Rubirosa rocked

Planned a casual business dinner for 20 people. Found Rubirosa among a few recommendations on this Board. It was terrific so thank you. We had the middle (private) room. Its a fixed menu to which I added roast chicken. I pre ordered wine . There was way too much food all of it good especially the pizza and the chicken. They even accommodated a couple of vegans! They could not have been nicer to plan with and the service in an admittedly smallish space was top notch. Highly recommend for a similar event and we will go back gladly for the pizza.

Between st pancras and heathrow....lunch? [London]

I did manage a 2 pm reservation at The Ledbury...our favorite restaurant in London and a wonderful idea. We will keep close eye on the time but should have about 2 hours and indeed a great way to end the Holiday. Thanks everyone. John let me know when you are headed to Boston!

Between st pancras and heathrow....lunch? [London]

Last booking at Hinds Head is 1:30. Anyone familiar with the Ostrich Inn in Coinbrook? Close to LHR and 2:30 table available. Search turned up nada. Oh to please save us from Gordon on Wings or whatever it is and the meals of BA........

Between st pancras and heathrow....lunch? [London]

Thanks Harters. We are trying to avoid the city proper due to time and luggage ...perhaps a pub that serves all day might be in between ? I have searched "Heathrow layover " as well as "St Pancras" and pickings are slim.

Between st pancras and heathrow....lunch? [London]

We will be at the end of a 2 week holiday having spent 4 days in London ,5 days in Paris and another 4 days in Strasbourg . Eurostar deposits us at St Pancras at 130 pm and our flight home to Boston leaves lHR at 730 pm. So we would like to taxi to somewhere for a long comfortable lunch. Hopefully wine will be involved. All cuisines are enjoyed and price no object for this our last repast prior to being hurled over the Atlantic in a tube for some 7 hours...any thoughts please?
Trip is last 2weeks of April. Thanks.

Sunday night hot spot?

Coppa now takes reservations. Sportello is an option. The bar at Rendezvous as well. And we just finished a Sunday nite dinner at Trade and liked it lot ( considering that it has been open 3 days ! ).

experiences with Sofra catering? other good caterers with Middle Eastern menus?

I hired them for a party of 16 at our home end of September. Chose a primarily meat and nut free menu. They were creative , very easy to work with and generous. I asked for dinner ( informal buffet) at 40 pp and we had enough food to feed people for a week. It was totally delicious. Only things I would change are 1) plating fee not worth it as platters were basic plastic and I replated everything as it was way too informal 2) too much bread stuffs. We had lots of dips etc left over but even accounting for that there was too much bread ( crick crax, brioche rolls etc). But a generally great experience. Chef Heather even delivered personally. highly recommend Guests were fascinated by menu.

Need a solid dinner recommendation, please

Thanks for reporting back and very glad you enjoyed ICOB. I love the lobster roe noodles and last night they had a lobster risotto that was really really good.

Need a solid dinner recommendation, please

No but there is more space than the front bar area. None of it is elegant in the intimate or ornate sense. But it is a bustling , comfortable , large and interesting and very well done space in my opinion. Enjoy the food.

Wow so not a sports bar. Let us know what you think when you get inside as that post for a walk by was harsh. Welcome to Boston.

Saturday pre theater lunch not brunch Next weekend

we have 2pm matinee on 45th St Last visits we have done Ma Peche (twice) and Bar at the Modern. Loved them both. Maybe time for something different. We have already booked dinner Friday after Lincoln Center at Bar Boulud and dinner Sat at Gotham Bar and Grille. Thoughts? 2 of us , price not an issue, wine a definite and we are staying at Setai so Ai Fiori a possibility....prefer more lunch than a brunch menu...tapas might be nice. Many thanks.

Decent Scali Bread in Back bay or South end?

Love the scali bread at the bakery in Sportello. Fort Point.

Tocqueville. Relegated to lounge. How upset should I be?

Thanks Kathryn. Always enjoy and learn a lot from your posts. Re the recommendation that we book Picholine as an insurance reservation...about 6 mos ago we had a late table there after Lincoln Center and it was totally dreadful. I was awfully disappointed as I had previously very much enjoyed a private surprise birthday party for my Husband in the Wine Cellar. I won't go thru the specifics but suffice to say when the cheese cart came and I asked if the server would explain something about the cheese he replied " they are mild medium and strong" It was very late and our conclusion was that the cold food, rushed service and general tude was a result of them just wanting us out of there . I did complain to the manager on the way out and among other specifics I told him that their cheese deserves better. He agreed on all points and we are in reservation system for a comped dinner ( we had ordered splurge wine and spent well over $400 for the 2 of us ). But I am not ready to do that again right now and may not be for a long while.....looking forward to the weekend and thanks for all the advice.

Tocqueville. Relegated to lounge. How upset should I be?

Good advice. Was thinking at one point to get in line for brunch at Prune. As dinner reservations are at 830-9pm suspect this is doable without food overload....thanks.

Tocqueville. Relegated to lounge. How upset should I be?

Thanks all, I had looked at a number of options and everything that interested us was unavailable. But just checked and got a 9 pm at WD50. An adventure as we haven't been there in a very long time. Decided to cancel on principle alone. Ellennost btw also doing another lunch pre theater Sat at Ma Peche , brunch at Otto Sunday and lunch on way to LGA Mon at Legend. Thanks again.

Tocqueville. Relegated to lounge. How upset should I be?

