Dim Sum at Dragon Dynasty - Could be some of GTA's best!

I did try our siu mai, they were average, bigger and tougher than I generally like them. Highlights for me were the pan-fried cheung fun and fried sticky rice. Char siu bao was good. The dan tart with the cookie crust was horrible. Overly sweet filling and tough dry crust. Service was good.

Fresh yeast in Toronto

I get mine from Lady York on Dufferin south of Lawrence. They sell them in 80-100 gram cubes.

Here are some pics of the dinner I had at Niagara Street Cafe in November. It'll give you a sense of the portions.

Rijstafel / rijsttafel / rijstaffel dinner at Quince

thanks for the recipe!

We didn't get the peanut satay sauce either, I thought they had just substituted the sambal instead.

Rijstafel / rijsttafel / rijstaffel dinner at Quince

Highlights for us were the chicken, the beef and the green beans. Loved the speculaas cake as well. I tried getting the recipe but they wouldn't share ;-) Service was fantastic. Looking forward to the next one.

FresserGuy: we really enjoyed the rijstaffel at Sampurna across from the flower market in Amsterdam. Was there in November and had a lovely meal.

Soma twigs - anyone tried them?

The pistachio one is very good.

Where are you still eating that you were 20 years ago and is still good?

The Ping Gai from Queen Mother. Still loving it 20 years on.

Banh Mi Boys

Agreed! Went yesterday with a friend for lunch and we split the kalbi taco, pork belly steamed bao and the tofu banh mi. Favourite for both of us was the kalbi taco. Tempted to return again this week to sample more before they close this weekend for renovations. They said the renos should be done by Feb. Here's hoping they'll add more seating and reconfigure the space a bit so it's easier to weave through the lineups to get out afterwards.

Salad Creations in the path just east of the St Andrew's subway station has seating for about 20. Sandwich Box on Richmond just west of Bay on street level has about the same amount of seating I think.

Loved those pierogies enough to order another batch for dessert. Yum. Agreed with the pickerel and turkey as highlights. I think the other oysters we had were caraquet from New Brunswick. Service was great. Nice gesture with the next morning cinnamon buns. Will definitely return for another outing.

ISO vegetarian restaurants for lunch & dinner around Kings Cross Station

We ended up having lunch at Nopi and dinner at Beatroot. Nopi was fantastic, will definitely return the next time we're in town. Highlights were the coleslaw/macadamia/mango, cauliflower/ricotta/raisins/capers and pumpkin/chard/manouri tart for my friend & scallops/fennel/apple salsa, broccolini/skordalia/chili oil and pork belly/cassoulet/salsa verde for me. Highly recommend the 15 min walk from Kings Cross to get there!

ISO vegetarian restaurants for lunch & dinner around Kings Cross Station

This hound from Toronto will be meeting up with an old friend coming in on the train a week from Monday. Neither one of us are familiar with the area so any suggestions for a lunch and a dinner place with vegetarian options would be greatly appreciated. Somewhere we can have a leisurely meal would be ideal or any recs for a cafe where they won't mind having us for a few hours. Many thanks in advance!

The brussel sprouts and the broccoli were good. Everything else was meh.

2011 Food and Resto CLOSINGS

It was the location, they said it wasn't working out for them. I told them to send me their new location if they find another spot so I can get my garlic dough knot fix. Had the nodini from Buca the other night and it just wasn't the same :-(

Fantasy Farm reviews

Was there for a wedding recently. The bartender made a fair Caesar. It helped make the dinner palatable. The salad was mediocre, lettuce was wilted, drowned in dressing and served with the smallest sliver of pear. The steak, mini potatoes and steamed veggies were edible but under seasoned. Dessert could've been used for a hockey puck. The ice cream round was so frozen solid that it was entertaining to watch it's consumption. Some people tried cutting it with their dinner knives, some people picked it up with their hands and gnawed on it. Others just abandoned it for more drinks instead. The room was claustrophobic, tables were crammed together, the ceilings are really low and the doorways were even lower (anyone over 5'10 needed to duck). They really need screen doors. The room got so hot with all of the guests in there that they had to prop the doors open for ventilation. Then everyone got eaten by mosquitoes.
