Kelly's, Sullivan's, or Bell Isle ?

I agree that Belle Isle has the best food, but zero atmosphere as far as I'm concerned, and unless I'm missing something, there's really nothing going on there except the food. Sullivans has okay food but is a classic Boston experience and just an all around fun spot. The beach, the walk around the water, the playgrounds for kids, etc. I suppose Kelly's would be somewhere in the middle. Depends on what you get but the food is good and at least there's a beach to walk around on.

SOUTHERN FRIED CHICKEN

strip T's is awesome.
really freakin' good.
and highland kitchen monday night fried chicken is excellent too.
i think those are the two best in the boston area, tho' i haven't tried coast cafe, which i have heard is good.

A rare night out with the wife

We went to Strip Ts last Fri night and I highly recommend. You can make a reservation tho' at this point they are likely mostly booked....go for an early dinner tho and I bet you can get in. Really really good.

I also love Russell House Tavern, we've always had great food and service and it's fun to be right in Harvard Sq to walk around afterwards...

Strip-T's question

Thanks, didn't know they take reservations...that solves that problem ;)

Strip-T's question

Hi guys...
We've got a small window for dinner on Friday night, i.e. 6-8. If we made it to Strip T's a little before 6, do you think we could get in? I know it's a popular spot these days and normally I'd be okay with waiting a bit...but unfortunately we are dealing with those time constraints. I was thinking maybe if we got there on the earlier side, like 545ish or a little after, our chances would be better? But would like to hear from some of you who have actually been there and have seen what the seating is like. Is there a bar area? Totally clueless on the setup.
TIA!

Del Frisco's must trys? [moved from Boston board]

Agree, the ribeye is excellent.
Funny, I was there recently and didn't even notice the tacky uniforms. We were in a private room so perhaps the wait staff was dressed differently? I have no clue but whatever they were wearing it wasn't memorable (to me, anyway)

how long can i keep ground meat?

ps it's ground beef. forgot to mention that. some sites online say just 2-3 days, so perhaps i should just toss it?

how long can i keep ground meat?

It was refrigerated for a week....purchased from a butcher so meat was not previously packaged. Forgot it was in the fridge for that long and then promptly tossed it in the freezer. Do you think it's still okay to eat or is it not worth the risk?
I am not a huge meat eater so not that familiar with how long stuff stays good. I did sneak a quick peek at it and it was definitely browning a bit, but was wrapped really tightly so i don't think too much oxygen would have gotten to it.

Help? Toss or cook?

TIA.

Where should I go for my birthday dinner in Boston?

did you actually call Island Creek (vs. booking online?) They might be able to accomodate you, especially if you tell them you are coming in from out of town for a b'day celebration. If it is still a no-go, you could do Sorrelina, but honestly I think there are better choices. How about Bondir (in Cambridge, not Boston, but supposed to be great) Or...Towne? Scampo? Both Lydia Shire spots and both have excellent food with a celebratory atmosphere. Scampo is in the old Charles Street Jail (obviously it's been renovated, now the Liberty Hotel) and it's a very fun spot.
Craigie on Main is in Cambridge and is excellent as well (tho' I suspect you'd have a tough time getting in there on a Sat night as well) Another place I LOVE is Hungry Mother, in Cambridge. Really delicious food, but again, a hot ticket on a Saturday night. Those are a few of my favorites. My top choice would definitely be Island Creek Oyster Bar though....keep us posted! I can come up with lots more ideas if necessary.

Post Your Three Favorite Things You ate in Boston in 2011

that biscuit at ICOB is amazing. more like a dessert than a piece of bread to have with dinner, tho'...

Razor Clams- Season? Boston Vendors?

Had a delicious rendition of razor clams a couple of weeks ago at Toro. Not sure if it's a seasonal menu dish or something that is always there, but we all really enjoyed the dish.

cupcakes --back bay or south end?

ah, forgot about the buttery. thanks!
that might work!

cupcakes --back bay or south end?

Hi there,
Any suggestions on where I could grab a few cupcakes tomorrow to celebrate my little one's birthday? (the cake is coming this w/e!) I am pretty sure there's no where in the south end....there might be a cupcake store on Newbury St (Sweet, maybe?) but I'm not sure.
Party Favors is an option (and is exactly what I am looking for) but would prefer not to trek out to Brookline. Any recs appreciated.

Thanks!

Eating In Boston with Child on the Cheap? (not looking for kids menus!)

Agree w Striper. And I am not *exactly* sure where the other places you mentioned are, tho' I think one might be at the corner of Melnea Cass and Mass Ave (not recommended) ....

Eating In Boston with Child on the Cheap? (not looking for kids menus!)

Check out Picco in the South End. Great neighborhood to walk around too, lots of restaurants, galleries, shops, etc. Picco has excellent pizza, as well as salads, pasta, etc. Good ice cream too and a perfect environment for kids as well as adults.

