Try AnchorBar in Hamilton

You find it costly for $9.00 for 8 wings?!? Well wait till you learn the real price is $12 for 8, $23 for 16, and $42 for 30! That's right off their new Canadian website, www.anchorbar.ca

Best Hot And Sour Soup 2013

I have to say that the hot and sour soup at Peking Express on Parliament is insanely good. You wouldn't think it would be, but then it is!

Five Guys now open at Yonge and Dundas

No one's forcing you to finish the whole order of fries. And okay, you want a treat now and then, but don't complain your "treat" is high in calories. Five Guys is not health food and doesn't hold itself out as being such.

Five Guys now open at Yonge and Dundas

I'm sorry, but no one who is truly calorie conscious is going to McDonalds or Five Guys. Don't bitch about not having half-sizes or that their fries add too many calories. If you're worried about calories, here's an idea: don't eat cheeseburgers! Don't eat fast food, period!

New Five Guys Burgers Location coming soon!

It took forever, but it looks like the Five Guys at Yonge and Dundas is days away from opening.

Nathans Hot Dogs

I apologize if this is old news, but I was excited to see packages of Nathan's jumbo and regular size dogs at the Bloor Street Market (part of Loblaws).

Detroit style Coney Island hot dog in GTA

To your original question as to whether the Coney Dog is on Food Cabbie's permanent menu, the answer is yes. He does have a rotating menu as well, but both the Coney and the Chicago Dogs are permanent.

BTW, don't ever make the mistake of buying the Coney Island [meatless] chili in a can that's ubiquitious at Detroit-area supermarkets... I tried to make my own Coneys at home, but that canned chili is pretty bad.

Detroit style Coney Island hot dog in GTA

Food Cabbie does a jumbo version... It is pretty close: beanless chili, mustard, onions, and a weiner that snaps.

AYCE Sushi on Yonge St between Dundas and Bloor

Spring Sushi is getting surprisingly good feedback. Or at least their Hamilton location is.

Openings 2012 (Toronto)

It was supposed to be mid-July, according to this: http://www.postcity.com/Eat-Shop-Do/E...

According to the Five Guys website, it will in fact be 329 Yonge. But a quick peer in window suggests it's nowhere near being ready. Fall, maybe?

"East Coast" Style Donairs in Toronto?

Sounds like if Halifax Donair and Fuzzbox collaborated, between the two of them they might be able to get it right. HD the spit and texture, Fuzzbox the spice and sauce.

Krispy Kreme on McCaul

I take it it's going to be another Krispy Kreme Cafe like the one on Harbord. In other words, no freshly-baked donuts (shipped from Mississauga)

I've read that they take your food and reheat it in a microwave... is this always the case?

Burger's Priest vs. Holy Chuck vs. Stockyards

OTFOODIE, are you aware of a place called No Bull Burger on Parliament at Queen? It uses real, unprocessed cheddar on its burgers.

Fuzz Box: East Coast donair in Toronto

Going on a road trip this coming weekend, and plan to hit both Pizza Delight and Greco Express (yes, they exist in Ontario!).... hopefully, one or the other will erase the disappointment of Fuzz Box

Burger's Priest vs. Holy Chuck vs. Stockyards

Read this thread and this one http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/834373 as well, and you'll see you're very much in the minority. Yes, BP still edges HC out, but considering how much easier HC is to deal with (I've not heard of your problems with the owner before), I think a lot of people are willing to forgo BP for HC.

To me, the difference in quality was negligible, with HC's burger being easier to acquire/consume.

Burger's Priest vs. Holy Chuck vs. Stockyards

I was really skeptical about Holy Chuck, just cause I hate their logo so much.... I know, that makes no sense. But after trying them tonight -- and keep in mind, I was one of Burgers Priest's biggest champions -- there is no doubt in my mind Holy Chuck has the best burger. It's the same style -- loosely packed meat, high quality, juicy (greasy) meat, but the major difference is that the burger stays together!!! Just a beautiful, BEAUTIFUL specimen of a burger. Can't wait to go back!

Fuzz Box: East Coast donair in Toronto

As was said in previous posts, any Maritimer (like myself) will definitely notice the donair meat is not right--crumbly, very different taste and texture. Sauce was pretty dead-on, though.

I haven't tried Halifax Donair in Milton, but in terms of the 416, this is as close as you're going to get to authentic east-coast donair, for now.

Como en Casa - New Mexican Joint on Yonge

Ok, I'll just go ahead and answer my own question...

Went today at lunch. The place is nice and clean. They claim to be about "fresh" and "authentic" Mexican food. Everything was certainly fresh and nice looking -- I can't speak to authenticity (though they don't put cheese on their tacos or burritos).

The guac was really good and they make their own chips on site, which is always nice. The pork burrito I tried was certainly filling and looked nice, but came off as bland. They had dessert empanadas for dessert which were incredible.

I'll be interested to know how this place fares. I think it definitely has potential.

Como en Casa - New Mexican Joint on Yonge

There's a new Mexican joint at 565 Yonge Street called Como en Casa. Just wondering if anyone's been and what the verdict is. When I passed, it seemed fairly busy. It features "authentic Mexican stews", brochetas, in addition to burritos, tacos, etc.

Here's the Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/comoencasator...

Lunch / Take-out near Eaton Centre...anything worth having?

In the same vein as Chipotle, Panera Bread at the corner of Yonge and Edward Streets is one of the better chains going.

Food Cabbie...the BIG KAHUNA

You should have mentioned that the Big Kahuna is only available once-a-week as a special... not on the regular menu.

For those that don't know, Food Cabbie is a food truck parked in a parking lot on Queen near Jarvis. It's open 8-5, Monday to Friday.

It can get pretty nuts at lunch; went yesterday, and it was a 20 minute wait. Some of the menu items are hit and miss. Though when it's a hit, it can be a homerun!

A TV crew from Global was interviewing Spiro yesterday...not sure if it has aired yet or not.

Brick Street Bakery Refuses to Slice Bread!?!?

I called around to other locations, and they claimed they don't have bread slicers at all. Which is even crazier! If you sell bread you should be able to slice it! Imagine if Starbucks didn't grind its own beans!

Brick Street Bakery Refuses to Slice Bread!?!?

I was in Brick Street today, and a woman buying a loaf of bread asked to have it sliced. First the attendant informed her that they don't slice bread. The woman pointed to a bread slicer, but was told that it's only for sandwiches. She asked why she couldn't just get her bread sliced and she was informed, "Our bread is organic, so if we sliced it, it would dry out".

The woman seemed fine assuming that risk but the attendant steadfastly refused to slice the bread then ignored her and went on to the next customer.

I thought this was odd... has anyone ever experienced this before?
