Ebisuya Market

I think tonight was sort of a preview. They were only open from 6-8pm. Will be open tomorrow all day. Great place!

Mystic Coffee Roaster

I also noticed this and was very excited. We really need an upscale coffee house in Medford Square like Diesel. I'll be keeping tabs on the opening info.

Recession Busters

It would be nice to have a list of prix fixe dinner or lunch options that is current, not months old. Appetizers just don't draw me out to aplace in this weather, especially when the drinks are still $15

Rendezvous, Central Square: highly recommend

This is a great reminder. The food is always great there and unusual, too. Thanks a lot!

Molecular gastrotomy: where to experience it?

Oringer is the only one with actual El Bulli experience and Clio is, in fact, where Ferran Adria, owner of El Bulli, dined during his recent visit to Harvard.

Molecular gastrotomy: where to experience it?

It's actually caled molecular cooking now.

Holiday Amuse Bouche

willing to share ideas? Can be sweet or savory.

Petits fours recs

Thanks to everyone for the advice--I totally appreciate it. Seems like Formaggio will be my go to place since it is closest. The price is killer but quality is definitely worth it.

Stonewall Kitchen Holiday Jam

I like the roasted jam and especially the Farmhouse Chutney. Anything else I have ever tried as far as fruit jams have been just short of medocre to totally blah. I mean, Smuckers is better. Seriously.

Ferran Adria at Harvard

Should Picasso have given up painting because there was hunger in the world? He is clearly NOT in it for the money and had none of the wardrobe and make-up, entourage-surrounding entrance that some celebrity chefs have. I believe he is just a sincere artist. He also noted that at El Bulli it takes a staff of 70 to serve 50 diners per night. It is hardly the US Mint!

Ferran Adria at Harvard

I got there at about five to claim a spot in row 6. I had been waiting for a month for this. Absolutely fascinating. Adria is the Picasso of food, an entirely new way of looking at and approaching it. He is part mad chemist and part kid in a toy store, experimenting with the textures, flavors, colors and shapes. I was mesmerized. It was also really interesting to see and hear from someone who is going places with food that there are really no definitions for, grasping to define what he actually does, i.e. that El Bulli is "not a restaurant" and using the analogy of the invention of a whole new language. I loved the opening video with the two diners tasting the food at El Bulli - showing just the reactions on their faces. Amazing. I agree the event could have been much better planned, however. You would think Harvard would be used to internationally reknown lecturers visiting!

Need a neighborhood and restaurant to explore on Wednesday afternoon/evening

Vanille at 70 Charles for an afternoon coffe and fresh pastry with real euro ambiance

Petits fours recs

Prcey as in what price range? At least they are in the geographic area I am looking for and not previously frozen.

Petits fours recs

Looking for well-made petits fours with excellent quality ingredients for a special holiday dinner. Please - none of the waxy, shortening-based crap from any supermarkets. Has anyone seen or found the really good quality stuff?

Good lattes and comfy seating like Diesel?

I have given up on Diesel. Too crowded, too dirty and and one too many obnoxious patron. I am in love, however, with Crema Cafe in Harvard Square.

fun, hip restaurants

I second Gaslight or maybe Sel de la Terre at the new Mandarin Oriental-very nice but not overpriced.

11/10/08 Amazing Turkey Meatloaf Deal at Whole Foods

Don't leave us hanging opinionated! Which location?

Weekday Brunch Near MIT?

There is no such thing as a weekday brunch unless you are staying at a hotel. There is no demand for it so restaurants won't do it. There are plenty of breakfast places but good luck finding a mid week brunch. It is anathema to the restaurant business.

Value Dining

I actually wrote a review of Green Tomato II on my blog last week. I just tried Alfresco's, right around the corner. Great prices. Marinated, grilled amb tips with grilled veggies over a platter of rice pilav, sald (incredible house dressing), a basket of rolls and two dipping sauces AND a soft drink. Grand total: $8.95!!! This was for lunch but you can't beat that and the food was great. That will be this week's review!!!

scones, where do you buy the most delicious ones?

As someone who was a pastry chef in a bakery for years I can say, hands down, Petsi Pies in Cambridge is by far the best scone in the area.

Value Dining

Suddenly, ALL the restaurants are opening up these type menus. Thanks everyone. I am wondering if anyone has heard of other new value menues being offered?

Value Dining

Let's face it we are in the midst of what I am calling the "New Austerity". With that in mind I had dinner at The Green Tomato II in Davis this wek and it absolutely beats anyone for value. Casual, family fare, clean, friendly, good service and excellent food for the price. It's like a cleaner, friendlier, upscale "Mike's" with better food. I had the fried scallops-very flavorful, with sides of fries or rice and coleslaw. Everything is fresh and the portion is hefty but not overbearing. Any other recs for local value dining? No frills but great food and service.

doughnuts?

Where is Lyndells?

Mandarin Oriental Dining

Has anyone tried any of the new dining options at the Manadarin Oriental yet. I've booked a client lunch for Thursday at Sel de la Terre and am wondering if we'd be better off at the State Street location. Thanks.

looking for German pastries

I would second Danish Patry House for more authentic euro pastries and breads. The baker is actually from Denmark. The German cookies are very good.

Looking for a French Bistro

I'd recommend Sandrine's in Harvard Square. From the moment you step through the faux Metro doorway you will really feel as though you are in a Parisian Bistro.

Armenian Rice Pilav

Thank you so much. I guess it really is the vermicelli that makes the difference!

Armenian Rice Pilav

Growing up in Belmont I remember having authentic Armenian rice pilav at a friend's house when I was very young and loved it. Any idea where I can get the ingredients for this now? The Near East mix is just not the same thing at all.

CiaoBella gelato/sorbet giveaway - Sun H Sq

They will also be there on Sunday 4-7pm, to coincide with RiverSing. You also get a coupon for a free pint when you buy a pint. Awesome stuff!

Recommendations for Affordable dinner options in Cambridge

Flat Patties in Harvard Square (The Garage) is a great value and the pulled pork sandwiches are good. Always filled with Harvard students on a budget. I like The Upper Crust for the slice of the day. Temple Bar on Mass Ave is not excruciatingly expensive for dinner. The cubano at Chez Henri is definitely dinner tonite and lunch the next day. I've done a lot of postings on this area I can't even remember. My blog is:
