Recipe for Eataly's acorn squash with lentils and cipollini onions?
I read about this dish in the latest issue of New York mag:
http://nymag.com/restaurants/features/69370/
I wanna make this so bad and searched online for a recipe with no luck.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Driving from Boston to Rockport, ME. Need roadside food recommendations.
This Thursday I am taking a 5-hour flight to Boston on Thursday and have to immediately get in my rental car and make a 3.3 hour drive up US-1 to Rockport to make an event I have to be at 5:30 p.m. While this drive won't really be leisurely we'd still love to stop somewhere relatively quickly once we get into Maine but can survive on snacks if there is somewhere better if we wait a little longer. Where should we not miss?
Other Texas friends making the same commute are going to tough it out and wait to eat at some lobster joint in Wiscasset. I doubt we can wait that long. We want something regional, preferably a favorite to locals. And something not inconvenient to our route North. And, obviously, the service can't take forever.
Anything?
Thanks in advance for your help.

DAL / DFW Best Korean (Royal/Irving)?
Soon my office will be moving from downtown Dallas to Los Colinas, minutes away from Koreatown.
The only thing that's currently making me happy about this move is that I can have bi bim bop for lunch every day if I want.
About two years ago I asked what the best Korean restaurants in that area are.
I tried two of the paces recommended (I was given a link to a GuideLive article) and they were fine. But not super fabulous. The only meat I eat is fish, so please take that into consideration. Also, are there any other yummy places to eat in that area other than Veggie Garden?
DAL DFW Need a Taco Truck vendor and Paleteria for an event.
Am co-hosting an art fundraiser in the Dallas Design District this May and we want to have a taco truck drive up, park, and sell tacos, prefferably with vegetarian options.
We also need a paleteria vendor(s) to do the same. Am guessing that part *shouldn't* be too hard since we're close to Oak Cliff.
Help!
Anyone have any scoop to share on how we might hire either of these?
DAL DFW Cuquita's Mexican food restaurant
so, yes!
it is the same restaurant that was on henderson.
DAL DFW Cuquita's Mexican food restaurant
Some of you might remember this typically delicious restaurant that was on Henderson across from the Capitol pub. Last week this banner went up on a storefront at Hampton and Kiest announcing that Cuquita's would soon be opening.
Is this the same Cuquita's???????????
(fingers crossed, fingers crossed, fingers crossed)
[DAL/DFW] Fruiteria fruit stores
L.H.
Wasn't looking for anything specific.
What impressed me the most about the place near me was the deli cases full of fresh chopped fruit I can select for fruit bowls (love the pomegranate seeds, mango, strawberry mix), fresh pressed fruit juices (carrot, apple, ginger), summery refreshment (snowcone with lemon juice and salt), whole segmented mangos on a popsicle stick. They had a myriad of other interesting concoctions I'm excited to try, or at least learn the definition of ingredients.
There's a fresh pressed juice stand I sometimes visit in the West Village. It's hip and trendy and whatever. "My" Fruiteria wouldn't be described as that, a quality I appreciate. I was a raw foodist for a long time and am looking for places I might be able to visit while running errands, etc that'll offer me snacking excitement greater than the odd Fuji apple, carrot sticks, or banana....and keep me from exclusively indulging in veggie burgers or cheese quesadillas, etc.
Make sense?
DAL / DFW Best Tuna Tartare
I am stuck in the office on a beautiful sunny Sunday and have food on the brain.
I am thinking about this amazing tuna tartare salad I would get every weekend from Stephanie's on Newberry street in Boston when I lived in the city.
Who has the best tuna tartare salad in Dallas and why?
I'm also craving shrimp tandoori and I can't find it anywhere near downtown (Roti Grill doesn't have) and I am annoyed but that's another story.
[DAL/DFW] Fruiteria fruit stores
Am looking for recommendations for fantastic fruit stores. My regular location is on Zang across from Lake Cliff park in Oak Cliff. There's juices, cool drinks, lots of fresh fruit (whole and chopped).
Where are some other cool fruiterias around Dallas?
DFW Dallas | Korean Restaurant w/ Karoke???
no!
such a bummer.
would still love to know if one exists cuz i can rally in an instant for bi bim bop and karaoke!
let me know if you find out.
DAL: Where to buy a 12-14LB Pork Shoulder With Skin On?
WOW!
You're super cool.
Thanks for the info.
Will investigate and let you know how it goes.
Anyone else have tips?
DAL: Where to buy a 12-14LB Pork Shoulder With Skin On?
I plan on making Nigella Lawson's slow roasted (24 hours) pork shoulder but have, historically, found it troublesome in locating the right cut of meat.
I had one butcher in Boston that always hooked me up.
Others thought they knew what I wanted but didn't.
I need one with the bone still in and one side that still has skin on it.
Would love to know somewhere to get this in Dallas...not too far north as I live in Oak Cliff.
