daveyd - i agree with the $15 cab ride to Spring mtn ( chinatown ) - so many great spots including some "non-asian" spots, too.

Pizza in Vegas
if sticking to the Strip, Rao's serves pizza at lunch time , get a side of meatballs ( polpette ) and life is good !
I believe Metro delivers to the Strip ( might be the ellis island location, can't remember, it's been awhile )
happy eating !

Vegas—coolest food shops?
I have to give a shout out to the new supermarket in the southwest part of town - glazier's
http://www.glaziersfoodmarketplace.com/
i eat out so much that i probably hit a grocery store only once / month - Glazier's has me wanting to visit more often - the deli is very good; a large s meats and seafood counter yet i've only purchased their homemade sausages - the breakfast sausage with cinnamon works for me ! I've only walked 1/2 the store. hope it's a success !

Trip Suggestions? (Las Vegas)
Missmoo - if you're trying to keep the taxi costs down you may want to re-think Hash house a go go - not as far as rosemary's but close. My guess from Four Seasons - at least $40 round trip. If you do go, i doubt you'll need snacks at the Verandah in the afternoon. Trying to think of a brunch alternative - how about Bouchon ? Mon ami gabi ?

In Vegas for a layover. Have two hours. Ideas for a dive/watering hole serving good food.
since your on a red eye - don't worry about the time it takes to get thru security - unless it's a sunday night flight - the classics ?
pieros, golden steer already mentioned - personally, i think piero's is waay overpriced for what you get .
casa di amore, batistas - both average italian places
pamplemousse - old school french - i like the place but it can be hit/miss
panevino - close to airport - decent, but also a little pricey.
bootlegger bistro - has an old school feel to it but relatively new.
Happy eating !

Cheap Eats In Vegas?
you can walk to stripburger - for a decent higher end burger - not as good as burger bar, and it's still a little toasty outside ( all patio eating ) already mentioned baba reeba also a short walk.
drive down spring mtn and you have 20 + places that have decent food that meet your budget - japanese, chinese, thai, vietnamese and a few other non-asian places ( argentina and british )

Yet more "40th birthday in Las Vegas" advice for foodies from Minneapolis
check the threads about chinatown - a place for decent food and fun eats - hot n juicy crawfish - please dress casual. either ichiza or Raku for some really good japanese. China mama has my fav dish - fish filet in chili oil - yummy ! How about lobster at $8.88 / pound ? go to kj kitchen and eat it up ! Several decent dim sum spots - ping pang pong, orchid's.

Las Vegas off strip bar food
i used to live near mcmullen's - love their potato chips ! good place. crown and anchor is worth a visit. village pub is ok by me gotta try the new bar/restaurant on rainbow near trop used to be hurricane's - that name escapes me - the memory is fading fast ! another pub cool to have a pint - sean patrick's .
Chowhound Post
Las Vegas Chinatown-- Let's thoroughly review it
you may want to call caesar's to see if seafood harbour has dim sum - i believe it's related to the sea harbour on Rosemead in so cal ( not sure the city - el monte , monterey park ? ) - i haven't been to the so cal location since last summer - but it's one of my so cal faves.
anyways, i keep planning to hit the Caesar's location to see if they have dim sum, just haven't done it yet .
i believe you can still catch the shuttle to gold coast from bills gambling hall ( used to be barbary coast ) - so you might want to hit ping pang pong - i go there at least once / month , i actually think it's passed orchid's as my fav spot - but i like both .

Las Vegas off strip bar food
kilroys is a great spot for the tasty burger, some nice salt/pepper fries and an ice cold one. a little farther west - just off charleston - i believe on durango ( or is it fort apache ) - i like martini's - the kobe sliders work for me, with a heap of home made chips and of course, if you are a martini fan .... they are on restaurant.com and usually have some decent martini specials ( funny thing is , i don't drink martini's )
how about the mexican place just a little farther up on mt charelston - again, name escapes me - i believe on or near the corner of rampart and mt. C - they usually have 25 cent tacos during happy hour - of course a lil on the smaller side , but come on - a quarter !!!
how about big dogs on sahara ? - also have sliders and what surprise - 'dogs !
happy eating !

What's Fun and Fabulous in Vegas?
off the strip but not too far away - hot n juicy crawfish - something about rolling up you sleeves, putting the bib on and a bag of crawfish and/or shrimp and/or crab dropped in front of you in a bag and you go to town - and let me tell ya - good eats ! especially if you go with the spicy stuff ! a couple cold beers, alot of paper towels - all good !

Mack Ribz - Las Vegas
i drive by there every day - i guess they finally opened - there was an "opening soon" sign plastered on the side wall for quite awhile. The strip mall actually had an italian restaurant on the corner ( name escapes me - old, old school place ) that burned down - they built it back up but without the italian place.
Gumbo ?!?! i'm there ! Catfish to compete with catfish alley - i'm there again !

Las Vegas: ? re Aburiya Raku
well said eric - as far as it being outstanding, that's for you to judge, but i'm sure if you even do a google search you'll find several positive reviews by so called foodie/reviewers - personally, i am a big fan after 6 visits - it's a bi-monthly visit for me.

Imperial Rolls ala Tu Lan in Vegas
sorry - don't know but most of the vietnamese places are within 1-2 miles of each other on spring mtn - suggest nhu lan, dakao, saigon 8, pho so 1, hue thai and the vientamese deli across from nhu lan ( not sure if they are still open ) - you can hit them all in one hour !

