Seasons, really great market in queens, kew garden hills

I really don't want to post this on the kosher board because no one will see it, and I don't keep kosher, but I can't believe I never knew about this place before, on main street--grass fed kosher meat extremely fresh butchered there, put out in small quantities, prices great--got several steaks to try tday--lots of chicken choices and wise organic chicken too..their fish looked veryt fresh on thursday, amazing homemade hummos, tons of flavors no preservatives, they make it wed thurs fri--sushi there, bakery there tons great stuff brought to them from bklyn (yes, hannukah donuts!!), the takeout deli section is amazing looking and several people said it tastes as good as looks, they were so nice there, gave my son potato lakte hot from oven to try, delish--great selection from stuffed cabbage to kaftakebab smothered onions,,,etc...they have all the dr pragers hard to find items, even wild planet organic tuna...even wild salmon--and their produce very nice looking--store is SPOTLESS--parking can be a little tough--service excellent--and across the street, carlos and gabby's tacos is terrific, and so is the sushi tokyo place---3 winners right there, and queens pita has some good stuff too, few doors down...

Malai Marke - a new Indian on (gasp!) 6th St.

thanks..I was there tonight first time, and I must say everything was just delicious, they do not have the shrimp caldeen on the menu anymore, though..though they have added a shrimp with garlic that sounds good...atmosphere pleasant, service not rushed at all, and we stayed quite awhile to talk, they were almost empty lousy weather and all...would definitely return. Prices reasonable for portions. ==-everything was cooked perfectly, and served piping hot, the presentation also lovely.

we ordered:complimentary papadum delicious served first...
-MURGH HARYALI 8
Marinated in a green masala
-MURGH KORMA 16
Chicken malai kabab in a creamy nutty sauce
-LATA SHETTYS SHRIMP AJADINA 19
Cooked with coconut and dry red chilies
-LEMON RICE 6
With mustard seeds
-RAITA
-GARLIC NAAN
and I had a glass of pinot grigio, which wasn't half bad..have no idea what it was, LOL they only had one kind

Holiday Party Queens/Manhattan: Spanish food

Tu casa in kew gardens also has location in astoria, both are good for parties, their chicken is excellent and hot sauce better than pio pio, really nice family that runs the place, I get takeout from kew gardens every week, at least once sometimes 2x

Gluten Free Apple Cobbler Question

thank you, I also just bought the Pamela's Artisan gluten free flour mix also, should I still use the TJ one? Should I still add the baking powder?

Gluten Free Apple Cobbler Question

Usually I make my apple cobbler, with 2 tablespoons flour in the apple filling and for the topping 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1/4 tsp salt, 1 egg, sugar, butter,====what I would like to do today is substitute the flour for a gluten free choice. I can't use almond flour because I'm watching hi oxalate, so this is what I have on hand, anyone know how I can substitute? And since I normally use baking powder how does that correlate to what I have to substitute? If these don't work, I can run over to the store and grab something else...thank you...

-Trader Joe's all purpose gluten free flour, (whole grain brown rice flour, potato starch rich flour, tapioca flour)

-Ground White Rice Flour (bob mill)

KOKUM suggestions

wanted to try kokum on monday, can anyone comment on the chicken kottumali with coriander and coconut? how is it prepared? ALso, they said they would accomodate white meat requests so that's good for me..any word on their shrimp dishes which are best? I tried Chote nawab in august, and frankly, was not impressed at all, the chicken was undercooked, and rice cold, -can't say I'd return...bread mediocre also...i know same owners, but wanted to try kokum, and marke malai thanks for some current info..

Thank u for responses, ended up, at fornino, we were tired, but food was uniformly lousy, zero attention to detail, quality poor, pizzas cold tasteless, brown 2 leaves of basil on them, nln existent service, felt like cafeteria food, very disappointing. Would not return.

For sat night, unfamiliar with Brooklyn, will be at photoville at pier 5, 6 area there, parking most likely towards Atlantic, prefer not to move car, and get dinner around there, what is good, reasonable priced, clean, child friendly,,2 and 9 year old..so not bar atmosphere, and won't need reservation ..will probably go around 8 or 9..most cuisines ok, but gluten free options plus..thanks

Vitamix 6300 recently purtchased at Costco is made like JUNK!

Funny this thread is still going, but to clarify, I bought 3 different units right off the palette perfectly sealed not returned, I'm totally ocd about boxes, so, no it was completely vitsmix inside factors poor construction , period. Please don't call me liar my photos clearly show it, and I wouldn't waste my time complaining about it to vitamix or Costco if it wasn't so, not a random thing, but on 3 machines, I gave up and am happy with blendtec, if you're lucky and your vitamix looks great then super, but I was incredibly disappointed with what i
experienced

Costco Frozen Shrimp (Bagged) from Vietnam

Interesting how Costco farmed shrimp is so dangerous but gulf shrimp safe? Too many people I know who used to fish in the gulf won't ever eat any seafood from there since the spill and dumping of toxic chemicals, shrimp and fish are deformed, testing is a joke, I'd rather eat farmed anything then gulf anything.

thanks for the suggestions, read scathing reviews for thai 101, i find med grill much better than avli, don't really care for durso's thought it was very overpriced and quality wasn't anything special that I couldn't get elsewhere..years ago i tried the cheesecake place, didn't like it as much as miss grimble in the bronx, and I find malverne bakery out in long island to be tops for so many things that I save my calories for there..lol....will check out kmart, and I've never had the chance to get over to bkny, i always found that it looks so depressing from the outside..and I'm often not on that side...i couldn't find the indian menu online..
