Good but cheap - near the Philly Marriott

I would go to Ava. It is Italian and it is on 3rd Street - not too far of a walk, or a short cab ride, from the Marriot. It is probably around $25-30 a person, and it is BYOB so the alcohol doesn't play a factor in the price. Good food - let us know where you wind up...

Short Ribs Philly area

I had short-rib ravioli at Ava. They were so good. They were a special, so I am not sure if they still have them, but if they do, by all means get them.

BYOB for 40th B-Day about 12-15 people!

Please tell us about your "long" debate. It just seems curious since you have long in quotes...I would love to hear the thought process that went into the decision making.

Rabbit in Philly

Ava serves pappardelle pasta with a rabbit ragu. One of the best pasta dishes I have had in the city hands down.

Best Sunday brunch in Philadelphia?

Ava is also open for brunch and I have to say that their Croque Madame could be the best brunch dish in the city hands down. Fitzwater Cafe is not too bad either.

i want a tomato/moz sandwich on superbly crusty bread!

Please let us know how the cheese-making comes out. I tried a few times with no success, so I am curious. Good luck!

Need Sunday Brunch Idea for this Sunday

I know that Ava is near Queen Village and they started brunch on Sundays about 2 months ago. I went twice so far and was happy both times. Nothing too fancy, but just good basic brunch items. Their croque madame is outstanding...

Philly BYOB Suitable For a Party of 13?

I think Ava could handle your party. I have been there with a large party and size was no problem. The food is great and the service handled our party with no problem.

Radicchio

I had a good experience at Ava and they do take reservations. I know with the summer being here, tables may be a bit easier to get on the weekend now because everyone goes to the shore.

Anyway, I was very impressed with the food and service at Ava.

South Street * Days of Eats (AVA RESTAURANT REVIEW)

Sorry to hear the experience last night was so terrible! I came in with a party of four on the opening night of eight days of eats, and my dinner was the exact opposite of yours. Our waiter was excellent--punctual, attentive, and informative, while giving us space to enjoy the meals. In my opinion, Ava is an underated restaurant! The food is superb--I ordered the arugala salad, pesto pasta dish, and veal scallopini and was amazed by the taste. In comparison to Buca, Bistro Romano, and other philly Italian "hot spots", I could literally taste the attention that was given to each dish. Awesome! The trattoria style ambience does create a little noise, but the overall atmosphere is romantic, quaint, and lowkey. I live nearby, and I will definitely be frequenting this restaurant on a regular basis!
