Orange county mobile Japanese knife sharpening? It was not, and from my memory, his website was sort of Wordpressy. His website did explain that he used whetstones exclusively and can do certain grids upon request... |

Orange county mobile Japanese knife sharpening? A while back, someone mentioned a mobile OC guy that uses whetstones to sharpen. Does anyone know of a place that does whetstone sharpening in the OC? I last had some knives sharpened at Anzen in Japantown, but I am not impressed at all by his work...My MAC & Global knives came out marginally sharper; it is a good thing I did not drop off the Konosuke. |

reasonably priced sushi to impress the out-of-towners Respectfully disagree on Hamamori. he place is more gimmickery than substance. Yes, hey serve large live santa barbara spot prawns, but the fish is not top notch. The more important measure though, is he lack of finesse in the fish cuts. The most important tell tale of a sushi place not being true to its roots: the presence of the california roll on the menu. Sushi Wasabi used to be the best choice in Orange County, but there are so many better ones now- Give Ohshima or Nana San (ankimo is the best in all of southern cal) a try. ----- Hamamori |

Where to buy rock shrimp in OC or LA? I've been looking to buy some rock shrimp to cook up as the texture of that stuff is amazing compared to regular shrimp. Has anyone seen any? I've seen it once in a while at Bear Flag Fish Company in Newport but the quality isn't that great there on this stuff... |

Playa Del Carmen- Restaurant Recos? Paella @ Oasis |

French influence? [moved from Mexico] you know what's weird though? I stumbled onto what appeared to be a small carnival in downtown playa and in addition to the regular elotes and churros being sold, there were quite a few push carts selling crepes! |

I tried a restaurant that I found on Trip advisor - La Palaba Belga - french food mixed in with a local accent - try it - the prices are very reasonable. |

Recs for Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and Cancun I recently found a taco stand named Taqueria Honorio in Tulum that serves EXCELLENT tacos de lechon. To find it, go down 307 towards Tulum from Playa. You'll pass an intersection where you can make a right to go to Coba. a few blocks down, you'll see a Swiss bank on the left hand side, on the other corner on the left side at that intersection is this taco stand. I also had the opportunity to have cochinita pibil tacos at Taqueria Tony's, which is recommended by Veggo, They were good, but I think the cochinita at the Honorio is slightly better. Pic of Taqueria Tony's tacos - (sorry, I dug into it too fast) Pic of Taqueria Honorio - |

Playa Del Carmen- Restaurant Recos? La Bamba Jarocha is on the north east corner of 30th & 34th. Someone told me to go to that corner, and gave me the wrong restaurant name, but later made the connection. I was recommended their aguachile - which I will try tomorrow. Had Oasis's aguachile today - and thought it was good, but not great (and yes, Oasis is open in PDC). |

In terms of best food for dinner (without any other factor like drinks/view) - Saphire would get my vote. |

Where to buy great Serrano in Orange County? Been looking for a store to buy Serrano and also Iberico in Orange County. I've been to La Espanola, and when lazy, just go to Bristol Farms. Any other places? |
