The perfect way to cook jasmine rice

This is my go-to method now for Jasmine rice and I have never been disappointed.

Markets/farm stands on the way to NOTL

Avoid the St. Catharines market this weekend. The Grape & Wine parade is happening, and downtown is largely blocked off.

Right in NOTL, on Hwy 55, across from Jackson Triggs winery is a great farmer's market. This is the second last weekend of the season.

St.Catharines Foodie

Any time you can find El Gastronomo Vagabundo (food truck), you're in for a treat. They're often at Flat Rock Cellars in the summer.

Pho Dau Bo on Geneva, behind Dihn Dihn has the best Pho around.

Spicy Thai is hands down the best Thai, in my opinion.

Touch of India is quaint and the food is really good. Had nothing but bad experiences at Bansaree.

For decent pub grub, there's Cat's Caboose on Glenridge. It's far better than it appears, and the food is honest and totally unpretentious.

I've heard mixed reviews of the new Mexican place on Hartzel. Still waiting for someone braver than me to go there and tell me about it. LOL

Toi is quaint, with an interesting Asian style "tapas" menu. Their sambal soy dip for the sweet potato fries is amazing. I go just for that.

The Feathery Pub on Fourth is good. Avoid the French Onion soup (unless you're okay with cinnamon in it) and the steak. Please, avoid the steak.

Speaking of steak, I second Wildfire. Far better than the Keg.

Shirley Temple

Getting a real Shirley Temple requires some work, just to get proper grenadine. The stuff they sell now is merely dyed sugar syrup.

What Food to Bring New Parents

Forgot to mention that for the last new parent couple we took food to, I made a mild curried chicken and barley soup, a twice baked potato casserole, and some mocha truffle cookies, all frozen. I found that it wasn't the first days when I couldn't make a meal. It was 2-3 months in when naps were unpredictable and the baby was more needy/demanding.

What Food to Bring New Parents

Limit your visit to 45 minutes? That's a limited visit? Wow, I must be more introverted than I thought. Having to be available to anyone but my immediate family (read: husband and children) for that long was outside of my ability with a newborn. Call first, stay for 15-20 minutes and then please leave unless I'd ask you to stay longer. LOL

Magnolia's Grill, Lunenburg

Just Tweeted by Chef Michael Smith "chefMICHAELsmth

St Catherines...where to eat?

Cat's Caboose is surprisingly good. They seem to have real, fresh food there and there's a decent variety.

Moving to St. Catharines -- tips?

Went last week. BLAND. Reviewed it on Urbanspoon. The "cashew chicken" was more like orange chicken. Everything was so flavourless.
