Looking for moderately priced place for dinner tonight near L'Enfant Plaza
I'm a New England Hound here for a conference. I just got ditched by my colleague so am now on my own for dinner. I'm staying at L'Enfant Plaza Hotel, but can easily take a cab or Metro. I'm a pretty adventurous eater, so am open to most cuisines, but since I'm a woman on my own, I'd like to be in a safe area.
Any fast suggestions for a hungry hound?
Looking for special lunch spot near Albany St. hospitals
DH and I will be in Boston most of the day tomorrow. I've got an interview at 10:00 a.m. and he has an MD appointment at 3:00 at Boston Medical Center (Albany and Mass Ave area). We're looking for someplace nice for lunch that would kill some time in between times. Ideally we'd like to leave the car in the validated lot and either walk or take a short taxi ride to lunch. DH won't eat Asian, so, what are my other options for a delicious repast fit for a chowhound? Thanks for your help!
NE CH heading to inauguration - Looking for grub in Potomac
I am one of the millions of people flocking to DC area for the inauguration festivities. I'm staying in Potomac, MD.
I'd love recommendations for a place in the area for dinner Monday night. Moderately priced, pub grub is fine - the person I'm travelling with isn't super-adventurous, so probably no exotic ethnic cuisines.
A good place for breakfast on Monday would be good too.
And then any ideas for out of the way places near the Capitol that might not be completely packed (Ha!) because people don't know about them would be exceptional!
Fried Clams...Nashua/Manchester area
I think the fried seafood at the Lobster Claw 2 in Derry at the traffic circle is the absolute best in all New England - and I've eaten a lot of fried seafood.
Looking for nice weekend lunch place 1/2 way between NH and Berkshires
I wasn't thinking deli, but once we checked out the menu we are now all excited for it. Thanks for the great suggestion!
Looking for nice weekend lunch place 1/2 way between NH and Berkshires
My mom and I are looking for someplace to meet for lunch in mid-western MASS. I'm coming from Derry, NH and she's coming from Pittsfield, MA and we'd like to find someplace about mid-way to meet. She likes more traditional style food, so it can't be too ethnic or adventuresome! We could go Route 2 or Mass Pike area.
Boston to ????, Maine
Harp00n-- I had read somewhere that Morse's was closed. Have you been this summer? I'm heading to Harpwell tomorrow for a week, and have been collecting all my restaurant info, like a good hound!
Lobster shacks we can't miss!
The recommendation I'd make is to take 95 across the bridge to exit 2 in Maine and go to Chauncey Creek. The location can't be beat if it is a nice day, and it is a fun place to go. You can bring in anything they don't serve (alcohol, salads, desserts, etc. - they are pretty liberal with this policy). You go down the ramp from the street, pick a table, and then go to order. You'll need to give them your table number when you order so they know where to bring the food. It's not a huge distance from 95, or I'm sure you can find some nice back roads to take over to VT.
I actually prefer the food at Markey's (see my comment below), but as much as I love food, the location usually wins out in this case. Here's their web site

Lobster shacks we can't miss!
Markey's will definitely have steamers. People in this area are either Markey's people or Brown's people. I am a Markey's person. I think the lobsters there are great and their fried seafood is good too. They are both very casual, but Markey's is a tiny step up from Brown's. They do serve beer and wine at Markey's.
Paradise Iced Tea availability in CT?
If you do a google search, you will find lots of places you can purchase it online and make your own. I now get the commercial size and make a gallon jug, using the same tea pouch twice (depends on how strong you like your tea). I actually first discovered Paradie tea at Quiznos sub shops, so if you have those near you, you might check there as an alternative to making at home.
BEST macaroons? Boston to Nashua, nh
Interesting request because there is a macaroon place called St. Julien's in Sandown, NH (over the river and through the woods a bit from Nashua). I've tried to get there when they are open, but no luck so far. They are supposed to be fantastic, and other hounds have had them. Here's their web site.