We come to NYC once a quarter to enjoy theater and food. Have reservations next weekend for Tocqueville Sat and Maialino Sun nites. Got a call last Tues informing us that Tocqueville DR closed for private party and our reservation would be honored in lounge with same menu etc. A bit ticked that we were called so late as it's too late to substitute the likes of Gramercy, Union nevermind Modern, Bouley, EMP etc. Suspect "book out" of the entire dining room didn't happen suddenly. so please tell me nice things about the lounge ...I don't see cancel and rebooking as an option at this late date. This is our first visit to Tocqueville and I booked it despite husbands protest and preference to go to Bouley or Modern or EMP again. please advise re lounge ambiance. Thanks.

ISO: Peking duck in manhattan with round tables!

i was dragged to a business dinner at PDH Chinatown less than 6 months ago and it was the worst meal of my entire life..and its been a long life...just a cartoon Dont do it ..it didn't look or feel clean The servers just hung around standing in a line and ignoring the customers The duck was sort of mass served and parts shuffled here and there to and from tables .. the starters and sides were inedible and wine choices were red or white and equally horrific ..Please save yourself

What's For Dinner - we made it to Part 100! [Old]

I recall this topic started by a Canadian gentleman who had a Burmese Mountain dog as his avatar.. He got pissed by some early accusation re racism and stopped posting for awhile. He then came back to this thread with a vengeance until he announced that he was entering Hospice. And disappeared Do you recall this Harters? It's when you and I had a great Beatles analogy exchange..... Congrats on surviving to 100. I have learned a lot.

Great food, a little space, atmosphere, etc. in Paris for under 125 E pp

Take a look at Dominique Bouchet or L'Arome both in the 8th and both very special.

I am so grateful to this board and so late in reporting. I apologize. We started with lunch at Bull and Last. We throroughly enjoyed it starters were asparagus for me , mixed greens for husb ( now known as H) and guinea hen for me and mackerel for H. Good value , fun atmosphere and good service. That night we did a late dinner at Quilon. It was alot of fun the food very good. Nothing stands out particularly as wow except the service. Hakkasan business dinner was my least favorite meal. There were 7 of us and felt a bit like factory serving. Most memorable dish was the duck salad. Next night was Dinner and H loved it more than I but I was MAD about the meat fruit and thought the duck ( which looked like 2pears on a plate to me ) was pretty damn good. Service was fine if not " polished" and room was a scene but not intolerable. Somehow in the midst of this we managed a lunch at Launceston Place which was lovely with perfect service. We try to have a meal here every trip and highly recommend The last night was the Ledbury and all I can say is I am and always will be in love with this place. H had mackerel again and I again did fowl. I can't recommend this place highly enough. The room is gorgeous , the service amazing and was a perfect end to a very short trip t a wonderful food City. Enjoy!

Local,seasonal,organic eats?

I do know and have dined at Blue Hill and the most akin we have are Hamersleys in the South End and one of my absolute favorites Salts on Main St Central Sq Cambridge. Salts sources their vegetables and greens from the farm run by the Chefs family . We dined there last night and it was as always superb. Enjoy.

Quick cocktail ? Duane St

heading down from Boston this afternoon. 8:30pm reservation tomorrow evening at Bouley. If we would like a cocktail in that vicinity prior to dinner, where to go? Prefer not a scene kinda place. Tx

Thanks so much GG and Limster. I have reserved Quilon ( tapas and wine bars seem to be closed ) Sunday late evening and printed the list to do a tapas wine lunch Tues or Wed. What is a vacation lunch if not a very good reason to have a glass or two. Much appreciated.

Need a recommendation for downtown Phoenix, a Restaurant and a Lounge/Bar

Smudge bee where did u go and how was it? I am searching to do exactly the same sort of thing for cocktails and finger food for about 150 people in the Fall. Close walk from convention center needed. Thanks

Please help me fill in the blanks London May

Arrive Sun am. Have lunch booked at Bull and Last. Would like good wine or tapas bar that evening for light dinner. Monday a work day and dinner already booked for work group at Hakassan. Tues managed to score late reservation at Dinner. Wed have late reservation for dinner at Ledbury. We are a party of 2 Fairly adventurous and build vacations around good dining ....so please help with lite tapas or wine bar Sunday and 2 calorie worthy lunches Tues Wed. All cuisines ok and price not a consideration. By late dinners I mean 10 pm so sparing lunch not a total necessity......last in London Trinity in Clapham, Launceston Place and Ledbury caused us to swoon. We are staying in Marylebone but will travel where ever...coincidence to sightseeing not an issue as we will plan sightseeing around the restaurant location...thanks so much.

Weekend line up, thoughts

My Husband and I have promised ourselves to go to NYC quarterly for theater and great food . Last trip in January we very much enjoyed the dining room at The Modern for dinner Kin Shop for lunch.dinner at Forgione , our ritual Sunday before we go back to Boston lunch/brunch at Otto and had a terrible experience at a late dinner at Picholine. We are returning late April and my line up is 1) late dinner after theater at The Modern 2) lunch at Ma Peche 3) dinner at Bouley and 4)our ritual at the bar at Otto with hopefully Dennis tending. My questions are regarding Ma Peche as a good choice for a light lunch on Sat before a matinee. And any thoughts re an alternative to The Modern? we liked it a lot the first visit but we aren't against trying something new.I think we are limited as we are midtown and need a late(10:30) reservation. We do want high end. Thanks in advance. I have been the grateful recipient of your knowledge for many years .
