Thanks for all the advice. We wound up at Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill at the MGM. The food was pretty good, although the location -- our table was a few feet away from the gaming floor -- made for a high noise-and-cigarette-smoke level. And Dave Feldman, thanks for the tip about Lotus and Rosemary's -- I wish either place had mentioned their bar when I called to ask about reservations. (They both simply said, "We're completely full.") Just curious about Lotus of Siam -- is the bar open at lunchtime? Was thinking of trying to squeeze in a visit there tomorrow afternoon, before our flight home at 4:30. ----- |

After three days in Las Vegas, we're stuck for a place to go to dinner tonight -- and, stupidly, forgot to make reservations in advance, so board favorites like Lotus of Siam and Rosemary's are booked up. Anyone have any recommendations for a place in Vegas -- ideally near the MGM Grand (where we're staying) or the Mirage (where we're seeing a show at 9:30) -- that might have room for two at 7:30? For what it's worth, we've already tried Fleur (great food, lousy setting) Border Grill (very salty) and Bouchon at the Venetian (great food, great setting). (We've got a car, BTW, so we can go off-strip if need be.) ----- Border Grill Lotus of Siam |

stuffed pork tenderloin -- cooking time I have a delicious-looking recipe for pork tenderloin, but just wanted to double-check something: The recipe calls for a cooking time of 60 to 75 minutes in a 325-degree oven, for a 3/4-pound tenderloin. I've seen recipes that call for as little as 20 minutes cooking time for a tenderloin, so an hour and fifteen minutes seems a little excessive -- would cooking a stuffed one at that temperature for that long wind up drying it out? |

Inexpensive lunches near 7th Ave and 28th Street Blue Dog Cafe, on 25th between 6th and 7th (closer to 6th, on the north side of the street) has excellent sandwiches, cookies, and pastries. |

Buying fish on a Monday at a supermarket I know you're not supposed to eat fish at a restaurant on a Monday, because the odds are, it's been sitting there since the restaurant got its delivery on Friday. But does anyone know if the same applies to fish at a supermarket, e.g. Whole Foods? |

Sammy's Roumanian - proper attire? Going to Sammy's Roumanian tonight, and just have one quick question -- is it like a standard steakhouse, where you'd be extremely out of place in shorts and a t-shirt? I ask only 'cause, given the current temperatures, I'm not eager to wear a whole lot of layers, especially if I'm going to be stuffed with steak and vodka. |

Maroons in Chelsea or Clinton (???) It's all good -- the jerk chicken and the smothered pork chops especially. |

Blue Ginger (sushi place) in Chelsea? Anyone tried this sushi place on 8th Ave around 16th or so? Is it any good? (And, if not, any recommendations for other sushi places in the vicinity?) |

Anyone know anything about this place on 8th Ave.? It's the airplane-themed one (windows that look like a hangar, etc.) between, I think, 15th and 16th. I'd never given it a second look, but I just saw some enthusiastic reviews on Citysearch -- almost *too* enthusiastic, as if they'd been placed there by the restaurant's owners. Is it any good? |
