for chicken or fish.
Good luck!

JTM - Piment d'espelette

Thanks, the potato ideas sounds great. I sprinkled a little on some pizza the other night just to see what it was like and it seemed to have a great flavor. I thought I'd work with the cheap stuff and then break out the AOC.

Columbus, Oh - L'Antibes

Any CHers been to L'Antibes since the new owners took over? I just got back from Quebec and still have a jones for french...

JTM - Piment d'espelette

Are you still counting? What I have is the ground peppers. Any recommendations?

JTM - Piment d'espelette

I found some AOC pimente d'espelette in Quebec City and it was WAY expensive! I am ashamed to admit I paid $15 for a small jar. In Montreal I found an epicier near JTM and paid about $2 for some I found in bulk. Did I get taken?

Yucutan vacation recs

We will be in the Yucutan/Quintana Roo in January. We will be there for one week starting about 4 january. We will fly in to Cancun and wanted to take side trips to Chichen Itza and especially Merida. Would really appreciate good lunch and dinner places in Merida for good Yucutan (and Lebanese?) local specialties. In Cancun we will be in town, not in the hotel zone. Anyone have any idea if there is a mercado with good fondas downtown? Also need recs for one splurge resto. Thanks so much.

Quebec trip in September

Thanks to all that responded. We leave Friday a.m. (7 september). I have been watching the other threads and researching. Looking forward to having a great time. Wish I'd known earlier about Osheaga Fest. Went to Lollapalooza and Austin city Limits Fests last year. Both great venuea and shows. Will keep an eye out for next year's Osheaga...

Lunch resto between QC and Montreal

Looking for recommendations for a lunch place for next Monday for the trip between Quebec City and Montreal. Want something inexpensive or interesting (as long as it is good) - pretty wide palates here. We will be travelling on 40 thru Trois Rivieres.

Quebec trip in September

Oh yeah, good tip. I was also going to try to find out some web sites that might have some specific Canadian French variations and possibly some slang (just to know but probably not to use). I have gotten a lot of menus and have found some items that I had not expected such as deer meat. So much to know. I have been enjoying reading the other threads, especially the recent one on Bakeries. I hope to try some regional baked goods on this trip too. Thanks for the help.

Quebec trip in September

Thanks for the info bellywizard. You gave me a lot to work with. I have been trying to refresh my knowledge of french so that I won't have any trouble. Although, judging from making reservations, everyone is pretty english-friendly. Even though the restaurant looks cheesy and the servers are in unifrom... I will probably try Aux Anciens Canadiens.

Quebec trip in September

I am planning a trip to Quebec in September. We will stay for 3 days in Quebec City and for 5 in Montreal. In Quebec City we will be at a B&B, so breakfast (full) will be provided. So I need recs for
-- Good lunch and dinner places in Quebec City
-- Good Breakfast, lunch and dinner places in Montreal
Our B&B is 5 minutes ouside the walls of the old city in QC. I would like one nice "splurge" meal for each city.
I understand there is some good Italian to be had in Quebec. Maybe some nice regional Italian?
Always up for other ethnic cuisines too (Thai, Mexican, Indian)
I have been researching poutine and have some good places in mind for that but would appreciate any further help (Iunderstan that Au Pied du Cochon is doing a foid gras version?!)
Our hotel in Montreal is the Chateau L'Argoat on Sherbrooke (524, east)
Also, we have found it to be a good idea to do a guided tour when we first arrive in a city to get acclimated. Any recommendations for tours (I have noticed they do boat tours. Anyone have experience with these?) ?.
