Downtown Jacksonville Restaurant Recommendations?

Hi!

My parents live in Jacksonville, and my siblings and I are going to get them some concert tickets for Christmas and would like to get them a gift certificate for a fairly nice dinner as well. Since the concert will be downtown, we figure it would be most convenient to find a restaurant for them around the downtown area as well (or Riverside, Avondale, San Marco, etc.). As for taste, they are not too brave in trying new things and an Italian restaurant, Steak house, etc. type of place would probably be most fitting (vs. say Indian food, Thai, etc.). We are also thinking around $100 for a two-person meal.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! I know Ruth's Chris is downtown, but would like to try something besides that location if possible!

THANK YOU!!
:)

Just moved to Tampa-- recommend some restaurants

WOW! Thanks for all the great suggestions! I can't wait to try them all out! We tried the Mediteranian restaurant-- Byblos-- the other day. It was pretty good and I loved the atmosphere, although my husband complained that they just gave us a big plate of meat and that was it. I thought the garlic paste that went with my kabobs was so wonderful-- I want to figure out how to make it myself! And the sesame/vinegar(?) dipping sauce for the flatbread was so different and good too!
I'll post as we try out your suggestions! :)

Just moved to Tampa-- recommend some restaurants

Hi there!
My husband and I just moved to the Tampa Bay area (South Tampa to be exact). I love to explore and I'm eager to try some of the great food around here! (Within a 20-30 minute radius). I would appreciate any and all recommendations, but am especially interested in less expensive options for dinner (e.g., $20 or less per entre) and cheap places for lunch as well. And anything that is specially local to Tampa would be great too!
I look forward to seeing what you have to recommend!
Thanks!

Latin/ Venezuelan/ Cuban Eats??

Hi there!

I recently ate at an out of town restaurant that served "Latin" food that I LOVED! I am hoping to find a local place that has similar cuisine (e.g., plantains, empanadas, adobo seasoning, etc.). I live in Columbia/Ellicott City just south of Baltimore and am hoping to find somewhere relatively nearby with a Latin/ Venezuelan/ Cuban flavor...

THANKS!!

Weekend Boston Trip- Name 5 affordable MUST VISIT restaurants!

Hi there!
Well, we returned from our Boston trip-- THANK YOU to all who made recommendations! We made it to Durgin Park for lunch (pot roast and indian pudding were AMAZING! I want to make my own pudding now!), Orinoco for dinner (WONDERFUL! My favorite meal-- so unique and delicious! And the owner was so nice! Now I am looking for a local Venezualen/ Latin restuarant around my hometown!). Also had Tratoria Toscana for dinner one night and a cannoli from Mike's Pastry's. My husband and I found our pasta dishes at Tratoria Toscana to be delicious! But at the same time, here in Baltimore, we have a Little Italy area that has italian restaurants that are comparably delicious. We didn't get to hit up the other places on our list, but sometimes, we were just too hungry to walk in circles and figure out the T rides to find a place.... Found a restaurant called Charley's on Newbury street that had a pretty good brunch on Saturday... But then again, we were STARVING! :) Overall, we had delicious food thanks to your suggestions and actually did not have to wait at all at any of the restaurants!

Columbia/Ellicott City Dining? We need new places!

Hi there,

My husband and I live in the Columbia/Ellicott City area of Maryland (basically at route 100 and 29 in Dorsey's Search) and often eat out on the weekends. We both work in downtown Baltimore, thus, unfortunately, we often do not feel like driving back downtown to eat. We have found a handful on "non-chain" restaurants that we like around here (e.g., Iron Bridge Wine, Zapata's Mexican, Dimitri's Greek, Donna's ,etc.), but was wondering if there were any other places to eat that we should try...

Can anyone recommend any good to great restaurants within a 15-20 minute driving radius from the Dorsey Search area (e.g. route 29 and 100)??? We are also unfortunately pretty poor and try to spend under $50 total for a meal out for two (for two entrees and sodas basically). "Non-chain" restaurants are preferred, but honestly, at this point, we would be willing to try a chain restaurant that was considered pretty good bang for the buck that maybe we aren't used to (we are from Florida originally)! ;)

Thanks for any ideas!!!

Weekend Boston Trip- Name 5 affordable MUST VISIT restaurants!

Thanks for all of the suggestions!!! Sounds like there a so many places, the hard part will be narrowing them down! Trattoria Toscana and Durgin Park keep popping up, so I think those are definates!

To answer some of your questions, we are coming from Baltimore, but used to live in Florida... Also, I am not tied to price necessarily, but simply don't want to spend ALL of our money on eating... Of course, if it is more expensive in general to eat in Boston, then so be it- we will dish out the cash! ;) And if a certain place is worth the splurge (within reason), then we are willing to pay. We really just want some suggestions for really good food, especially places that are unique to Boston or classic New England fare, rather than relying on just tourist traps or places the concierge recommends to everyone.

Keep the suggestions coming!
:)

Thanks for the suggestions! For the splurge- probably around $40 per entree... (Basically, want to stay under $100 for the meal out for both of us, not including alcohol, of course.)

Weekend Boston Trip- Name 5 affordable MUST VISIT restaurants!

Hi there!

I am new to ChowHound and so excited to have found it!

My husband and I are visiting Boston this weekend and want to take in as much authentic Boston as we can, including food! Since we only have 2 days and somewhat of a sparse budget, I am looking for some recommendations of where to eat out while there...

***If you could name 5 places to eat (lunch and/or dinner) that is no more than around $20 or less per entree, what you would you recommend???***
Also, if we wanted to splurge one night for a great dinner (which, for us would be no more than $40 per person), where should we go?

Of note, we are staying at the Westin, Copley Place, but could take the T anywhere it goes or walk a few blocks or so. Also, type of food doesn't necessarily matter, but we love Italian, Mexican, seafood, "American," or will try anything too!

THANKS for ANY and ALL suggestions!