Here is the recipe
http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,1977,FOOD_9936_36626,00.html
By the way, this recipe is INSANE delicious.
Totally tender and juicy.
Friends wig out when I make it.
Perfect for a "build-your-own-taco" party.
::::drooling in anticipation::::
Javier's - will i die if i eat there?
Funny that in a food-related thread, two restaurants exclusively get merited shout outs for how they mix alcohol. If there is nothing to be said about the food, do they really deserve praise?
DFW Dallas | Korean Restaurant w/ Karoke???
Wanted to throw a BIG bday party at a Korean restaurant that has karaoke.
One of those restaurants on Harry Hines.
Do any of those places have karoke?
If not, does anyone know of any cool places that have private use of karoke (close to Dallas, not Plano, or places that far outside of the city) that ALSO has good food?
Help!
Thanks.
DFW Dallas | Best Bistros
Where are they?
I'm really craving a small quaint joint along the lines of a Greenville Bar and Grill.
A place that isn't off the charts expensive.
I recently moved back to Dallas and don't know where the good bistros are.
Jazz Brunch in Dallas?
I personally don't do brunch, but if I would want to check this place out:
http://www.brooklynjazzcafe.com/
Hatties last night - fabulous!
Ohhh! Thanks for the tip! I live right by Hattie's and am crazy for Halibut. i'm going to look into this.
Korean Restaurant to check out (DAL)
That sounds so delicious right now. I'm a huge fan of (veggie/fish) Korean food. And I'm more than happy to drive for it. But, I have to say that I can't wait for that new Korean place (near Idle Rich and Tecole) to open in Uptown soon and easily get my Bi Bin Bop on for lunch.
Urban Taco
BUT!!!! Tecole scored BIG TIME by hiring former chef de cuisine at The Mansion, Ian Beach. This is a casual hip little gem with an awesome patio in the middle of uptown that puts a modern take on taco houses.
I had their special octopus taco and it was fantastically grilled, not too chewy or soft. And you have to try the Pico de Gallo! It's made with watermelon (and no tomatoes, from what I recall). And I completely agree about the Grilled Corn Elotes! I could eat those everyday!
[DFW] Best Authentic Japanese - not just sushi
Sushiyama is THE BOMB!!! The best place around. Loads of sushi chefs go here after hours and get the hook up. I used to work in a sushi bar and have friends that still do and all endorse the cult following of this place.
From CA, what to do/eat/drink in Dallas for a week
You won't want to miss going to the Halloween parade in Cedar Springs (http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/109152/).
It's a fabulous parade of drag queens and similar regalia.
If you are here before Oct 21, check out our awesome State Fair (bigtex.com).
So...
I'm not sure what kind of vibe you are looking for.
More ecletic Cali or...ahem, Dallas scene.
I prefer the former.
On that tip, here are my suggestions.
Food:
TECOLE!!!! (insanely delicous and totally unexpected menu)
Toulouse (french twist)
Celebration (by Love Field-coveted homestyle)
Hatties (neighborhoody bistro with southern flair)
Cafe Madrid (either location-spanish tapas)
Bars:
Lee Harvey's (best place in town!)
The Meridian Room (chill place across from fair park)
The Inwood Lounge (near Love Field-connected to a landmark theater)
The Old Monk (pub at its finest)
Another pretty decent site worth checking is guidelive.com.
Just a few suggestions.
I'm sure others will follow.
Hope this helps.
Lobster Rolls to go...?
Anyone know where I can pick some up today for a party I am going to?
DALLAS. Dallul Ethiopean Restaurant
I love Queen of Sheba. I just hate having to drive to Addison.
I wish it was still in Uptown. I'd eat there all the time.
DALLAS. Dallul Ethiopean Restaurant
Am thinking about having dinner with a friend there next week.
Haven't been there in years but used to go all the time.
I always enjoyed the food.
Has anyone been lately?
Still good?
Urban Taco
I found Urban Taco to be cool looking spot.
Went last Friday for lunch around 2:30.
Had the Tuna Taco (they did ask how I wanted my tuna cooked: rare),
a Red Snapper Taco, and a margarita.
Really loved the snapper. Tuna was fine, but the snapper was way better.
Hardly anyone was in there and it took forever.
Wonder how long it would take if it was a busy Friday night.
I felt that the whole thing was very overpriced.
Prolly won't be back for that reason.
Pho Pasteur (Dallas)...same as New England chain?
Read somewhere that it's the same chain as the one that's all over Boston.
Anyone know if that's true?
Curious because it was one of my favorites when we lived there.
Vosges?
I too have had the Droste pastilles from Central Market and like them.
A couple of books I've read said it's okay to get your dark chocolate snack on when it's over 70%...so that's the percentage I aim for.
Green & Black is another good brand.
I buy Dagoba quite a bit too.
