New Year's Eve or other Special nights no show reservations[moved from Los Angeles board]

Alright so I have a reservation for tonight at a restaurant and I am not feeling so well. If I call them they have my credit card number to hold the reservations and I have to give them a 48 hour cancellation notice. Yes I did know this ahead of time...if I call in and cancel should I be pissed off or not? They say it is due to the purchasing of the food already. Any advice?

Romantic Restaurants in the Santa Clarita Valley

I second the stay away from Le Chene...very overrated. Crap food at tremendous prices. Santa Clarita is very slim though in picking a place mostly chain restaurants. only 2 or 3 non chain. Sad I know.

Camarillo/Oxnard Area Dinner Recs

There are some great restaurants in Ventura. Jonathons, The Sidecar, 71 Palms, Brooks, C street. Ventura is finally moving up in the Foodie world according to a recent article in a Food and Wine Article.

Abode in Santa Monica

Just heard about it the other day...went to website...vary vague but intriguing. Sustainable, local and seasonal it claims. Any thoughts? If I do go any dish suggestions. So far the only restaurant around that I have found that actually honors the local, sustainable and seasonal headline is a restaurant up in Ventura. But I would love to try something close to home.

Sapphire Restaurant in Camarillo

Not too sure, unfortunatly though it is the same owners of California Grill. Hopefully they have a different Chef. Actually it would be nice if they actually have a Chef. I think I heard that it is supposed to open tomorrow (wednesday). Keep posted though

Best Japanese in Ventura, Oxnard or Camarillo?

Koi Sushi in Ventura is great...a few of the chefs actually used to work for Nobu. they do an awesome job...and probably some of the freshest fish in Ventura County for Sushi. Service and decor are also always top notch! Cant' go wrong.

Ventura

Ok so finally after much talk about Taqueria Tepatitlan I had to give it a try. Hmmm...Much dissapointment. I guess everyone built it up to be very good but nothing seemed very fresh. I also tried Tutti's for the second time...two times = way to many times to try it...terrible service mediocre food! I can handle mediocre food for good service or even just to support good owners but not here...it has neither. Stay clear!!!

BBQ Baby Octopus

Also when you braise it throw a cork in the liquid...helps make it tender as well.

"Fresh, Local" - are these buzz words or truth-in-advertising?

I recently read the article..I agree although alot of restaurants do claim that they use local and fresh. I live in Ventura and have for about 5 years now and have seen this trend starting to grow immensly. I recently also did my own little study in town...went to two restaurants downtown that claimed this very thing. One restaurant while I was having dinner..one place I had the heirloom tomato salad (these are always a bit pricey but always well worth it!) no farm name listed though..so when I saw the Chef I asked the name of the farm they came from...he said "not 100%% sure"! The other place in town I tried which I must say was probably the best meal I have ever had...let alone in Ventura...was in Midtown...all over the menu was farm names...the serving staff even new where produce was from! I also actually see the chef there shopping at the farmers market every week! When I saw him I asked what he thought about the local phenomenon...he said he thought it was great as long as people do follow it. I was very very happy..especially at his restaurant when I tried his Heirloom Tomato salad...that I knew which farm he got it from (because I saw him buying them from the guy at the market) I almost didn't have enough room for dinner it was soooo wonderful!

Recently tried Cafe Bariloche in Ventura

Not so good. I don't get it maybe I got my hopes up with what alot of people say....but then again the first thing they mention is that the food is cheap. LOL I thought they were always talking about the price not the quality of the food! What a disapointment. The decor was at least half decent except for the uncomfortable seating. Service was horrible. To bad...I thought they would have at least improved with the new location.

Ventura

So negative about Ventura it sounds...you should try some of the other great restaurants in town...not just the Mexican restaurants. There are so many other great options. Happy Dining!!!
