Whole Foods Market coming to Marlboro???

Livotti's is across the street. I haven't checked that out yet, but I did do the Whole Foods.

Big Green Egg? Is it worth it?

Is it really as awesome as it gets hyped? I'm looking to upgrade from a standard cheap charcoal grill.

Parsnips - what do do with them?

Tonight I made roasted parsnips with chopped bacon and balsamic vinegar. Super easy. Cut the parsnips into sticks, dice up a few slices of bacon, add some black pepper to taste and roast at 400 degrees for about a half hour. I finished it off by tossing it with a dash of aged balsamic vinegar.

Can we talk about canned salmon?

Not a fan of any of those RR's personally. Well, roadrunners are pretty innocuous. Although, my one friend has one terrorizing his chickens lately. We didn't even know they messed with chickens until roid rage road runner showed up in his yard a couple weeks ago.

Walking out on a restaurant meal

Agreed. And it's one thing to ask to be reseated, but not to ask other people to be reseated.

Grass-fed dairy in Albuquerque Metro Area?

I would say their spoilage issues go beyond not being ultra-pastuerized and into the realm of mishandling somewhere along the way.

Grass-fed dairy in Albuquerque Metro Area?

I worked at the co-op in Las Cruces. I wouldn't drink Rasband. We've heard about some questionable practices with them and their products also spoiled before the sell-by date very regularly. I don't think they have much in the way of quality control. We stopped carrying them and only special order it for customers who want it.

Servers and bartenders that smoke

Why would body piercings or tattoos bother you? Personally, I don't understand how that can possibly bother somebody. No different than a hairstyle or clothing.

Servers and bartenders that smoke

Are you talking about a certain Irish pub in Madison, NJ? Because I've seen people loudly complain about lingering smoke in the carpets and smoking staff there. I've regarded them as insane.

An hypothetical: tipping( again)

New Jersey is one of the most expensive states in the country and servers are routinely paid the typical $2.15/hr + tips.

Tipping below 15% is cheap and tacky, unless service is dismal. I generally tip 20%

Funniest thing you seen in a restaurant?

This one didn't actually occur inside a Chinese restaurant, but I was attempting to order Chinese food for delivery at a theatre company I worked for. Now mind you their staff had very limited English, but we ordered from them enough that they knew the security code for backstage. I was having an extremely difficult time explaining this to what I guess was a new employee and then she goes, "We not theatre, we Chinese store!" and hung up.

I just stood there dumbfounded in the stage management office, then looked at my hysterically laughing coworker and said, "Let's just get some pizza for the crew tonight."

Do you have any food "rituals"?

I've got a patterdale/poodle mix that I'm pretty sure is completely constructed of cast iron internally. I've seen her eat things that would take down dogs six times her size.

Ha! I had a Border Collie that did that, too. He was OCD as hell. Loved that bastard.

Do you have any food "rituals"?

I eat the white first, then I dip my toast into the runny yolk. Then, the use the last bit of toast to soak up the escaped runny yolk, put the bit of hardened yolk that's always left on top of that and breakfast is over.

I do that with apples and pears...and my weirdo dog watches me the whole time...then she eats the rest. She also thinks carrots and cat shit are the best things on earth, but she avoids eating her dog food, until she's starving. I took an excellent picture of her for dog-shaming.com today.

Why do foodies like the McD's Filet o' Fish?

We have them in NM, but they're based out of TX. I prefer the NM chain Blake's Lottaburger. A nice green chile cheeseburger...mmm...

When do you tip low (10% or less)

I had my friend visiting NM from England recently for two weeks, and we ate lunch at one restaurant frequently, because he fell in love with it. The waitress gushed over his accent every time. When he complimented her's, she was just like, "I just have this borin' ol' West Texas one."

storing celery?

Yep, it's totally brilliant. I'd rather buy a whole head than pay $6/lb for it. Plus it keeps a long time if wrapped up in foil.

Cooked salmon is fine for dogs. You just have to worry about it raw.

At what age should you let a child handle a kitchen knife to help with food prep? [moved from Home Cooking]]

I would have deferred to the SIL. My dad taught me how to clean a fish around seven or so. He gave me my first knife to run around in the woods with and take fishing when I was about 10.

And it's not like this was way back in the day. I'm 29 and we lived in New Jersey. I was just raised free-range and it worked out. Kids are too coddled now, I think.

How long can I keep Hatch Chiles without roasting?

Should last a couple weeks in the fridge. They'll probably get kind of wrinkly, though.

How do you define trashy?

Tonight, I got home from work and I scarfed down cold leftover mac & cheese from a box.

Meanwhile, earlier today, I made some awesome chicken stock, that I let simmer overnight and reduced this morning.

It's kind of funny, because my friends view me as the big foodie/chef of the group, but for all the meals they don't see/hear about, I'm just as likely to be eating some random item, because I'm in a hurry.

Is There a Difference between Tamale Sauce and Enchilada Sauce?

And now I need to go to Chopes to try their tamales to compare the sauce to the enchiladas...not that I really need an excuse. It's a fun ride down Rt. 28 on my Vespa.
