Wish = Wonderful

We were there a couple of months back and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very nicely prepared meals, however I do agree they were a little small for the price. Thanks for the reminder!

SOUP

I'm in agreement. The food there is pretty mediocre and the onion soup is nothing to write home about. But in that neighbourhood, Bibiche down the street has an absolutely wonderful French onion soup...mmmm.

Bonjour Brioche - insanity!

...and the place is still packed! Obviously, they're getting the message.

Horrible Rip Off at Corner House! [moved from Ontario board]

This certainly is a very lively thread!
I have no problem with a restaurant adding a charge if you request to have a dish split. Personally I have never requested this, but have opted for an extra plate, should we wish to share a couple dishes.
However, being charged for hot water is a bit tacky. When we take my elderly mother out she always asks for hot water at the start of the meal. Some places have added a slice of lemon without us asking, and we have never been charged.
I guess some restaurants figure they can get away with this, and probably will, should people not speak up.

El Sol in east end

Pretty good Mexican food. But beware - the service is atrociously slow. Two visits and we gave up after the second one.

Beer Bistro - tips and suggestions please

A group of us tried it once this summer and I just don't get what all the fuss is about. There is a great selection of beers, most of which are way overpriced. The food is okay but they should stick to the simple pub stuff. It's the kind of place that represents itself as upscale but I've had better grub and cheaper beer in some pubs. But it's great for people watching if that's what you're into.

Toronto Entertainment book-takeout?

It probably depends on the place but I think most of the upscale places may insist you dine in. The idea behind these coupons is to get people into places and hopefully they'll return. I suggest you give individual establishments a call to see what policy they have about takeout.

3's Company Cafe moving

The original place at the Lamb location was called Levity Cafe. The current owners changed the name when they took over the business a number of years ago.

Vi Vetha or Balsam in the Beach for a birthday dinner

Agreed on ViVetha. Great food and as others have said, terrific service. My experience at Balsam was fine but not terribly interesting.

Dine.To [moved from Ontario board]

I'm in complete agrreement with kawarthagirl and pescatarian. You will notice on Dine.To that only places with a logo to the left have reviews. These are the restaurants that are paying for the full package and are actually getting reviewed. The other restaurant listings appear to be free listings and therefore, don't merit any reviews.

This reminds me of a local Danforth community paper that asks restaurants to contact them to be reviewed and in return, they'll get a deal on the advertising rates for a specific period. Guess how many got negative notices?

One Star for One

I agree that the customer should not have to call and the onus is on the restaurant to do so. However, I started doing this a number of years ago as a result of two occasions where bookings I made were somehow lost.

One Star for One

The difference being that hotels and airlines have your credit card number and can charge accordingly should you not show up. Personally, I have always made it a habit to re-confirm my reservations with restaurants. Let's be honest - there are people who will book tables and then not show up. This is just as inconsiderate as restaurants who 'lose' reservations and/or allow incompetent employees to do this task.

southern cuisine in the Toronto Area?

I would take a pass on Big Daddy's. Too much like a chain-style place for my liking.

Southern Accent is very good. I fourth it!

The problem with George....

I have only dined at George once and although I thought the food to be good, like many other high end establishments, the service bordered on being aloof and snotty.

This is a rather unfortunate experience and the mangement should be contacted and made aware of your experience. I also believe one should express disatisfaction at the time of one's visit. However, I think it also important that the public take some responsibility when a foreshadowing is hinted at. I for one would have refused to sit on the patio when I had no desire to do so and if they had insisted, take my business elsewhere. One should never allow themselves to be 'bullied' into ordering selections that they are not comfortable with. One final thought - terrible service can be found in many establishments but a place of this calibre should have no excuses.

Can I buy Honey Mussels in TO?

You may wish to check out the following link where Honey Mussels are advertised. I'm not sure if they sell to the public as well as restaurants, but there is a Toronto contact phone number. Good luck!

Three's Company has Moved

It's Three's Company that moved to that spot, not Ten Feet Tall. I believe they bought her existing business.

Quick...need a romantic Danforth resto

Perhaps someone who has recently visited Lolita's Lust could comment on their experience. A passage of 4 years may not reflect it's current standards. I am also quite curious to try it myself having just spotted it.

qssis banquet hall

We attended a wedding there this past June at the Kingston Road location.

I'm afraid the food was mediocre at best. Standard antipasto, salad, chicken and beef were served. The salad dressing was very salty. The chicken was okay. The beef was blah.

I don't know what other menu choices are available for functions but if what we had was any indication, I can't see them doing anything requiring great creativity. The bottom line - typical banquet hall fare.

However, the staff were very nice and we did have a good time after the meal. A case of good wine and good company made us forget the dinner.

Real French bistro

Le Paradis...

I've noticed it's been knocked quite a few times on this board but it does remind me of a Parisian style bistro - the service can be a trifle surly. However, the product is fairly good and the pricing very reasonable.

Le Select...

I liked it better 20-odd years ago in it's more traditional approach to classic french fare. As one poster has noted, it does lack some soul.

Gamelle...

Good food but not terribly interesting ambience which seems to be the one of the poster's prerequisites.

Savoy Bistro...

Truly a favourite!

Food at Didier....or ?

I must agree on this one.

The food wasn't really bad just pretty pedestrian. HOWEVER, the service was atrocious. Perhaps it was just a case of getting the machinery oiled. We haven't been recently and one certainly hopes it has improved.

Perhaps Didier is in need of a sabatical. One would expect more from his kitchen.

Morton's or Harbour Sixty

Can't comment on Morton's but we've been to H60 on three occasions.

I've always found H60 to be very consistent in their preparation of steaks and pretty good in the fish area. On the last visit we had the Rib Eye and the Black Cod. The beef was cooked perfectly to the requested medium rare. The fish was cooked just a little bit more than we prefer but not over so. No question as to them being a little thieving in the price department but I find most steak houses are.

The service is excellent.

taste of the danforth

Couldn't agree more with embee. Head to this area when it's civilized and you can get a real sense of what the eateries are all about. Huge crowds, inflated prices and assembly line food is not a true reflection of what many Greektown restaurants offer.
