Meskerem is a good Ethiopian restaurant in Charlotte as well.

Here an older post for Winston-Salem that may help:

ISO good food in Hickory or Morganton, NC

Keaton's Bbq isn't too far off I-40 just before you get to Statesville. Famous for its "dipped chicken", which is fried and then dipped in bbq sauce. Google it to get directions and hours of operation, which are somewhat limited.

Here's an old thread that has some fairly recent posts that may be of help:

Allen and Sons or Bullocks?

The changing demographics of te Triangle have had no effect on the authenticity of eastern-style bbq in NC, and you're just flat out wrong. Eastern-style bbq slaw has, and always has had, mayonnaise in it.

Fuller's in Lumberton is a buffet-style restaurant that serves up good southern food. I think the actual name is Fuller's BBQ, and there is bbq on the buffet, but I don't bother with it. Fuller's is located just off I-95, a few miles north of 74.

Allen and Sons or Bullocks?

A&S bbq is not so smokey that you can't taste the meat. And Bullock's 'q is just plain bad, imo.

Pickled pork for greens. Where to get it it in RTP?

Or you could just use a piece of "sidemeat" (fatback) and throw a dash of vinegar into your greens.

Allen and Sons or Bullocks?

If there's no smoke, its just roasted pork, not bbq. And I hope no one goes to A&S to order "other stuff", whatever that might be.

Allen and Sons or Bullocks?

Definitely Allen and Son (as noted by mpjmph, the one on Hwy 86 b'tween Chapel Hill and Hillsborough). Outstanding 'q, far superior to Bullocks.

Beaufort, NC

Had an a very nice meal at Stillwater last night....local grouper, crusted with japanese breadcrumbs and sauted with a light mustard sauce and jasmine rice. It was very, very good. Sat on the deck at the Rhum Bar overlooking the water and the boats. Very nice! Also had a glass of wine and some cheese and crackers at Cru Wine Bar, which is a great addition to Beufort.

+1 for Lexington #1. Other suggestions:

Keaton's BBQ near Statesville. The star of the show is their chicken, which is fried and then dipped in bbq sauce. Its a shack out in the middle of the woods. Use their website (keatonsoriginalbbq.com) to get directions. Pay attention to their hours of operation.

There is also an italian restaurant in East Bend, just outside Winston-Salem that I haven't been to, but have heard many good things about. Supposedly a family-run operation, everything homemade, etc. Its called Kitchen Roselli (ww.kitchenroselli.com) Only open for dinner.

Charlotte help this beer lover out!

Natty Greene is too small to be carried by a distributor. They do their own distribution, just like Red Oak, Olde Mecklenburg, etc. I don't think the OP is looking for an alternative.

What is it? What kind of food? Is there some connection with a restaurant of the same name in NY?

Which Asheville area top restaurants would be better with elderly in dining party?

Its actually Early Girl. I've only been there once, and I don't really remember the noise level, (it was breakfast so I'm sure it was fairly quiet) but it does have a lot of hard surfaces. Its also a very casual place, not exactly what I'd pick for a special occasion. I'm trying to think of a place I'd recommend...maybe Zambra? Its fairly quiet as I recall, but it is pretty dark, if thats issue. Here's some threads about Black Mountain:

Aria in Charlotte?

I haven't been to Aria yet, so I'm sorry I can't help with that. As far as othe suggestions, Coco Osteria has terrific food. Its small, but on a Wednesday night wth a reservation I wouldn't think that would create a problem. Chima is fun (although pricey) for a group. The thai place at 5th and College is good...I'm drawing a blank on the name...Blue Basil maybe? Or just Basil? I have heard that the restaurant in the Westin is really good...Ember Grill is the name, I think? Ratcliffe on the Green is very good also.

Barbecue near Topsail Island, NC?

Topsail is not halfway between Holly Ridge and Wilmington by the highway. As the OP stated, Holly Ridge is 5 miles from the bridge to Topsail and Wilmington is 40 miles.

Multilingual and hungry, in Charlotte for a day, unafraid of bad decor.

I'm probably not really qualified for this, but here it goes...

For Vietnamese, try Thanh Huong on Central Avenue or Lang Van on Shamrock Drive. For Mexican, La Unica on South Boulevard or Central Avenue. Actually, you could just drive down Central Avenue of South Blvd. and stop ay any place that looks interesting. Lots of various asian and hispanic cuisines represented. For dim sum, there is Dim Sum on Central and there is something of a food court at Asian Corners Mall on N. Tryon Street at Sugar Creek Road. Also on North Tryon is Lupita Tortilleria and Carnaceria...its a butcher shop that sells wonderful carnitas, barbacoa and fresh tortillas. Take out only. Be sure and get the special sauces if you go.

Kosher in Hampton Roads?

I wish I could tell you; I was simply pointing out that it would be amazing if Hampton Roads had a kosher restaurant. They are very rare outside of a few major metropolitan areas that have significant jewish populations. Your best bet is probably to go to Little Israel, buy some kosher approved food and serve it at your home. You'll also need to do some research on how to make your kitchen kosher to do that. You might also want to post something on CH's kosher board asking for advice. Good luck!
