Best Sushi in Lower Westchester

I highly agree with Nanase, Azuma, and Fujinoya. I frequent Azuma the most (usually once a month or so) but recently they've cut back and don't have certain fish available. I find the quality at all 3 to be the best. I was not a fan of Sushi Mike's when I went-I found it average and overpriced. Most other neighborhood places in Westchester are not on par with these. I tried Kyo last week when Fujinoya was closed for lunch and wasn't impressed.

Wok & Roll County Line Rd. Jackson?

I'm attending a party there on August 12th so hopefully it's decent!

Wedding Venues in Northern NJ or Rockland county with great food

I had my reception at Seasons in November and it was fantastic. The cocktail hour was amazing, and I didn't get to try everything since I was in the bridal suite. The attendant was fantastic and brought us a lot of food to try, and we were stuffed. The dinner was fantastic as well. Our guests couldn't believe how much food there was and how good everything tasted. I'm a bit of a food snob and have been to parties where the food is mass produced and terrible. It's not true of Seasons.

Delivery options in Tuckahoe/Crestwood/NE Yonkers?

Yeah, i rely on Azuma in Hartsdale for sushi and have given up on delivery, but for Chonese delivery, I use Jade Spoon in Scarsdale. I went to Pagoda once and found it authentic. Haven't been there in a few months. I used to order from East Bamboo as they are within walking distance from me, but I prefer Jade Spoon.

Best sushi in Manhattan

I've actually stopped following this thread because it's quite tedious. I've eaten at Yasuda twice and it was absolutely sublime. In fact, I'm returning next month again, and I'm proud to spend my money there. I haven't tried any of the other places mentioned but I'm happy with Yasuda. Glad someone agrees they need to stop bashing it. And of course I'm gettint at least 2 pieces of uni!

What did you have? I was very underwhelmed by their sushi and beef negimaki. It's unfortunate bc I absolutely love sushi and they're so close, so they'd be me go-to place if the sushi was good.

Where have you had better uni in Manhattan? It 's crap at any place in Westchester or Rockland County that offers it.

Food processors....Kitchenaid KFP1333 vs. Cuisinart FP-12/FP-14

I own a Kitchenaid stand mixer, blender & food processor and i love all 3. I don't use the food processor too often, but i do love it & it works well and is quite powerful. The base is heavy, which is important when you're filling the bowl a lot.

decent bagels in lower hudson valley?

If you are ever in rockland county/Suffern, try Bagel Boys across from the airmont diner. They are a bit overpriced, but I've never tasted a bagel quite like theirs. There's a readon they are packed and moved to a larger location a few months ago.

Yasuda all the way. I've had omakase there twice and it is worth every penny. The uni is amazing and no other restaurant can equal the uni. Everything is fantastic, but it's hard to find good uni.

Freeze bacon?

I've frozen bacon plenty of times. What i like to do is place a small piece of either wax/parchment between the slices so i can pull out only what i need for recipes so I don't end up eating too much delicious bacon at once. Double wrap in foil and it will be fine.

Delivery options in Tuckahoe/Crestwood/NE Yonkers?

Having lived in Eastchester for just under a year now, I agree that it's hard to find places to order take out that are actually good. My favorite chinese take out is Jade Garden in Scarsdale. The prices are a little more than the average neighborhood place, but the quality of the ingredients and preparation is worth it. I'd definitely skip the David King that opened in Eastchester. I ordered sushi from here against my better judgement, and the delivery person couldn't find my address, thanks to the inept front desk person who took my order. The sushi was adequate. I'd make the trip to Azuma in Hartsdale or Nanase in White Plains instead of ordering take out sushi. For Italian, I like Roma's (the inside is dated but the food is good).

Wedding Venues in Northern NJ or Rockland county with great food

Ahh, I assumed the upstairs is bigger/grander lol. Yeah, I live in Westchester and a lot of nicer places around here are $120+ pp, which I think is nuts honestly. I want a nice wedding but I don't want to start married life in debt!

Wedding Venues in Northern NJ or Rockland county with great food

Hi, I didn't see the upstairs room. My guest list is around 80-85 people, so he showed us the downstairs which is plenty of room. I'm being charged for 75 adults minimum (obviously if I have more, they'll charge) but they have to charge for 75 adults regardless because that's their minimum. After that is met, kids 12 and under are half price if they occupy a seat (and vendors are half price after that too). So, people with 2 and 3 year olds are going to have a high chair :) I know what you mean about kids of a certain age, but he told me if they occupy a seat, they count, so even if really little ones are coming, they're getting a high chair because I'm not paying like $50 for them to take 3 bites of food. Also, I don't believe there will be a lot of tables and chairs during my cocktail hour. I know we get the whole downstairs which is a big room and then the hallway by the fireplace outside of the reception room. I know there will be some tables, but I'm not sure how many. I'll find out when I go in September to set my menu.

I'm having my ceremony at a church, so I can't help you with the cost for that. I know most places do charge a ceremony fee which varies. They have to set up and dismantle the chairs and stuff, etc so I guess they count the effort for that.

Wedding Venues in Northern NJ or Rockland county with great food

Hi Sadsam,

The pricing sounds about right. My wedding is off -season, and it's also in the afternoon, and I'm having under 100 people, so they're giving me the small wedding package. It's $85 pp for cocktail hour with martini bar and hot/cold displays, and reception, cake, and open bar. I didn't add any extras, so for you to get extras for $110 pp and up is accurate for a place like that. I was surprised I was able to get a price like that because a lot of other higher end places charge more. Let me know if you decide to have it there! I can't wait for mine.

Wedding Venues in Northern NJ or Rockland county with great food

Congrats! I booked my November 2011 reception at Seasons. I think it's beautiful and elegant, plus they were willing to accomodate a 1-6 pm reception, whereas the Venetian said they have a strict 12-5 pm policy due to evening events (so I didn't even see the Venetian). I didn't taste the food at Seasons but I've heard a lot of good things about it, plus there's a lot of good reviews online. I also looked at Biagio's based on a recommendation, and I wasn't impressed with either the food or the smaller banquet room they showed us. Good luck on your search!

How was your wedding reception, if I may ask? I too am looking in Rockland/Northern NJ and am considering both Season's and the Venetian. Please let me know!

Thanks.

Which Farmer's Feast menu at Blue Hill at Stone Barn

I finally got a reservation at Blue Hill at Stone Barn (Westchester) for my fiancee's birthday, but I'm not sure if we should go with the 5 or 8 course Farmer's Feast. Which is a better option? Obviously we'd get to try more courses with the 8 course, but I've ready a few online reviews that it's too much food. I want to get the best value for my money and am not sure if it's worth the difference in price. Any suggestions? I want to try as much as I can, but I don't want to leave disgustingly full.

Any good canned or frozen crab out there? [Moved from Home Cooking]

I recently read this and decided to try the Phillips brand crab meat located near the seafood counter. I did think it made a good crab cake, and it was $6 for 8 oz for the claw crab meat. The other varieties are more money, but overall, I was pleased with the quality of the crab meat and would use it again.
