I'm hoping you can tell me where I must go in addition to where we've already booked? We are a Mum (55) and Daughter (32) looking to eat as well as we can for our modest budget of $20-$30 per lunch or dinner excluding booze and tips. We're staying in the West Village/Chelsea area and will be in town from Sept 6th - 18th. We eat just about anything though not huge fans of raw seafood. I was guttered to read that EMP are raising the price of their prix fixe lunches - so sadly that won't be on our itinerary now (as good as the food must be). We've booked lunches only at Jean George's and Del Posto. Dinner at Les Halles (I know but I'm a sucker for AB), L'Ecole at FCI and Hill Country. Will also be doing Carnegie or Katz and several 'foodie' walking tours - one in Greenwich, one Chinatown. Most of our itinerary seems to be planned from Midtown south, so looking for somewhere that will take us UWS or UES? Also any recs for good cocktail bars?
Thank you very much

Hi Hounds, Do you recommend making reservations through Open Table for EMP, Del Posto & Jean Georges? Or is it best to contact the restaurants directly? I'm planning my itinerary around the great value lunch specials served up by all 3 for our trip in September! Many thanks!

Thanks Bob Gaj & Ecustard, that gives me food for thought. I love a Riesling; probably my favourite varietal at the moment. I might reconsider the tour and look at maybe catching a train up; doesn't sound like we'd need the whole day at the festival - could end up very messy! Thanks again and I look forward to tasting some NY wines; hopefully maybe an ice wine!
Hi All, has anyone been to the Hudson Valley Food & Wine Festival? My Mum and I are vivisting New York in September and are thinking about going along with a tour company called Grape Getaways. Is it a good day out? Or would be happy for other suggestions for wine day trip from NYC? Thx in advance, Jen
Thanks for the ideas guys. We're staying with a friend of a friend on W23rd/9th. Budgeting around $30 (including tax/tip) excluding drinks; a bit more for dinner of course. Thinking about a day trip also to the Hudson Valley Food and Wine festival - has anyone been? Thx, Jen
Hi Chowhounds, I was very pleased to find this site..... My Mum and myself are visiting New York for a fortnight in September - and we can't wait!! We are staying in Chelsea and are looking for recommendations on where to eat and drink around the area. We both love a good strong cocktail and enjoy hearty brasserie style food? We're not looking to spend a fortune on every meal but would be happy to have a slurge on one or two, if you think there's a place that shouldn't be missed? I'd be very grateful for any suggestions? Thank you very much in advance!
