COSTCO treasures [Moved from Ontario]

Just to add to the fun:

XL tobasco
Maple syrup 1L
Kirkland roast espresso whole coffee beans (the red bag)
Big hunk of parmigiana cheese
Omega eggs
Healthy granola bars that we then throw away b/c the kids end up hating
Falaffel balls and humus

Allan's Misty Mints

Yep, Walmart yesterday at Eg and Warden

Real Sports Bar and Grill @ ACC

Went last night before the leaf game.

We had a reservation but had to wait in a line 'because the upstairs part opens at 5"

Place was packed, not sure why. Had flank steak which arrived cold. The place is huge, music was deafening, we (party of 4) ended up having to shout at each other.

The attraction of this place, like the devotion to the leafs, is an odd Toronto phenomenon.

Wouldn't hurry back.

Mediocre Lunch at Rebel House

Had lunch today at Rebel House. Haven't been in a while. Can't really fathom why it is so busy. Service is slow, food ok, not great, place is really dirty / run down and staff pretty rude.

Large threatening sign taped to the outside window saying no outside food / Starbucks.

Overall odd, oppressive atmosphere kinda bad tone.

Probably won't return.

St Louis's in the Beach, what was i thinking

Took the family a couple of fridays ago. Five of us in total. (kids 10, 8 and 3)

Place was dirty, 'food' awful. Bill came to over 100$.

Thought we'd take a chance as the options in the beach are lousy. Well, you can add this place to lousy in the beach.

Don't ever go. Rock bottom.

Help - need simple good birthday cake in Toronto

Sugar Plum on Kingston Rd in the Beach.

Sylvia's cakes are tasty and beautiful.

They are our go to place for all cakes / cupcakes when we cant do our own.

Ontario-wide: low sodium Clamato?

My wife is quite the ceaser hound.

She prefers the no MSG 'clamato' and buys either the Loblaws no name or the store variety that is carried at Price Chopper (I bought it yesterday and think it is Compliments brand).

Anyway, I always tell her if the MSG doesnt get her, the vodka will!

Pappas Grill on Danforth = awful

we were out for a drive and needed somewhere to go. didnt have the chance to ask on CH as i would normally do.

is there a greek place on the danforth that is passable?

Pappas Grill on Danforth = awful

went for lunch with wife and 3 kids yesterday. appalling.

Daughther's pizza not cooked, not edible, sent it back. Son's hamburger burnt black. French fries looked double cooked.

Place is filthy.

Total waste of money. Never again.

Rock bottom.

Where to eat in Buffalo?

Going on a shopping trip next week with my wife and looking for somewhere good for dinner in Buffalo. We are staying at the Mansion on Delaware (altho i dont know where that is)

We like nice food, in a casual environment.

Any help would be most appreciated!

thanks

Restaurant Beaches Question

lived in the beach for almost 7 years.

only place to eat is sunset grill. great breakfasts. large and fast. they give you enough food so you are not hungry for some time allowing you to travel far from the beach for dinner.

everything else is rock bottom.

Ontario honey

may seem like an odd source but zellers (at least the one at vic park and danforth) stocks about 5 varieties of Burke's honey.

so far as i can tell all of these varieties are from ontario or at least canadian

highland farms also stocks burke's honey

bzzzz bzzzz bzzzzz

ONTARIO Beers worth trying

Here's my list

Black Oak Pale Ale -- very good

King Pilsener -- the green label

Steam Whistle -- a bit light, but good

7 yr old daughter looking to try lobster in TO

Looking for some low fuss, low muss lobster for my keen 7 yr old foodie.

Dont want to demolish the budget, but would like something nice and straightforward.

As always, thanks!

Ceili Cottage -- concept OK, execution terrible

Went to Ceili Cottage last night with my wife for dinner, found it disappointing.

First, patio was full so we sat inside. Thought the inside looks like a bunker. Service was really slow and very disorganized. We tried to order the Tuesday ‘hash’ special, but the bartender said they had already sold out of the two pigs they had roasted on Sunday, so there was no special today. And I thought this daily special thing was supposed to be one of their core competencies.

I asked what he recommended and he said bangers and mash. So I asked for that and my wife had a smoked salmon plate. It took 60 minutes for our meals to arrive (this is after we had to remind the bartender that we were still waiting). The bangers and mash consisted of two sausages in some runny potatoes for 16 bucks! The salmon plate seemed okay, but since it was all cold, a 60 minute wait seemed very odd.

