Food Good's Profile
Lunch or dinner in Miracle Mile or Park La Brea
Lunch: Black Dog Coffee on Wilshire. Susina on Beverly. Dinner: Ca Brea on LaBrea.
Better burger in my opinion is Golden State Cafe on Fairfax and they have beer.
Joan's on Third is good for lunch too, on 3rd St.

I'm guessing Susina will not have by the slice - but ask them for similar cake like Bear.

NY Style Chinese food in LA?
Fly to SF. But if you can't do that, try Twin Dragon on Pico. Depends on the dish though.
Kung Pao Bistro on Santa Monica has Studio City style won ton soup that although isn't NY style, might be a variation that might work for you. Sam Woo BBQ in Valley has good wonton soup.
If you find a couple of dishes that are close, you can try mixing them together. Only way I've been able to come close to fried rice out here.
Or get someone to pack some NYC on dry ice for you.
desserts---what is your favorite dessert around los angeles?!
Susina at Beverly and LaBrea and Huckleberry on Wilshire in SM.
Bologna on a Sunday eve - looking for great food, casual dress
Thanks. Anyone else have suggestions?
Il Ridotto: The Best Place to Eat in Venice
Embarrassed to say I can't find the place on the map they have on the website - Can anyone describe where it is.
Bologna on a Sunday eve - looking for great food, casual dress
Looking for a great meal on a Sunday eve. Looking for the best meal we can have with casual clothes.
In Bologna (or open to getting off the train on the way from Venice for stellar meal).
We will be there in Sep.
Any good Italian or French Restaurants in LA area?
Girasole in Larchmont is fantastic (owners are from Bologna).

where to go for macaroons ?
Susina Bakery on Beverly has unbelievable chocolate dipped coconut macaroons.
Hollywood Bowl...eat there? or bring your own?
There was some pretty good vendors there, Patina group had a stall last time I was there, but bringing your own picnic is pretty fun. You can get places to pack ones for you. Not sure what area you are coming from but places like Joan's on Third, M Cafe, or Susina have to-go options. Susina has a picnic box for the bowl, you just have to call a day or so in advance 323-934-7900.
Bring your own wine or beer - that's expensive there.
Italian bakeries in southern california?
Well, Susina will have some of what your looking for. Great Italian cookies and specialties like St Honore cake.
The owner is from NJ - so not quite NY...:)
7122 Beverly Blvd
Which bakery for cakes do you suggest: Porto's in Glendale or Burbank?
Burbank - parking tips the scales.
Best Chocolate cake in LA anyone?
Chocolate Bear Cake at Susina (Beverly and LaBrea Blvds). Amazing devil's food cake with light mouse and cream layers instead of sugary butter cream. O M G!
Mozza pizzaria or osteria?
For a casual birthday group, I'd say pizzeria. If it were a birthday date I'd go with osteria.
The food experience was a notch better at osteria, but I had a great meal and a relaxed time with 4 at the pizzeria.
You can often walk into the osteria right when they open and get seated at the cheese bar - also a reason to go with 2 and not a group.
Do any stores carry tomato paste in a tube?
Joan's on Third, and probably Surfas. William Sonoma carries it.
Doughboys at the El Rey?!
Dear Doughboys,
Please keep quality control to its highest. I stopped going on 3rd, I'm iffy about the Hollywood one. Please please please make this one work its best. The neighborhood could use you, please don't fail us.
Kosher Cookies? Passover Dessert?
Susina has many special for Passover goodies - like chocolate dipped macaroons and hazelnut chocolate flourless cakes, however they are not kosher.
Breakfast pastry along morning commute -- Silver Lake to Santa Monica?
Susina is just west of La Brea on Beverly.
La Brea Bakery.
Maison du Pain? on Pico 1/2 mile west of LaBrea.
If you change your route a bit, Clementine on Santa Monica in Century City.
Whole Foods has good stuff for morning, cinnamon buns and the like.
i hate to ask for recommendations but im a bit lost (nyc hound)
HATFIELDS is intimate, Grace is loud. I liked Grace, but the best meal I've had in LA is at Hatfields. Bouley was the best I've ever had, Hatfields was pretty close but much more relaxed vibe about the place.
Angelini is good, but I don't think it's a must.
I'm a NY transplant, so take it from me, if you love the Chinese food in NY, skip the Chinese food here, and eat all the Sushi you can.
If you are in the Melrose Ave, check out Azami.
Porto's Bakery - what kicks ass?
Cheese rolls, cheese rolls, cheese rolls, cheese rolls, cheese rolls, cheese rolls, cheese rolls, cheese rolls, cheese rolls, cheese rolls, cheese rolls, cheese rolls, cheese rolls, cheese rolls, cheese rolls, cheese rolls, cheese rolls.

Melrose: Antonio's, Azami, M Chaya, Pink's.
Nearby: Susina on Beverly, Joan's on Third, Kung Pao Bistro on Santa Monica. Farmer's Market at Third and Fairfax.
Griddle Cafe Suggestions
Well this is already past the date, but I had to comment, because nobody mentioned the best frickin thing ever for breakfast anywhere in LA:
POACHED Y PAPAS!!! Eggs Benedict on fried potato skins with a slab of grilled ham.
Light, Fruit or Chocolate European-style Tortes?
Susina on Beverly (near LaBrea) uses mouses and creams, instead of butter creams. They have really good fresh fruit. Their stuff is all European style with a couple of American treats to keep everyone happy.
The Berry Blossom cake probably would fit you best. And they have lovely fruit tarts.
