UES 2nd Ave Deli?
The first new Second Avenue Deli is not on Second Avenue, but rather off Third Avenue, on 33rd Street. The second Second Avenue Deli is similarly misnamed, because it’s going to be on First Avenue, at 75th Street. (Though, if you average them, you get Second Avenue.)
Jeremy Lebewohl confirmed that his family was in advanced discussions to buy 1442 First Avenue, the current location of the Wicked Wolf bar, and to replace the space with another Second Avenue Deli. The owners are retiring, said Mr. Lebewohl, the nephew of Abe Lebewohl, the famed owner of the original deli, whose murder is still an unsolved mystery.
The discussions are advanced enough that Mr. Lebewohl went before the community board to apply for a transfer of the liquor license.
He declined to name a price for the property, as the deal isn’t signed yet.
In the ideal world, he said, the deli would be open before the Jewish High Holy Days in September. However, he warned, “With all my experience with construction, there are unforeseen problems.”
