Milwaukee Recommendations

I was recently in Milwaukee for a conference, and I really enjoyed the Italian at Calderone Club downtown. It's small, and you wouldn't feel out of place eating by yourself. Also, everything is made from scratch (noodles, sauce, etc.), and it was great & worth the wait.

Downtown weekend

Ike's really is great for breakfast & brunch. I would recommend it, too.

Pizza Delivery recs

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

Pizza Delivery recs

Love the Weimaraner on the Lola website! We'll need to dine in at Pizzeria Lola sometime.

Pizza Delivery recs

I know that MSP has great pizza. However, I always struggle to find good delivery pizza. We are going to be in town before flying out to Vegas, and we're planning to do pizza & beer at our hotel (494 & France) the night before. Who should we call (non-chain, please) for delivery?

LaCrosse WI lunchtime event location??

Waterfront, Four Sisters, and Piggy's come to mind. All our downtown. None are necessarily known for desserts, but all offer great atmosphere and food.

happy hour with good eats before Surly tour?

We've been to Travail. Yum! And we're now figuring out that it's near the brewery. (We're not locals...from La Crosse.) We haven't been to Victory 44, though, and it's on our "to try" list. Might have to leave it up to our travel companions. If we just want to sit at the bar, which one is bigger? I'm assuming that Travail will be slammed. There's plenty of space for standing but not a lot of seating. How about V44?

happy hour with good eats before Surly tour?

Good news--my hubby gets to take his 4 closest beer-loving friends on a Surly tour on March 18th. (5th anniversary "essay" contest winner on Facebook) The tour begins at 6pm, and we're hoping to grab a bite to eat before the tour. Is there anything near the brewery (4811 Dusharme Dr. Mpls.) worth checking out? Perhaps a place with a fun happy hour (good food & drink specials)? As always, your help is much appreciated.

Where to eat near Itasca State Park MN and surrounding area

Perhaps you would like to stop in Dorset. The Mexican restaurant (Companeros) is decent for northern MN.

Thanks--Ngon!

Also---what a wonderful beer list!! I was able to enjoy a Lift Bridge that I rarely get to enjoy because they don't distribute in Wisconsin.

Thanks--Ngon!

After reading about Ngon Vietnamese Bistro for months on the MSP board, we finally had the opportunity to experience it yesterday. We were in town celebrating the birthday of a 10 year old--two moms and two daughters. We stopped for lunch after the farmer's market, and we were so pleased that we did. The four of us shared just about every appetizer. We were particularly pleased with the rabbit dumpling, shrimp spring rolls, and sweet potato croquettes. We shared two desserts to finish our meal---mango chocolate fire cake and ginger creme brulee. Everything was outstanding! Thanks, chowhound folks, for never steering me wrong!!

MSP: where to go after concert at Xcel Energy Center

A group of us are heading to a Saturday night concert in St. Paul. We're wondering where we could grab a bite after the show---10:30 or 11pm? Will most places still be serving? We're staying at the Embassy Suites downtown, so anywhere walk-able between the Xcel and Embassy Suites would be appreciated. Thanks!

MSP: non-chain pizza delivery in West Bloomington

Any great recommendations? We are in town Thursday night before we fly out to FL on Friday morning. We're hoping for some good pizza delivery before soaking in the hot tub and swimming in the pool.

MSP: downtown Minneapolis steakhouse

We love Jax! But for this trip we want to walk everywhere. Murray's looks great! And the prices are totally ok. Cheaper than Manny's for sure!
Did you want to talk about the Packers?!? :-)

MSP: downtown Minneapolis steakhouse

Greetings--
We will be staying at the Hotel Minneapolis in early November as a late anniversary celebration. We would like to do a nice meal before a show on Saturday night. My hubby would love to do Manny's...someday. Ouch--have you seen their prices? Until we feel ok spending $80 on a steak, what would you recommend? Thanks!

La Crosse recommendations sought

Unfortunately, not all restaurants are smoke-free. People can smoke in the bar at Edwardo's. And I am not a big fan of their food.
Kate's on State is the place to go for Italian. Other good food down by the river--Piggy's (blues lounge/bbq-ish food on the main level, a bit more upscale upstairs), Waterfront (upscale for La Crosse--menu changes, etc.), and Freighthouse (steaks and seafood). (Freighthouse might allow smoking at the bar.) Nell's City Grille has opened in the former City Brewery Bier Stube, and the food is delicious. Only open certain nights--Thursday thru Sunday, I believe.
Tradition's in Onalaska is probably the most upscale dining in La Crosse. The food is delicious. The portions are relatively small and expensive, but it's all done very well. Neat atmosphere, great food, great service.
All other restaurants that I mentioned are smoke-free unless otherwise noted.

Wisconsin Burgers (La Crosse)?

Does it have to be beef? You could get yourself to the Trempealeau Hotel and try a walnut burger. They're pretty famous around these parts.

For beef, try Bucky's Burger Barn on the northside of La Crosse. Not a fancy establishment by any means, but the burgers are great.

Louisville & Midwest Beers

We were in Louisville just after Christmas a couple years ago and fell in love with BBC's "Hell For Certain". It's a red IPA. Might be seasonal...but if you're in the neighborhood in wintertime it's worth trying.

Brunch recipe for 30--using Nesco?

OK--my bad.... I don't think of french toast as egg based. (Yes--eggs are an ingredient, but it doesn't taste like eggs to me.) Maybe I'll figure out some sort of sweet-ish strata. Thanks for the ideas.

Brunch recipe for 30--using Nesco?

Help! I've volunteered to make a brunch dish for 30 people this Sunday. I need to make the food in advance, and I don't want to do an egg dish. I was thinking stuffed French toast. The question---can I do multiple layers (not just 2) and expect it to "roast" relatively quickly in the Nesco roaster? OR Do you have another recipe idea?

MKE-walking distance from Hilton?

We're leaving for a convention in Milwaukee tomorrow. We won't arrive until 7pm, so we're hoping to find a decent place for drinks and dinner that's near our hotel (downtown Hilton). What would you recommend? I saw mention of Elsa's on the Park, but that's a 15 minute walk and it's still COLD in Wisconsin. Anything closer? We don't need anything fancy--just tasty! Thanks!

MSP: Where do you like for brunch?

Jax Cafe (www.jaxcafe.com) is the perfect special occasion brunch spot. Yum!

Restaurant Wedding in Minneapolis?

We went to a very cool, non-traditional wedding at an old movie theater in Uptown a few years ago. (It might be 5 years already!) I don't know who did the catering, but the venue was very unique and fun. Don't know the name or exact location...sorry.

Homemade Baileys

FYI--In these recipes, I've used fat-free 1/2 & 1/2, and it tastes great! Not that you're making it "good for you", because it's still loaded with sugar, the fat-free 1/2 and 1/2 is an option.

[MSP] Theater District, MPLS--early mid-scale dinner?

We actually did the happy hour menu at Solera last night before a show. It was perfect!! Great happy hour prices! And delicious food and drink, too!

Milwaukee in October

I second the Lakefront Brewery tour!! Big, big, big fun!

best restaurants in or near Viroqua WI

With kids--have lunch at Cheese Corner (across from Dairy Queen) on the main drag in Viroqua. Great sandwiches!
