Saturday Breakfast Ferry Building Market

Well, I tend to have a 4505 Meats breakfast, but it depends upon whether you want eggs or are comfortable with burgers and the like in the morning.

St. Vincent [San Francisco]

I ate there tonight. Very big thumbs up on the wine list (obviously) but also the marrow, lamb, pork trotter and urchin. Excellent service as well.

Top 10 Must-visit SF Eateries - The Budget Version

I have liked everything I have had fro them. The pomme is wonderful, though my favorite for regular consumption is the plain croissant. My daughter loves the lemon ricotta poptart.

Burgers and coffee, that's elf food, apparently -- your thoughts solicited

My favorite SF burger is at Nopa. Second probably Slow Club, though the 4505 burger mentioned by many others is great, if fry-less.

most interesting selections of wines by the glass?

If you read further down the list, they also do a feature on a region or winery and it is almost always something that appeals to me. Right now it is: Mas de Daumas Gassac with three btg options.

most interesting selections of wines by the glass?

Are you looking for wine bars or restaurants or both?
Not a new contender, but Barbacco should be on a by the glass list. Do you want large lists or just interesting? Nopa's btg list, for example, is not huge but often has appealing options.

Best places to take a 7 year old

My now 9 year-old loves both Bi-Rite and Mr and Mrs Miscellaneous. She's not a sushi fan, but loves Piccino for pizza and the Saturday market at the Ferry Building. Also, what about dim sum, especially if he is adventurous?

Day Trip to San Fran - tell me your Must-Trys!

Probably piling on, but don't waste your time on Cha Cha Cha. I'd tend to do a Ferry Building, Hayes Valley and Mission focus, but a lot depends upon what your must see tourist destinations are.

Pastores Vacation

I also live very nearby and the last 5 times I've tried to go for lunch, they have been closed. It has reached the point where my friends joke about the always closed restaurant.

Is it better to make it from scratch or buy it?

I read the book and even wrote a blog post on it. Her writing is pretty engaging so I think it is worth a read. In my case, I found I agreed with a lot of her suggestions, I do tend to make a lot of things from scratch though, including jams and pickles and all sorts of baked goods, so have a well stocked pantry.

American Eatery at SF's Ferry Building

I was very happy with my meatball sandwich. I planned on taking it home to eat so they suggested they pack it deconstructed: meatballs and cheese in one container and greens in another with the roll separate. It was all very good and I really appreciated their willingness to accommodate my concern about sogginess.

Weekend in Sonoma with a Little Kid

Winery wise: Quivira. They have chickens and pigs and a large garden that kids (and adults) can explore.

In search of exceptional cinnamon rolls

How about Devil's Teeth? Far from downtown but excellent cinnamon rolls.

Birthday Pressure: Round Table for 8-10, not Chinese.

Coco500 has a full bar and large round tables. I had a great birthday dinner there several years back.

Napa Valley Vineyards. What vineyards would recommend for a 2 day tour through Napa Valley?

Better to start with: are there specific wines or styles you do like?

Napa Wineries to Visit In January

Since you like cabs, I'd recommend Corison. Great cabs and truly lovely people.

Best ice cream 2011

Just a note that pumpkin is back at Mitchell's.

Quintessential CA restaurant for an early dinner with kids after a Sunday Marathon?

I've also been to Nopa with kids and it was fine. They even made a plain pizza for my daughter. But, I'd go on the early side of things. I have found that at 5:30 or 6 there are often kids even in places I would not suspect.

What's your favorite pork chop in San Francisco?

4th on Nopa.

Boxing Room, Hayes Valley

People that I trust have really liked this place but I did not. It was good, but not as good as I had hoped. The fried chicken was average. The gumbo was very much the highlight.

Sunday Brunch at a place that takes reservations

My top two make-a-reservation- brunch spots lately have been Nopa and Prospect. Both serve cocktails and don't have buffets. From downtown, Prospect is more convenient.

New on Upper Market: Pastry Cupboard and Fried Chicken Pop-up at Rebel

I went to the brunch pop-up and was disappointed. The sopapillas with bacon honey were wonderful, perfectly fried and not oily. But the shrimp and grits featured small fried shrimp served with an under seasoned and very dry corn and grits mixture that was just not that good. The bite of chicken sandwich i had was better, but also not great. Service was great and eager to please.

Can't-miss places in Noe, if any? New to the neighborhood.

My favorite flavor there is the pumpkin, but it is not available year round. My 9-year-old liked the oreo cookie.

Blue Plate?

I liked my meal at Blue Plate quite a bit and have been meaning to go back. Nothing earth-shattering, but well prepared and the menu had something for everyone in my diverse group.

Does any one know the restaurant I am thinking of?

I would have said Nopa as well. Long bar and great burger.

Top 5 Bay Area Sandwiches?

They change their sandwiches daily, though there are some repeats. i did not try today's porchetta, but everything I have had there has been great.

Plow in Potrero?

Plow has been my favorite breakfast place for a while now. We go for weekday breakfast to avoid the weekend crowds. The potatoes are very special as are all of the baked goods.

Upscale Kid-Friendly Restaurant in SF?

It may not be upscale enough for your friends, but Nopa is great for kids.

Navarro Vineyards Gewurztraminer Grape Juice found Cowgirl Creamery Cantina, Pt Reyes Station

Yes, really excellent. It would be a great gift.
