sounds great thanks! Is the catfish fried at Comfort? I'm almost always afraid to try catfish because of the fishy taste...

I looove the sweetbreads at Mama Zu's and crab spaghetti at Edo's. :)

Sounds great! I've actually never been to the Black Sheep nor have I had biscuits and gravy for breakfast so that really is a great idea, thanks! I do get the Devil's Mess at Millie's and might need to again before I leave!

Hi 'hounds! I am moving out of Richmond, VA and would like to ask if you have any favorite dishes (at your favorite restaurants) that I should try before leaving. I am moving to NYC so I guess you can say that I am pretty much covered on Asian foods (although I must say that I have not found a better pho place in NY better than Pho So 1). I have lived here for three years and have loved Edo's, Mama Zu's, Comfort, Six Burner and Comfort.

Any recs would be greatly appreciated! I have 25 more days! Thank you very much, Richmond!

Falafel - Richmond, VA

I also have to suggest going to the Meditteranean Market on Quiocassin. Their tzatziki sauce is too good to pass up! While you're at it you can also get their beef and feta fatayer! Generally, their fatayers are fantastic. I always buymore than I can eat when I go there!

Bakeries in Miami (NMiami/NMB/Aventura)

Hello 'Hounds! I basically grew up in So FL and moved to VA just a few years ago - (shortly after College) and was wondering if there are any "good" bakeries around (N Miami/N Miami Bch/Aventura/Sunny Isles down to Surfside)? Part of my teenage years were spent getting cookies, bread, fruit tart from La Baguette on Biscayne Blvd with my grandmother. I especially miss those heart shaped cakes (they may be financiers, I dont know) and the almond cookies. I was also at the old Renaissance Bakery location (maybe 3 or 4 yrs ago) and was there rather early and kinda waited, only to find out that their store front was no longer there. I also like the Argentinian Bakery on Collins and 69th??

I've tried Paul's and liked a few things but I really miss the times when things weren't so commercialized!

Any good suggestions? I will be home for a good amount of time this month and I'm feeling quite nostalgic!

ALSO, is that family owned Haitian store still open on W Dixie Hwy? I loved their bread as well!

Thank you!!

City Eating in Richmond?

I'm still also a newbie to Richmond, but not really... So far, I have thoroughly enjoyed my meals at Edo's Squid, Millie's Diner and White Dog. I also think that Thai Diner is the best Thai Restaurant in town, they have a Broad St location as well as a loc in Carytown. I used to go to Jumpin J's in Churchill for brunch and music on Sunday mornings but unfortunately the place closed down. I have had the best brunch there and they put this balsamic vinegar reduction on pretty much anything and everything they make.
The osso bucco and sweetbreads at Mama Zu's are worth the wait. Oh and their pasta in gorgonzola sauce for lunch is pretty fantastic!
As far as breads and pastries are concerned, I'm still searching for a bagel place and a good loaf of sourdough bread....

Moving to the East Village

yes 14th Street! I also wanted to tell you that we went to Oh! Taisho, Pinkberry (like 3x last weekend), Katz's and Beard Papa from your recs. I really wanted to go to Momofuku Ko but we also had to squeeze in some places in Chinatown that we wanted to go to. But, thanks for your recs. I totally enjoyed Oh! Taisho's ambiance and yakitori. I'm sure that he'll be enjoying your list! Thanks so much again!

Moving to the East Village

Hi everyone! My bf is moving to the East Village and I was wondering if you have any recs around the area. He will be pretty much working all the time and I want to provide him a list of places he can go to to get something to eat - fast/substantial/and of course tasty =). He's an incoming first yr resident and I am sure that he will have NO TIME for anything. Any recs will be greatly appreciated!

Baltimore/Inner Harbour suggestions pls?

Thanks so much for the suggestions everyone! We went to the Lexington Market twice and tried Faidley's and bought a few (more like 3 lbs :>) of berger cookies for our friends to try. It was such a hot weekend that my bf and I were just not in our element. We did enjoy Faidley's and had a good time browsing at the market. We also tried an El Salvadorian place but since I'm from Miami, I was not that impressed with the food. On Sunday, we were invited to eat at Bo Brook's so we didn't really have a say on where to eat but we enjoyed the company!

Baltimore/Inner Harbour suggestions pls?

Hi Everyone! My bf and I will be in Baltimore on Fri/Sat/Sun and are staying at the Tremont Plaza Hotel. A few things on our agenda - Baltimore Museum of Art on Friday night for an event, the aquarium and the National Zoo on Sat and Sun. Any restaurant suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I was thinking of maybe one nice dinner, one casual dinner, divey places (if any) for lunch and a nice Sunday brunch. (I already read up on the berger cookie so that's on our list). Thanks in advance!
