Lunch -- I'm the Birthday Guest

If you're open to an ethnic restaurant, not fancy or famous,
just stroll up ninth avenue to 57th street, there is one restaurant after another, Italian, Greek, Thai, Brazilian, Mexican, etc., even American. At 5:00, even if a restaurant is open, you would probably not need a reservation.

Brunch and Dinner suggestions: no lines! Times Square

stay away from Times Square which is touristy and over priced. Walk over a couple of blocks to 9th avenue and you will find a15 block restaurant row with every kind of ethic food imaginable.

Where to buy mini Tabasco bottles in NYC?

If you change your mind about ordering on line, has all kinds of miniatures, including tabasco sauce.

Bread thrift stores- do these exist here?

Jacks 99 cent stores (mainly the one on 32nd & Broadway) generally get a bread shipment once a week from manufacturers like Arnold's or Peppridge Farm. The bread is not past its expiration date; it's fresh and a fraction of supermarket price. I don't know which day the shipments come in.