Your favorite ice cream in Las Vegas?
dave - you teased me sir !! all morning i'm thinking about ice cream, the address for frozen aces is about 4 miles from my house so i decide, gotta hit the bank today - Pay day ! after which i'll trek over to Aces for some variety. I knew i was in trouble when i was 5 minutes late to the bank . it's 1:05, it's about 105 degrees outside - off to Aces - ok i see the sign, it's in the same shopping center/strip mall as waffles cafe , drive aorund the parking lot - where is this damn place !! i drive around two times - nothing ! ask someone walking into waffles cafe - never heard of it - i point to the sign, they shrug - i cry ! so either it's in a hidden location within the strip mall or it's closed . i settle for a slurpee ... it's a sad day

Corkage Disappointment in Vegas
I recently saw Chef Puck at his Beverly Hills restaurant making the rounds in the dining room - i tell ya, i think he located the fountain of youth - the guy looked great ( not sure how old he is ) and i'll be damned, he did have a nice clean white towel draped over his shoulder !
As to the wine issue - ah heck with it, i'm off to lunch !

Vegas girl's night out
$30 on the Strip ( anything off strip is at least a $10 cab ride ) is very difficult, especially removing the Chains ( like Grand Lux at Venetian/Palazzo )
How about some good 'ol burgers/fries/shakes at BLT Burger or Burger Bar ?
Are you up for some asian food ? There are numerous places on Spring Mtn, thai, japanese vietnamese, chinese, korean, that are worth a try - China Mama, Ichiza, Yun Nan Garden Dong TIng Spring, etc come to mind.
Should be able to keep it under $30 at Pasta Mia, Ferraro's or Nora's for Italian ( all on Flamingo - within a few miles of each other )
French - Josette's Bistro - again on Flamingo - share an app and i think you're under $30/person ( close ) if Josette is there - she's a character - food is decent. Across from Josette's - the Fat Greek - a little on the casual side but the food is good.

vegas mexican and other off-strip must-eats?
Capriotti's is top notch. The Bobbie is probably at the top of the heap - yes, it's roasted turkey, some cranberry, some dressing - thanksgiving in a roll ! Personally, i opt out on the cranberry, add extra mayo. a nice shake of salt and some swiss cheese - it's ALL GOOD !
That being said, if i was coming into town, wouldn't call it a destination but if you plan on any off strip tourism ( red rocks, hoover dam, mt charleston, etc ) i strongly encourage you to pack a capriotii's sammie in the 'ol picnic basket ! but be careful, it's toasty out here so don't let the mayo-infused sammies sit too long.
Happy Eating !
Btw - for a nice sammie, if on the Strip - might i suggest the Lobster club at Postrio - good stuff !

Henderson and South Highlands areas in LV: any chow places?
give m resort a try - the buffet is decent, the steakhouse is above average, the coffee shop is better then most, the oster bar needed to work out a few kinks, the bake shop is also worth a looksy.
The eastern corridor is taking a beating lately - starting at the fwy up to about silverado the closings include - the melting pot, steeles, white chocolate grill, makino, la golisita, most of the ice cream spots, BJ's just opened ( big deal ) the thai place ( name escapes me , is still open - it's ok. I like grimaldi's across the street. Someone told me that re tapas was closing but i haven't been by to verify.
Settebello kinda let me down last visit but they tried hard to fix the problem - pizza undercooked if you can believe that, they comped me some vino - that was nice.
todd's deserves another visit from me - i've been there twice in the last 2 years - i enjoyed it both visits.
gee, i know there's more but i'm kinda brain dead right now.
happy eating !

Is Burger Stop (Vegas) still open?
good question - i don't think it is - i was in that shopping center a few months back and it looked like the place was closed ( there's a really good mexican food place in the center ) - now that i work on the eastside, i'll drive by there tomorrow and either hit the mexican place, burger stop or the banh mi shop down the road - yummy !!!

Vegas Bar Recs -- Help!
as to view, you've got mix, ghost bar, voodoo lounge, etc - best bet is MIX pre-nite club scene ( before 10 pm - might want to consider around 7 pm for sundown ) - great view - drinks are a little pricey, but you buy a beer, enjoy the view/sunset, the view from the bathroom ( check it out ) then move to the next location.
i enjoy the patio at the fontana lounge at the bellagio - again, drinks are pricey but still in line with the strip, but great view of the water show,
fireside lounge ain't bad but sharing a scorpion - how close is this friend ?!?! lol
are you willing to drive ? there are a few spots in downtown and relatively close to the strip that are worth a looksy including frankie's tiki room, the red room, etc

Vegas Mexican
it was on another site - not one of my best efforts when doing a review - especially no pics.
the interesting thing, after i posted the review, i got an e-mail from the owner apologizing for the incorrect charge for the virgin drink - he offered to buy me an app, a drink or something when i return - i will return just not sure when !
A pleasant surprise. Continuing to reach out to restaurants relatively close to my new home, La Madonna is about 5 miles away -
Nice looking place. Kinda surprised at the location - it's basically a high-end mexican restaurant. To be honest, not sure if there are too many high end places in town. I question the location since it's on the outskirts of town.
Roomie and i started with cocktails - i went with the tangerine mojito. she tried a virgin paloma (a grapefruity drink ) - the mojito was very refreshing ( $9 ) , the paloma ok but damn, $9 for a virgin drink - me no likey that ! server brought a nice warm basket of seasoned tortilla chips with 3 different salsas - they all tasted great !
Started with the tuna appetizer ( $12) - basically a tostada with a crema base then sushi grade ahi tuna - very thin, then a light sauce w/ lime - very good !
Roomie went with the fish tacos ( talapia - $16 ) i tried the chilean sea bass con cilantro ( $28 ) . Both were very good - the portion for the sea bass a little on the small side. I had a cadillac margarita with the sea bass - very good ! we also got a side of sweet corn tamale. the first few bites were excellent - moist, sweet, flavorful. the remaining tamale was a little on the dry side.
I like this place. I'm not one to eat mexican food all that often but for sure, if i'm looking for a higher end mexican place, I'm here !
