Best dim sum and xiao long bao in Vancouver?

I'm going to be in town for a few days next week and want to find the best dim sum and dumpling house possible (especially for xiao long bao). I'd love it if you share some of your favorites. Thanks!

Musha or Mariscos Chente

Angel Maid is perfect... but Musha (I prefer the Torrance location hands down for authenticity and flavor of dishes) has a delicious tiramisu and maple creme brulee. I live down the street from Chente and have been hearing from friends that the dishes are lacking these days (probably because Sergio is at an Inglewood location as others suggested) so my suggestion, if it's just between the two, would be Musha in Torrance. Even though I have over-dosed on it, I will still always recommend it to others. Some favorites are tuna poke, ebi mayo, yellowtail salad (special), cook your own beef tenderloin, buta kimchee noodles, clam with mushrooms udon (not soup).

Where to find the best menudo on the Westside?

Thanks Servorg... I was hoping there would be something on the Westside... I heard El Abajeno around the corner from me is pretty good... but I'm willing to make the drive for good food! I will check the thread.

Where to find the best menudo on the Westside?

I saw the one mini-thread for Sinaloan menudo blanco but was surprised I couldn't find any other threads on Menudo! Does anyone have a favorite spot to suggest? I've been wanting to try menudo for years and haven't.... so it's about time I venture out.

Thanks!

Where's the SPICIEST, Most Mouth BURNING YUMMINESS in Town

I was just at Pa-Ord (noodle shop in Thai town although they have other dishes too) for the first time and their version of "mild" is pretty darn spicy... so I can only imagine what their "spicy" would taste like. My nose was already running with my mild boat noodles and catfish curry. I did say mild-medium, so maybe they leaned more on the medium, but still a great go-to for spicy authentic country style Thai cooking.

La Petite Creperie in Mar Vista. New Place, best Crepes in West LA

Vittus, I was able to check out La Petite Creperie this Sunday with some out-of-town guests and everyone loved it! I'm always at the Mar Vista Farmer's Market on Sundays, so this will definitely be my go-to for crepes on the Westside since it's not only affordable, but the flavors are so fresh and delicious. I was a bit skeptical at first when I saw the small portions, but I was pleasantly full and satisfied with just my one crepe. We were able to try the forestiere and jambon omelets, the apple, pineapple, and ham and egg crepes. All of the dishes were nicely made with subtle fresh flavors that were not overpowered by additional spices. The Jambon w/ egg and gruyere savory crepe was definitely the stand-out for me, but the sweet crepes were delicious as well. Great for a light dessert... I wrote a pretty extensive review on my site with photos if anyone wants more details.

That's funny... I spied this new crepe joint while at the Farmer's Market and there were only two tables taken a little after noon. Looks like a cute spot, but $4 coffee? Ouch!

Servorg, I just checked on Yelp and as of 6/28 they are still closed :( Although their website is still up and says they will be open... it's been a long time since the fire happened and it doesn't look like any remodeling is being done.

I just found out that Mendocino Farms (3 locations--two downtown, 1 Marina del Rey) has a lobster roll called the Mendo’s Untraditional Lobster Roll (sauteed lobster with meyer lemon celery aioli, applewood smoked bacon, tomatoes, and shredded romaine on Breadbar’s roll.) Sounds intense... but I haven't actually checked them out yet. Maybe someone else on the thread has?

best birthday cake

I am super picky with cake... and like you don't like things that are dry, super-sweet, or buttercreamy. Angel Maid is the best bakery I have found (although it is on the Westside) because their cakes are extremely light and they tend to use fresh whipped cream for their frosting (I really don't like the coat the roof of your mouth buttercream so this is so much better). Also, their cakes are sweetened perfectly! Oops, I just realized this post is super old and you probably already got your b-day cake.. but it never hurts to be in the know!

I second the Jitlada option--they have a very spicy Southern Thai menu that has almost a hundred dishes on it. Also, I want to mention Boiling Crab for Southern style seafood boil with a Vietnamese twist. Think messy crawfish, shrimp, crab, clams, fried oysters, catfish fillet) I can't even deal with their "medium" spiciness... the xxx is crazy and will probably burn your tastebuds to shreds! Jitlada is in Hollywood, Boiling Crab has a few locations (original is in Westminster, although closer locations include 2 in Alhambra and one in Rowland Heights.

Have fun!

Trying to find german potato salad similar to Die Bretzel's on UCSB's campus in the 90s

Alpine Village in Torrance, a kitschy German village type of place, has a nice warm and vinegary potato salad there...

Ooh thanx Servorg! I actually heard of this place and got turned away because it looked like a fine dining take... whereas the place we ate at in Miami, Chez le Bebe was straight up down home cooking, cheap and huge! But I will check this place out after seeing those pictures... only thing is, it looks like TiGeorge's is closed temporarily after a fire at the restaurant?

You would have a hard time finding Haitian food in LA... I just had Haitian cuisine for the first time in Miami, and it was phenomenal. Too bad I won't be finding much of that around here. :(
