Is the weekend lunch wait still bad at Momofuku?

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately we ended up going to Dos Caminos, which is about as Mexican as Mother Theresa. Oh well, next time.

Is the weekend lunch wait still bad at Momofuku?

Hey everyone,

Thinking of going to Ssam bar on Sunday with a party of 5 early on but we have an appointment afterwards - should we pick someplace else or is there a good chance we'll get in? I was there for lunch a few weeks ago and it didn't seem too busy but it was a weekday.

If there's usually a long wait - any reccs in the neighborhood? Hearth across the street?

Thanks,

Best Lunch Exclusive Dishes?

Hey folks,

I have a few days off from the office this week/next and that gives me the opportunity to try afternoon eats I usually cant get to.

So what're the best dishes/restos that are only available for lunch? Right now I have the burger at Peter Luger's (served till 3:45) but I'd love to hear about others.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,
AR

Great Fried Fish Sandwiches

^ seconded. Thanks for the advice everyone!

Also, Alla Spina has a fish BLT sort of sandwich, it's not the traditional battered/crusted fish but it's still pretty great.

food and drinks near Union Transfer?

Everything everyone just said. Prohibition, the Institute, Sazon, Jose's on 10th just below SG. You could even walk to Route 6 or Alla Spina if you show up early, they're about the same distance as Chinatown and much closer than Silk City.

Ahh I have been meaning to check out Ippolito's for so many reasons (especially the lobster taco) but I needed a rec for dinner with a friend tonight! Thanks so much for the suggestion and the reminder to hit Ito's though!

Good Chinese restaurants in Philly

David' Mai Lai Wah on 10th and Race serves some amazing salt and pepper squid, the rest of the menu is great too, it's the de facto restaurant for friends whenever we're in Ctown

Any suggestions? Preferably a bar/resto somewhere between NoLibs and South Philly. I thought Khyber would have a catfish po'boy but it's only shrimp and oysters, I think Standard Tap has one but that place is a little blah... any and all locations appreciated!

Dinner next Saturday w/ 5 Temple University Freshmen Women

I would skip Modo Mio for being too small/non lively, Route 6 and Osteria will break the bank with 7 people and they cater to an older crowd.

I tihnk El Vez would fit the bill here perfectly: food that freshman students will like, a Stephen Starr atmosphere in a cool part of the city and reasonable prices, especially for share-able appetizers like nachos etc.it's large, fun, not too far from campus and there's a photobooth in the back, score!

In terms of BYO.... eh... honestly if you aren't drinking BYO's can end up being more expensive since the cost of food is higher, whereas other restaurants have lower food prices to compensate for expensive alcohol. Since you won't be buying any of the later, it works out in your favor to go to a non-BYO, in my opinion.

Late Night Sushi Friday Night

Ended up at Raw precisely for that reason (took a walk to Rittenhouse and stopped next door for Capogiro) but the outdoor patio was an unexpected bonus. Sushi was meh, good not great, but that's sushi in Philly for the most part really.

Thanks for all the help everyone!

Hmmm Raw is so expensive that I might as well spend an extra $10 pp and go to Morimoto, right? No?

Late Night Sushi Friday Night

11pm would be cutting it a little close...

It's worth mentioning that Fuji Mountain is open until super late every day of the week, and until crazy o'clock on the weekends, but I always end up there so was looking for a change.

Soft shell crabs in Philly

Yeah I figured, hence the open call for fresh ones. Sang Kee usually puts a sign up in their window saying that they have them, but I'm not sure if they have yet. Might take a walk over tonight to check, but if anyone already has please fill us in!

Soft shell crabs in Philly

Does anywhere in Chinatown have them? I know David's has them on the menu, but David's has them on the menu all year round, so I'm skeptical...

Late Night Sushi Friday Night

Hey Everyone,

I'm planning to get sushi with friends in center city at ~10.30pm on Friday night, can anyone suggest a sushi place that's open this late? I know Morimoto is open 'til midnight, and it's a possibility, but are there any others? Shiroi Hana etc seem to close at 10.30pm, I don't wanna be the guy who stumbled in five minutes before closing. Zama is open till 11...

Black Forest Cake

Hey folks,

I was wondering which restaurants/cafes (in the city) served a good black forest cake? I know Brauhaus Schmidt would be the obvious suggestion, but the cake there was dry and bland.

I'm imagining a cake that's boozy with lots of fresh cream and a giant kirsch dipped cherry. Any and all suggestions, appreciated, many thanks,

Late Night Happy Hour Menus

Hey folks,

I was wondering which bars/restaurants did late night happy hours for food in center city.

I know adsum has a 'free food' thing (has anyone been?) from 10pm and Barbuzzo has a great $10 chefs specials menu from 10:30pm.

But outside of that... Are there any other places? There must be... I heard Zavino next door to Barbuzzo does something but couldn't get info. I know Sugar Mom's in Old City does half price drafts from 10pm to 11pm-ish but I don't think the food is any cheaper.

Any and all ideas appreciated, many thanks,

Saturday Late Lunch

Thanks for the suggestions! Unfortunately I called Amada and they'e closed for lunch after 2:30, they just serve some cheese and drinks at the bar between then and dinner.

We might just do a late late lunch at 5pm, really have been meaning to try JG Domestic

Saturday Late Lunch

Hey folks,

I am beginning to realize there is a dearth of lunch options on the weekends. Some places are open until 2pm and then re-open at 5, but which places are open in between?

I wanted to do Amis, and JG Domestic, and Zahav and Koo Zee Doo and Meritage but they're all closed for that time. I know Supper is open but I've done it to death, and Farmicia is open but it seems a little bland. Places like Parc and Village Whiskey are usually swamped, as is Honey's.

The only place I can think of really is Garces Trading Company... which is cool, but I've been there before. is there anything else similar? Preferably center center city, or close to Fairmount is fine too.

Many thanks,
AR

Horizons?

barryg knows his stuff, but I'm going to say I was kind of unimpressed with Horizons. It's okay, overpriced. I would only go there again if my friend was vegan, but if they were vegetarian there are a bunch of places I would go first, like Amis and Osteria are both very veggie friendly, and can probably accommodate vegans.

best fish taco in philadelphia

Distrito.

I don't believe in "best this" or "best that" but their fish tacos are divine, everyone I've spoken to about them has enjoyed them - crisp, fresh, not greasy, not heavy, perfect contrast of textures, I could go on...

You should check out the bar downstairs, that way you can try them, grab a beer, watch the play-offs and just chill without having to reserve tables/splurge/dress up for a whole meal upstairs.
