"regionally special/quirky." it is unique to austin and has been highlighted on several Best eats shows..sooooooooo sometimes the "been there" factor counts... Cafe Beignet on Royal has better beignets but you can bet a visitor to New Orleans is going to want to go to Cafe Du Monde

of course Mrs Ps Electric Cock is good too...

And the very Unique experience of Marias Taco Express on Sunday morning

ok.. how about I find it neither creative or charming to spend 6.00 on a sliced apple placed on dish. Nor is a tough skirt steak thrown on a plate with five bland potatoes deemed fantastic and ground breaking to me. There are several others who feel the emperor has no clothes,, as for my example of a tv show I suppose I could have pulled out a more lofty example... however, if you read here regularly you will find my opinion is rather well respected.

DaiDUe- isnt all that it is cracked up to be... think of the episode of Two Broke Girls when they went to the hipster restaurant and the waitress was named York

I would do Ciscos for breakfast---it is divey but historic and good

Hit Odd Duck ( they are up for James Beard)
food trucks that are weird and quirky : The mighty cone, Gordoughs

Dont forget to take your picture at the famous Greeting from Austin Mural down on first and annie which you see in every Austin montage ever filmed.

Are you a food hoarder ?

I am a jar fanatic too!! a lot of it is because I buy in bulk bins and need something to put it in when I get home.. but i like the way it looks so clean and organized

Alex G has all her spices in blue jars in the kitchen at Butter it looks so lovely

ahahhhhhaaaa when I saw your title I clicked to say I live in AUstin waiting in line at Franklins is a sport...

I waited 20 minutes for a Lobster roll... and 40 at East side Kings once..
but most often good planning cuts down on wait time

5 Times to Say "No Thank You" and 3 Things to Do When You Hear It — How to Be a Grownup

This has always been one of my peeves. I thought it was because I was young...I guess it is not. "No, Thank you." seems like an obvious complete sentence. Yet, I always get the third degree. However, I do not mind a polite "can I get you something else?" as a follow up.

Austin for 1st time this weekend-recs

Not to be mean.. but if he is a"foodie" and has failed to find good restaurants here he has a rather shallow pallet or simply has not looked. We have James Beard award winners here just like the big fancy city as well as humble bbq that has brought people from across oceans to try. SO what is good? There are sooooooooo many.

does silence on an rsvp mean they aren't coming ?

it sounds like you got a response.. it just wasnt what you wanted to hear... For some reason your side of the family just isnt that into your celebrating your extensive remodeling and sons birthday.. and "free food"... this isnt about RSVPs something else is happening in the family dynamic... and your dads "our culture" comment may have been a hint.

Barley Swine vs. Qui

for a party atmosphere I would say Qui..their craft cocktails and hipster slickness....
for food I would say Barley Swine--or Odd duck

However.. can I throw Swifts Attic into the ring? they have amazing service for special stuff like this and can make you guys feel like royalty....

What are you Cooking for Valentine's Day?

Lol- I'm 14- I've done a couple parties for my circle.. as we are getting older it is getting more fun.. before homecoming none of the guys could afford an expensive dinner out so I did a four course formal diner..and brunch is becoming a tradition twice a month

What are you Cooking for Valentine's Day?

here is my brunch.. the photos didnt turn out very good,, but we had a great time... The crepes which you cant see very well were the big hit.. the frittata cane out a bit dry.. but the guys loved the potatoes...we had a great time...I put "conversation hearts" on the table with questions which we took turns answering to help the ones who were not use to sitting around without their phones.
