35W - What are your can't miss gems?

It is a wasteland, a food desert in my experience. Pack a lunch and stop at one of the beautiful rest stops.

Camellia Brand Red Beans

Have never seen them here. They are a local Louisiana variety and I have not even seen them in Houston Tx. They are the best!

Parents 50th anniversary

I know I sound like a broken record, but I spend most of my special event times at Meritage. Classic, fantastic food, exemplary service, and a feeling of Paris or New Orleans.

Quick! Where should we have date-night dinner tonight?

You can have a great meal at Cheng Heng, the Cambodian restaurant would work, too. Spice is less intense than Thai food.

French Fried Potatoes

Sounds like a good place for frites. Thanks for posting Seige.

French Fried Potatoes

I like really crisp, browned french fries. Hate McDonalds fries, too pale and mushy. I do like the fries at Meritage, but they are a bit too upscale for getting ones grub on. Any ideas of other options? What type of fries do you like and where do you like to get them?

visiting, sunset area [San Francisco]

Hi folks,

I will be visiting for 10 days and staying in the sunset area. We are on a budget and would like some ideas of good chow at a reasonable price. We are omnivores and adventurous eaters. Any ideas would be great. We will also have a car. Please chowdogs, tell me where we should eat and also what to miss. I promise reports.

King cakes in the twin cities

I got one there, too and it was delicious!

King cakes in the twin cities

just called them to reserve one for Mardi Gras day. They have almond, raspberry and apricot filled cakes for $20 and they feed 20-24

gravlax

I find if I press the fish between two nesting glass baking pans and use flat weights from the gym, I get wonderful, dense, transparent gravlox.

Outstanding Soup

I just had a wonderful bowl of Hue Soup at IPho. It consisted of a lovely spicy beef broth with chunks of stew meat (I'm not good at figuring out what type it was, but it had a nice fattiness, and connective tissue). The soup included nice, plump, round rice noodles, about the width of a soda straw. Fantastic and warmed my soul with memories of Hue.

Where are the donuts?

Actually,
I've tried your old fashioned Cub ones and was pleased! I'll consider the White Trash ones, but it requires frying and I hate doing that.

Where are the donuts?

Thanks for all the advice. It seems I will be on the donut hunt soon. For me, its cake donuts or apple fritters. I will check out The Bakers Wife (thanks KT), and Cub!?(Thanks IBEW) soon. With this colder weather, its time for a sweet carb fix.

Where are the donuts?

There seems not to be a donut culture here in the cities. I have lived all over the country and most locations have donuts and a culture of donuts and donut shops. What is going on in the twin cities? I don't get it. Please hounders, I need my fix, and I don't know where to go. I have been to grandmas in West St. Paul and they are really good, but its such a trek. Any ideas of good donuts closer to the core cities?

Best Indian/Thai in Mpls between airport and Mpls

There seems to be a new Indian Restaurant opening in the Lucy's location on the kiss of death corner of Franklin and 31st. Hopefully they can make it.