It's Ice Cream time!
I've never been to Glenn's. My usual Salem ice cream is Findeisens which I get as a treat after a trip into Barnes & Noble. Best ice cream in the area, as far as I am concerned is Moo's on Crystal Ave in Derry. Great quality, great flavors. The Almond Joy is heavenly!
Windham, NH - is there life beyond Applebees?
I live in Derry and have experienced the same issues you have. But I've been here 15 years and things are slowly starting to come around. I have some recommendations, and seconds and diagreements with what's already been posted.
Recommendations: For a nice place to hang out, with some decent food (I'd give it a B+) is Brookstone Grille on 111 in Derry (right on the Hampstead line). We always sit at the bar because there you can order off any of the menus (dining room, bar, or flatbread pizza). I really enjoy their pizzas and my husband loves their burgers. Someone else mentioned the Lobster Shack in Derry - I think they mean Lobster Claw 2. It's nothing special to look at or eat in, but I think they have the BEST fried seafood and chicken fingers I've ever had. They are located at the traffic circle in Derry where 102 crosses with 28 By-Pass. Best breakfast around - The English Muffin in Hampstead on 121. Be prepared for a wait. In Nashua, for lunch, try the Seedling Cafe. It is an organic restaurant and they have fantastic soups, salads and sandwiches. I like Surf on Main Street, very good seafood. I went to the Peddler's Daughter (Irish Pub) the other day for lunch and was expecting so-so pub grub and I was pleasantly surprised. My favorites in Manchester for ethnic food are Golden Bowl for Vietnamese and Cafe Momo for Nepali. There's a nice wine bar in Manchester called Un-Wined. Nice wine selection, a little funky. The food is passable, but they try to pass it off as something better than it is.
Seconding what others have said: Piccola would be my choice for Italian too. I had a Salad Caprese there that was to die for, and I'm not even that thrilled with tomatoes! Mike's Red Barn in Salem has excellent marinated meats (I'd avoid Mr. Steer in Londonderry - I think they are overpriced and not as fabulous as they think they are). La Carreta is certainly the best Mexican around, but the past couple times there, it has seemed a bit "fast food" like to me. The food comes out about 2 minutes after you ordered it, orders have been screwed up, etc. Martha's I like, but it gets mixed reviews from others (mostly bad I think), I've also heard mixed reviews about Black Orchid, although I haven't been there myself (because of the mixed reviews.
My "stay away" list that opposes ideas here: Maryanne's - blech. See my note on the English Muffin above - I'd even recommend Derry Diner over Maryannes. Coliseum - I've had one decent meal there and a few terible ones. They've gotten too big for their britches, but I seem to be the only one who thinks so. I had a terrible meal at the Lakeside in Kingston - definitely not the kind of place you are describing that you like (no funk at all!) Keep us posted on your food finds and experiences.
Down N' Dirty BBQ in Manchester, NH has shut down.
I agree - best BBQ around. I was shocked to read here that they were closed, they were always packed when I was in there. If they do something next, I'm not sure it will be BBQ there - the phone is disconnected and the web site is gone. Doesn't seem like it is a temporary closing.
Berkshires MA
I just got back from spending a weekend with my Mom in Pittsfield. The best breakfast and lunch place around is Cafe Reva on Tyler Street in Pittsfield. Reasonably priced, in a sort of run down area of town, but gourmet quality food and creative dishes. They are only open for breakfast and lunch, but breakfast is available the whole time. I had a piece of peach pie there yesterday that was the BEST piece of pie I have ever had. In North County, there is Pedrins for drive-in/fried seafood. Their quality seems to go up and down, but it is always packed. If you go, do it on a nice day, because there is no inside seating.
I've had great Thai food in Williamstown, but can't remember the name of the place for the life of me. It is on Spring Street. I've heard good things about Jae's, also Asian. Here's a really good CH post on food in the area that will give you lots of other ideas.

Salem Cross Inn West Brookfiled, MA
I like Salem Cross Inn. It has a nice warm enviroment with fireplaces - perfect for these crisp fall days. I've been there mostly on holidays - Easter and Mother's Day I think. The food is not wildly imaginative, but always reliably good.
Torontonian in Maine, Mass & Vermont
Not sure if it is too late, but I just got back from 4 days in Kennebunkport and we had some good food. Mabel's Lobster Claw was very casual and very good (I had the Lobster Savannah), but was just featured on Rachel Ray's Tasty Travels, so it will soon be even busier than they were - make reservations! My favorite was The Ramp at Pier 77 in Cape Porpoise. The Ramp is the downstairs bar area - VERY casual and tiny, but great views of the water and boats. You can order off the bar menu or the restaurant menu - the bar menu features good old favorites, with gourmet touches. We had crab cakes, lobster rolls and onion strings served with house-made smoked tomato ketchup. Everything was outstanding, and we even managed to squeeze in a chocolate hazelnut torte which was especially tasty.
Vacationing in Maine: Northern Penobscot Bay - Belfast/Searsport/Lincolnville?
I've stayed in Belfast for years, and the places do change. I've not been up in two years, but I think the Twighlight Cafe is still around. Dudley's Diner in the center of town is great for breakfast as is Chase's Daily. Dudley Diner is traditional breakfast fare, and Chase's caters more to the organic crowd. Darby's has been around forever and has a good ecletic menu. When last there, the Theatre for the Handicapped ran a bakery in the center of town that had good baked goods, and I also really liked Bay Wraps for huge wrap sandwiches - definitely big enough for a full meal, filled with rice, beans, meat and veggies.
Anthing new in Osaka Tea Garden in Nashua NH space?
I had heard that the Alphorn in Danbury might be looking to move there and do German with a Biergarten kind of thing. But it wasn't definite - they have to unload the place in Danbury first. But it is kind of a nice idea for that location. Nothing else has seemed to work there.
breakfast in Bedfor NH area
Greenfield's Restaurant in Litchfield has great hash. It's a casual place on 3A right in with Mel's Tee Off mini golf, go-karts etc.
Southwest New Hampshire
I second Acqua Bistro in Peterborough. I've only been for Sunday Brunch, but it's a nice menu, great drinks and a nice ambience inside or outside.
Know of Bubble Tea in Southern NH?
I have a Boba Tea craving I need to feed and don't want to drive into Boston for it. Does anyone know of a place in Nashua or Manchester?
Bailey Island area
I recently went to the Dolphin Marina in Harpswell. A great location and incredible view and some of the best lobster stew I've had. Here's their web site.

Looking for some place new to try in Manchester, NH
Looking for somewhere new and moderately priced to try in Manch-vegas. Has anyone tried Gauchos or Taste of Europe (okay so not necessarily new, but new to me)? Any suggestions?
