Do real bagels (boiled) exist in San Diego County?
In Oceanside there is I Love Bagels cafe, they boil their bagels, offer a pretty decent bialy , as well as products from back East (they're from N.J.). In the Home Depot center off the 78. Closest I've found to what Iam missing in the area.
Must try restaurants near Carlbad
Vivace in your hotel is the most wonderful dining ,regional Italian . Exceptional chef
Permanent market for local farmers?
It would be great to have a venue like that in our county. I miss the Reading Terminal Market in Philly
and would love to have a space like that to graze/shop in .
Torontonian coming for a short visit - approve?
Azafran is way up north in Oceanside. It will be a 30 minute drive up the 5 (or more). Not worth the drive in my opinion.
Banh Mi Sandwiches
It is owned by the couple that have the pho place next door. I love their pho , and everything I've tried there . Iam glad to know that the banh mi is worthy. I get mine in Westminster when Iam up that way.
Where to find real canned San Marzano tomatoes in North County?
Boney's on O'side Blvd sells them .
Refrigerator Purchase Anyone have a Samsung, an LG, a Kenmore, or a Whirlpool Gold French Door Refrigerator?
I bought the Samsung 4 door French refrigerator two months ago and I love it . 29Cu ft. The 4th drawer is great for either platters or deli stuff. Right now I have a very long stalk of brussel sprouts in there. The temp, is adjustable for the drawer ,too.
Cheese at Costco
Look for Scamorza from Italy (2 pack). At 5.99 a lb it's a nice find.
Any decent food at Legoland?
Maybe alittle late, but I have found the salad bar place the only wise choice for food in there. It's near the fire fighters ride
roast pork and greens sandwich
Since I don't live in Philly anymore Iam missing this soooo much. Are there any recipies out there for the roasted pork from Tony Luke or DiNics?

Any REAL Italian food in San Diego?

Carlsbad this weekend with young kids
I knew when I offered my rec that I'd get slammed ..but as a grammy I knew that chow worthy food isn't the priority when you have little ones in tow . Fun& feeding in a timely manner is the key. I agree Legoland has decent healthy food for the kids..we like the salad bar .
40th Birthday Weekend in Philly
if i still lived in Philly I'd be having dinner at Villa d Roma in S. Philly. I would order the chicken Sicillian and a side of escarole......sigh
Carlsbad this weekend with young kids
Buca DiBeppo is on El Camino Real in La Costa Forum Shopping center. It's noisy, lots of cool pics and stuff for the kids to look at. We take the grandkids there for some decent family style plates of Italian and pizza.
Sabrett Hot Dog Stand in Clairmont
I bought the red onion sauce in a jar @ Frazier Farms in Vista. It's Boars Head brand tho...still, it has that taste

suggestions for lunch break
My daughter in law recently found work near the I-5, CA- 15 merge in San Diego. She is from north county and has a hour long lunch break but no knowledge of any good eats in the area. Open to any suggestions for any type of cusine. Thanks!

Possible Bull Taco Oceanside location opening?
Me too, this is exciting news. I can walk there
Crab meat for Crab cakes.
I used the COS crabmeat from Costco two weeks ago to make crabcakes. I found the 'meat' to be large lump and fresh tasting. The lumps held their shape very well.
Soup Weather in San Diego
I got to eat @ Pho San Marcos yesterday and after trying the I Love Pho place in Vista Iam reporting on my newest obsession. I can honestly say that I could taste the difference in the broth and quality. Of the two I prefer San Marcos. I had the Pho w' rare beef and flank steak. The hint of sweetness in the broth (I think from cinnamon?) is addicting. I also tried the egg rolls and found it the perfect appetizer when wrapped up in the vegs and dipped in their fish sauce w' pickled vegs...yum.
Thank you for the eye/tongue opener. I think the owner is charming . He told me that he plans to open a Banh Mi place in the next few months,GREAT. His wife loves to cook Greek food hence the beef wrapped in grape leaves on the menu. I will be going back to eat some broken rice dishes as well as more soups.
