First time bread making.
Nofunlatte, thanks so much for taking the time to post the recipe and blog site. I'll let you know how it goes. Todao, I found a nytimes Mark Bittman article with a no knead recipe that i think I'll try. 6 strand braid is not in my future.

Please do share. Agreed, it is crazy to bake this time of the year, and in Florida no less. I'm going for it anyway. @ipsedixit, I'll look into that. Thanks to both.
First time bread making.
I am broke and on vacation and thought I could use the free time to begin learning to bake bread. I really love challah and brioche but I'm worried they may not be the best beginner breads. Any advice would be welcome. I am not necessarily a beginner in the kitchen, it's just been a while since I've baked.
Jacksonville: breakfast place?
The Beach Hut is great, not traditional southern, but the liquor license makes up for it. I'm pretty sure it is in Jax Beach, definitely not Ponte Vedra, I'm not sure what place meatn3 is referring to, but The Fox is a great diner in Avondale. People line up outside the front door from 7 until about 12 Saturdays and Sundays. You can order breakfast or lunch all day and eat for less than $7. The Metro Diner in San Marco is another great spot.
Jacksonville?
Sangria House and French Pantry are both great. Make sure you have time to wait at FP, they usually take a while but it's worth it. I would skip Al's, it's mostly reheated frozen food.
Local Gems on Amelia Island?
29 South is newer place that is delish. They serve alot of local meat and produce. I think they only do weekend brunch but you shouldcheck it out if you can. I would stick to the restaurants in th downtown area as opposed to the south end (exception being the Ritz of course).
Catering for 40 in Jacksonville/Ponte Vedra Beach
Liz Grenamyer is the absolute best. She has just been asked to do Top Chef next season by a bravo casting director.
