Yes, Korea should fall under Northeast Asia (Geography 101)!

Thanks so much for your tips.

Seoul Recommendations for Tokyo/Seoul Trip [moved from Japan board]

Next year, I plan to go to both Tokyo & Seoul during the same trip.

I used this board's tips for previous Tokyo visits.

Does anyone have suggestions for Seoul restaurants?

Is there a Seoul Board on Chowhound?

Thanks!

Good steak place in Kobe?

Wakkoqu Steakhouse
Shopping mall, Crowne Plaza Hotel building
Near JR Shinkansen Station
Kobe, Japan

Tenderloin dinner is expensive, but worth every penny.

Been there twice; check out their website.

Ramen shops in Tokyo with tables & waitstaff?

I cannot read or write Japanese, so dealing with order forms, signs, or
ticket machines is a problem.

However, I can speak & understand Japanese, so ordering is easy
(shoyu, katame, menma, etc.).

Don't want to end up in ramen-ya that cater to tourists, but rather
where native Tokyoites go to slurp.

Suggestions are welcome!

Wagyu beef in Tokyo or Kyoto, non-teppanyaki, non-Dons?

My favorite teppanyaki place is in Kobe, Wakkoqu.

It's expensive & you need to take the Shinkansen,
but it is worth it.

Not just a meal, more like the highlight of a trip to Japan.

We sat at a counter & had our own personal chef (it
helped that the place was empty at the time).

Good Oden in Tokyo?

I would like to try good oden while in Tokyo later this month.

Any recommendations, that do not involve convenience-store
oden, would be appreciated. Are there specialty restaurants?

Thanks!

Using Credit Cards in Japan

Will restaurants in Tokyo & elsewhere generally accept
American Express?

I don't want to carry a lot of cash around, & don't have an
ATM card.

Thanks.

Yakiniku-Tei Rokkasen in Nishi-Shinjuku

Has anyone been to this Korean place
just to the west of Shinjuku Station?

They advertise all-you-can-eat deals
with Matsusaka beef. (Also have all-
you-can-drink options.)

So, of course, I'm dying to go there for
dinner!

The prices are high, though. I want
to know if fellow Chowers think it's worth
the money.

Thanks.

Goma-dare dishes in Tokyo?

Would like to try food made with sesame seeds
or sesame sauces, such as ramen or chicken
wings.

Any specific recommendations?

Thanks!

4 Days Tokyo-Eat a little of everything

Some have English menus, some have
plastic food displays that you can point
to when ordering, some you must know
basic Japanese food vocabulary.

4 Days Tokyo-Eat a little of everything

I always have teppanyaki while in Tokyo, because
I love wagyu.

Two recommendations: Satou in Kichijoji & Seryna in
Nishi-Shinjuku.

Can I get Matsusaka beef in Nagoya?

Can I get Matsusaka beef in Nagoya?

I & a friend will be taking the shinkansen to Nagoya,
then another JR train to Matsusaka.

We plan to go to Wadakin for steak. If we can't make
it to Matsusaka, is there a place in Nagoya that serves
Matsusaka beef?

As a last resort, we may just go to Satou in Kichijoji.

Thanks in advance!

Have I had Kobe Beef Yet? Does A-1 Steakhouse serve Kobe beef?

I went to Wakkoqu in Kobe & had genuine Kobe beef.

My friend & I ordered sirloin & tenderloin, respectively,
& we each tried both (tenderloin obviously softer--but
both melt in your mouth, like foie gras).

Best steaks I ever had, but a lot more expensive than A-1.
I am definitely going back, & would recommend it to you,
if you can afford it.

Best restaurant in all of Japan?

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.

If you ask the right question, then you get
useful answers.

What is your favorite restaurant, rather than
what is the best restaurant?!!!

Best restaurant in all of Japan?

To make life easier, let me narrow the question:

What is your personal favorite restaurant in Japan?

For example, after 2 trips to Japan, I would have to say
Wakkoqu in Kobe (Shin-Kobe branch).

Second place: Seryna in Tokyo (Nishi-Shinjuku branch).

Obviously, these are both high-end teppanyaki places, but I'm
open to new experiences.

Best restaurant in all of Japan?

Thanks, Dave--love sushi!

I am really looking forward to Wadakin in Matsusaka
(I saw your post in June about it).

Maybe I will end up voting for Wadakin as my #1 in Japan....

Best restaurant in all of Japan?

I will be with a friend (2 people dining).

Also, I can't decide among all the different
types of Japanese cuisine. Sushi, kaiseki,
teppanyaki, fusion--love 'em all!

Best restaurant in all of Japan?

I will be going to Japan in Nov., & would like your opinions
now so I can make a reservation, if necessary.

If you had to pick just one place, & cost was not an issue,
what would it be? I love all types of Japanese cuisine.

As a foodie, I'm looking for a memorable experience that
will be the highlight of my trip. I will have a JR rail pass,
so travel is easy.

Thanks!
