Nice Bottle of Wine

just enjoyed a nice bottle of jim barry 2004 cover drive cabernet (s. australia). I think you can get it at sams club or costco for ~$12.

good stuff.

REVIEW: Cafe Lucca, Orange

i agree with you on ubergeek's writing. loved the part about "or else it's opposite day"... lol.

anyone tried the place next to aldos? it's called mustard cafe and the baked goods looked better then blue frog. haven't tried it but had a cup of the illy coffee - good stuff.

REVIEW: El Farolito, Placentia

q tortas was one of my favorite haunts - great tasting carnitas and bang for the money. but got tired of the rude lady (owner) and i said that's enough and took my bizness elsewhere.

el farolito's thick greasy chips are tasty. not a refried beans eater but i enjoy el farolito's beans.

Recs for Fullerton Area Restaurants

not recommended - due to recent negative experience. had a holiday party at spadra last december (~10 of us), the restaurant was empty except for us and they recommended their new york steak special. i ordered the ny steak medium rare, when it arrived, it looked nicely grilled with some charring, cut into it and it was stinkin raw - purple raw. asked the waiter to have it cooked to order (med rare) and they nuked it and brought it back a couple minutes later and it was cooked throughout. same thing happened to two others at the table. not recommended.

good eats in ORANGE, CA (not OC, but the actual CITY of ORANGE)

i think you're talking about morenos. great outdoor patio with a large beautiful tree as the centerpiece, too bad you can't eat ambience.

i don't get burrell's. mediocre at best.

yes, cat in the custard cup is owned by the el cholo grp. and imho, it is much better than its neighbor, cafe el cholo.

looking for gas grill recs?

weber rules! like jfood, i had disposable charbroils - they worked. but then when i got my genesis it was like night and day. webers are quality products and they make you a better cook.

here is a link to the new lines: http://www.weber.com/bbq/pub/grill/20...

welcome to oc! looking fwd to reading about your dining experiences here.

btw taps may have a good brunch but skip it for dinner. while you're at it, drive on by the summit house too. (sorry whills)

give following a try:
gabbi's mexican kitchen in orange (s of the orange circle)
cat and the custard cup in guadalahabra
claro's italian mkt in guadalahabra (good sandwiches)
red eye coffee in placentia (best baklava but coffee too light for me)
ye olde ship in fullerton for the fish n chips and english pub setting
luigi's d'italia in anaheim for down to earth italian

GOOD PRIME RIB IN LA

i agree w/jase. the food at the summit house is mediocre and not worth the money. pretentious atmosphere. lawrys is much better than the summit house.

not sure if they still serve prime rib but i enjoy dining at the cat and the custard cup in guadalahabra, they have a website but it's awful. it's part of the el cholo restaurant group.

best national chain grocery for usda beef? [moved from L.A. board]

thanks all, great postings... based on geography, costco looks like the best choice for me.

remember when we can buy a side of beef from gemco (or was it fedco?).

best national chain grocery for usda beef? [moved from L.A. board]

i don't have a hows, bristol farms or whole foods close to me.

i do however have ralphs, albertsons, henrys and stater brothers close-by. costco and sams club are also choices.

which one has the best grade of beef?

thanks

stinky boo board

carved the beautifully cooked and moist turkey on my new boo board yesterday... but in my hurry, forgot about the mineral oil pretreatment.

now it's stained and stinky.

tried hot water and soap solution and let dried. didn't work.
tried vinegar solution and let dried. didn't work.

next is lemon and salt but need to go to the store for a lemon. any other thoughts?

thanks!

Not blown away by my blue chimay

thanks for suggesting the different socal locales.

i've tried whole foods in tustin, bevmos in orange and brea to no avail. but i placed my email onto the email notification when they receive it in.

i did pick up some ommegang from whole foods though. good stuff.

Recs for Organic or Biodynamic Wines?

the heller estate wines produces a good wine that happens to be organic. this carmel valley winery has been certified 100% organic and make some good and interesting wines.

Rotisserie for Weber Silver B Grill

i have one of these. it's ok, pricey but built solidly.
i don't like how the frequent re-tightening of the thumb screws due to meat shrinkage - after awhile it hurts the fingers.

by the way, i can't unscrew the motor spindle off, don't want to force it and scratch up the pretty metal, any ideas?

lead crystal / stemware are not safe!

if lead is toxic and why is it ok to have lead in our stemware and other glass vessels? you pay more for this lead content and is the clarity and sparkle really worth it?

it is known that lead crystal leaches or dissolves when in contact with acidic beverages such as wine or fruit juices.
