Help! EARLY Thursday break-Lunch Sunday in Nashville

Taking a lovers getaway to Nashville, and come from a food barren area. Am originally from Texas, so think I know my way around food, and want some great experiences while I am there. Staying in the downtown area, but not afraid to cab it. Eating all meals out!!!

Thank you in advance for any help.

What Do You Cook Best?

My friends are constantly telling me that I "make the vegetables taste good, like meat" so, I guess that is my thing....

looking for great bread in Hampton Roads

I think Bakers Crust in Norfolk has wonderful bread, and I have not tried all of their varieties yet, but the Sugarplum Bakery sells bread at the Five Points Farmers Market, and their sandwich bread makes the best grilled cheese I have had. There will also soon be a Whole Foods in Virginia Beach, and you should be able to score some nice loaves there.

about subway

I "confessed" to my husband recently that I loathe Subway. He was shocked, like I hid it from him before our marriage and it was just coming out unexpectedly.

For me it's the bread...gross bread. Why would you boast about that "Freshly Baked"'s full of air and tasteless and dry. YUCK.

Where to buy inexpensive whole vanilla beans?

I don't know if there is a home brewing store near you, but the one near me has great quality vanilla beans for SO cheap that I feel like I should tell them they are practically giving them away.

Government Cheese

I laughed so hard when I saw this post.

My aunt made the BEST grilled cheese sandwiches, I asked her where the cheese came from (or what it was) and she insisted that the cheese was sold at Sam's Warehouse. I looked my entire life for that cheese, cut to 21 years LATER, was working retail and one of the other employees was talking about how she only missed one thing about Government cheese, the grilled cheese sandwiches.

BUSTED AUNT Patsy. So busted.

Need a new direction for cauliflower

I have eaten about 15 omelets this month with this amazing combination :) I too was weary of another plate of roasted cauliflower sooo,

Cut it into florets and then slice the florets into 3-4 flat pieces (jeez that was written poorly)
Sauteed with olive oil and garlic, then pour over a few scrambled eggs ( I do egg whites) and prepare as traditional omelet, sprinkle with salt, pepper, FETA CHEESE (so good with cauliflower) and green onions.

Tips for peeling hard boiled eggs?

I always have good luck draining the water after my eggs are boiled and covering them with ice. Leave till the ice melts! Then peel.

This worked for my pops and I with eggs that came right out of the chicken coop.

Best, Simplest way to enjoy a fried egg?

Absolutely any leftover Mexican (Tex-mex or authentic) food benefits from a nice fried egg the next day. Enchilada, taco, tamale....mmmmm

Favorite Topping for a Triscuit?

As Mitch Hedberg said (about Ritz) I didn't buy them because they are little plates!

What food find still haunts you - that you had once and haven't found since?

My father went to his grave still attempting, never succeeding, to make a coconut cream pie with a crispy, not soft meringue top that we experienced once in a little Texas cafe in the middle of no where. I think I have the secret (bake it separately), but it isn't nearly as good as that perfect pie was.

Ice cream and ___________ = a winning combination

I make and adore, a cantaloupe milkshake that helps me survive the summers. It doesn't hurt with a sidecar of rum either.

Ice cream and ___________ = a winning combination

Yes yes, fries. Hot salty french fries and melty chocolate icecream.

Strange Pairings that Taste Uncommonly Good

Club cracker, spread with some cream cheese and then pour on a little hot sauce (Blazing Saddles Habanero is my fav, but any hot sauce or Tabasco would work). Blows my mind how many of these I can eat.