We live in the beach and because of the dearth of decent places to eat there, we had high hopes for Ceili. But this place needs serious attention, service is really bad, no one seems to be in charge even though Patrick was there. And I think the décor looks like a bomb shelter. The seating inside is very limited, so I really wonder how it will fare when the patio days are over.

Maybe they need to work out the kinks, but it will be sometime before we are back

Eating in the Beach, what was I thinking.

Living in the Beach, and reading CH I should have known better than to try and eat in the Beach. But we did it yesterday at Quigleys.

Being able to eat outside was the highlight.

Me, my wife and three kids. Surly services, mixed up orders, forgotten items, undercooked fries were almost still frozen at the ends.

Waitress said to us, 'I'm surprised it's not very busy here today.' I think to myself that I know why.

Seriously, how do places like this stay in business?

Great biz lunch at Globe

Upon the advice of posters here, had lunch with a couple of business colleagues at the Globe two Fridays back.

Really enjoyed it. Had the pork belly starter and could feel my arteries closing. I had the fish and chips, another colleagure had the hanker steak and another had a lobster salad.

Great food, and a perfect venue to be able to eat and talk. We were not rushed at all.

I highly recommend the Globe and wouldnt hesitate to go again.

Business Lunch at Yonge/Eg

Maybe Boston Pizza on Eg East??

Lester's hot dogs?

Was at the Highland Farms at Kennedy and Ellesmere on Saturday and they had them in stock.

Never seen them before, so I didnt buy them. Then noticed their stadium ad during the Jays game

Non Allen's biz lunch spot needed on Danforth

Need a nice, but low key, business lunch spot on Danforth east of Broadview.

Needs not to be Allens.

Mother's Day at the Church in Stratford -- v. bad

Went a couple of weeks ago for Mother's Day.

Party of 5 adults and 3 kids. Entirely forgettable lunch. First, place is seriously dated, dirty and way too dark.

Second, they have a kids' menu that we ordered off for the 3 kids and it seriously took 45 minutes to get the food. When we got it, they had made the french toast into this sandwich thing which was so thick the kids couldn't get it in their mouths. Anyone in the kitchen think that serving a 3 inch high sandwich to a 6 year old probably won't work?

I had beef tenderloin that was so tough I left it on my plate. The server noticed I had left it and asked if was OK. I said I'm not really one to complain, but this meat was so tough I couldn't chew it. He said sorry, but did not remove it from the bill (27$ for it was certainly pushing it).

Was at the Church a couple of years ago and recall it being ok, doubt I'll be going back.

Sugar Plum Bakery --yummy

Have driven past this place on Kingston Rd at Vic Pk abt a million times. Stopped in to buy a BD cake for my dad's BD on Saturday.

Cake was lovely. Didnt pre order, just bought what they had in the display. Vanilla cake with lovely icing and beautifully decorated.

Great value at $40.

They sell lots of cup cakes too, which I did not try.

Dinner recs near Hyatt Mtl

Having dinner with some colleagues after a conferenece on Sunday evening.

Can anyone suggest a casual place with good food where we can eat, talk and have a nice time?

Food preference not critical as long as it is good.

Seriously gross lunch at Pickle Barrel Y&E

The weird thing is that the location at YE is pretty busy.

While there arent any super stellar places around here, there are a whole wack that are way better and within walking distance.

I dont get how it stays in business when the food is so bad,

Seriously gross lunch at Pickle Barrel Y&E

I sent an email complaint to PB and the Mgr from the YE location emailed me back offering me a coupon for a free entre.

The humourous part is that in the course of responding to me, he appended an email complaint from another customer whose daughter was served raw chicken fingers. Seems PB agreed to comp the chicken fingers, but they charged this guy $1.99 for the french fries that went with her uncooked chicken. Classic!

Now that is how to make someone feel appreciated.

Seriously gross lunch at Pickle Barrel Y&E

this is a valid point.

sent an email to head office voicing my displeasure

Seriously gross lunch at Pickle Barrel Y&E

Just back from an appalling lunch at the Y&E Pickle Barrel.

Had a chichen and hummus wrap which was billed as one of their healthy choices. It came with a salad which looked like an amalgam of those bagged salads. Some of the greenery had started to break down and was black. Accompanying lunch was a skewer of melon (water, honeydew and musk) all three pieces were seriously past it and inedible.

The wrap had been grilled which gave it this odd, burnt cardboard texture.

I've been to the PB at Sherway and had similar experience (why go back you say?).

Rock bottom.