Speed's pastrami

FYI, Staff Meal is at Peters Park, Washington St specifically on Saturdays. I'm not sure if they are there another day during the week or not, but the spot they park in is specifically designated for food trucks. I think I saw a cupcake truck there recently but it doesn't seem to be filled up all week long with rotating trucks like some other prime spots in the city. Not yet anyway, the food truck parking designation is relatively new, maybe a few months old.

Sunday night hot spot?

Any feedback on Deuxave? I know there was lots of buzz when it first opened, It seems to have died down..wondering what this place would be like on a Sunday night. But more importantly, how the food/vibe is....

Sunday night hot spot?

Yeah, i suppose vibrant IS another way of saying loud --or more importantly, a place with lots of energy. He's always looking for hip, hot spots...I've tried to explain that we live in Boston *kidding* Anyway, I've ruled out Bondir as that seems more like an intimate spot. I've been to Craigie and even that seems a little sedate to me, tho' i may try it. I agree that Toro or Coppa could fit the bill (tho' not reservations at Toro)....Scampo and Towne were both great choices in the past. But again, I'm not allowed to "repeat.."

Sunday night hot spot?

I post this every once in a while, as my brother-in-law comes to visit from NYC --and wants to go out to a great restaurant, usually on Sunday nights. Food needs to be excellent, of course, but just as important is a vibrant, energetic, busy crowd. That's obviously not hard to find on a Friday or Sat night, but Sunday gets a little tougher. Money is no object, but I think the really high-end places will tend to be more subdued and that's totally not his style. Not picky about the type of food --probably not Asian but anything else is likely a go. We've been to Scampo, Towne, Island Creek Oyster --they were all good choices. I'd love to head back to ICOB but he doesn't want to go to the same place twice (yes, he's a bit high-maintenance.) Anyway, suggestions? How about Bondir? Or is that fairly subdued? I also know some spots aren't open on Sunday nights, so there's that. Any recs/suggestions appreciated. Oh, also, it needs to be a place that we'll take a reservation, unless we can pretty much be assured of getting a table without a wait on a Sunday evening at around 730. Coppa or Toro could fit the bill, but the no reservations thing could be a drag (tho' does Coppa now take them?) Anyway, recs much appreciated, thanks.

New (?) Toscanini flavor

wait, is salty caramel different than my all time favorite flavor, burnt caramel? i'm guessing yes.

Dorchester dinner recs?

So..we are meeting some friends for dinner....need to be somewhere in the Dorchester vicinity. Thoughts are Ashmont Grill. D Bar, Tavolo..? Haven't been to Ashmont Grill in years tho' it was okay when we last went. It'll be 4 folks on a Sat night, reservations would be great OR a place that would be able to take us at 7ish without a problem. We like good food, casual atmosphere, a vibrant lively spot that's a fun place to enjoy a meal. But since I haven't been to any of these places lately, I'm not sure how they rate. Or is there somewhere else in that area you might recommend? Thanks in advance.

Dinner near Paradise Rock Club?

We are seeing a show there this weekend and I can't seem to recall many possibilities in that area.I know thee's Carlo's over on Brighton Ave and Sunset Grill (good for beer and maybe an app or two)...but anything else? Mind is sorta drawing a blank over in that area. TIA.

Best breakfast sandwich?

Ah, thanks for the correction!

Dark Chocolate with salt [moved from Boston]

i just got little dark chocolate covered caramels at TJs (sprinkled w sea salt) Also excellent.

Al Dente, Santarpio's or Regina???????????

Yep, I agree. Though if you are going to New Haven for pizza you could just ditch the Boston pizza idea altogether (and then not have to sift thru all our *very* strong opinions) and eat at Al Dente..

Thanks opinionatedchef! :)

Best breakfast sandwich?

Second Mike & Patty's.
I also think an egg and cheese on english muffin at Charley's Sandwich Shoppe is divine. Very simple but made fresh to order and then put under the broiler for a minute or two to make it all crispy & gooey. Delicious.

Fish & chip special?

They are either trying to be funny OR trying to take advantage of some of their less "intelligent" (shall we say) clientele. Either way, sorta ridiculous.

Al Dente, Santarpio's or Regina???????????

Yeah, but you're in the middle of nowhere. A dark, semi deserted street with a lone pizza shop on the corner. I mean, yeah, the pizza's good, but as far as I am concerned, Regina's is just as good (i personally think better) and then you've got the ENTIRE north end right outside your door. I'm visiting Boston for the day, I'd want to be where the action is. Not trekking all the way out of the city to some lone pizza joint laughing at waiters in track suits. I think Santarpios is a great experience for those of us who live here and might just be in search of good pizza (not caring so much about where or how we eat it) For a tourist visiting Boston for the day, not-so-much ;)
