Nice place that's easy access from Encino?

I highly recommend Café Bizou. Mistral has great food but the place is too small (and noisy)for the crowd they get. Aisles are too narrow with waitstaff and diners bumping into your chair as they pass by.

Lotus of Siam: What else to add to our order?

Speaking of pork belly, I'd like to know if they make a dish called Cha Po. It's deep fried pork belly, BBQ pork and roast duck served over rice.

Looking for reasonably priced authentic Mexican in Vegas.

Yes, Tacos El Compita is the place. I couldn't remember the name. I love tripas and, for sure, will try Tacos El Rodeo. I had read some reviews that said Tacos Gil made the best tripas in the valley. I was very disappointed after taking the first bite. Some pieces were as hard as bone while others were soft. Another place with excellent tripas is Cardena's market

Looking for reasonably priced authentic Mexican in Vegas.

There's two kinds of "authentic"; the places mentioned is one kind and the other is a hole-in-the-wall joint on the NW corner of Jones and Charleston, next to the car wash. The place is clean, has a full menu and I doubt much English is spoken there. I've had their lengua and tripas; both were superb.

When is Burger King going to realize that their fries SUCK?

Never. They don't even realize their burgers suck.

I hope you plan on getting together again when you come. So many choices; so little time.

Cornish Pasty Co.

I just pulled up their menu and there are so many dishes I love, but can't find anywhere else in Vegas, that I wouldn't know where to begin.

Via Brasil is an excellent choice, I've been there several times and never disappointed. Don't miss their lamb chops or beef short ribs,

Sad to report the passing of Veggo

I am also from Hamden where, thanks to your grandfather, the name Veggo is well known and respected but I never met your brother until I joined ChowHound.
Even tho I never met him, I consider him a good friend. Please know you have my deepest sympathy for your loss.

Parent's 40th Anniversary dinner

Good to know. I recall being told that I had to wear a jacket to get in.

Parent's 40th Anniversary dinner

I would have suggested Hugo's Cellar but, IIRC, they have a bit of a dress code; no casual wear. OP sez they won't have appropriate attire.

Tacos Gil

That just about covers it, Dave. Taco's are ok as an appetizer; 2 bites and it's gone. I do prefer flour tortillas to corn and I like the heft and feel of a solid, meat-filled tortilla; something I can sink my teeth into. I guess that's what you techies call meat to tortilla ratio. I prefer all meat because I love the taste of the meat by itself w/o the fillers. It's just like a steak dinner; the meat is separate from the sides not on top of it.

Tacos Gil

Not many taco places here serve tripas, lengua and cabeza so when I read a few reviews that said Tacos Gil has the best tripas in Vegas I had to give it a try,
Operating out of a small trailer in the parking lot of a thrift store on the SE corner of Jones and Charleston, they seem to do a good business. I also noticed that they had an "A" rating from the health dept.
I ordered a tripas burrito with hot sauce only; no rice/beans/etc. The person taking my order proceeded to read off a list of other options such as cheese, pico de gallo, etc which I politely declined. I then paid my 7 bucks (5 if I wanted all the other junk), All the condiments and salsas are self-serve on a counter which means they don't put the hot sauce on when they make the burrito. I have to add a bit of salsa each bite I take.
The pieces of tripe were too big and cooked unevenly; some pieces were soft while others were bone-hard and unchewable. It was somewhat disappointing. The next time I go I'll get the lengua (there's no way they can ruin that).I'll also hand them a couple of small cups of salsa and ask them to add it before wrapping the burrito,

The saddest beef I ever did see...

Right now, he's on Science Diet Lite for large breeds with no people food at all (wink, wink).

The saddest beef I ever did see...

We haven't given him peas but he does like the others. Again, the vet said giving him too much carrots or beans was not good for him as he gets gassy. We were giving him carrots as a between meal snack as well as with dinner.

The saddest beef I ever did see...

I used to cook for him but the vet said no more people food; just lite kibble until he sheds a few pounds. He should weigh about 130; he was at 151. I still manage to slip him a morsel or two but not as much as before. He loves a bit of pepperoni pizza crust.

Since chowser already mentioned the meatball/grape jelly one, I'll add the following:

You can 'kick it up a notch' by adding a hard-boiled egg or 2.

Please help with question regarding our new stove

Thanks for the response, DuffyH. What you said makes sense but, what's still unclear is will my pasta water reach the boiling point faster on the large burner assuming the pot is large enough?

So true. People have told us that when they die they want to be reincarnated as our dog, We'll give him a piece of whatever we're having with the exception of things dogs can not have.

Please help with question regarding our new stove

I know about BTU's but I don't know when to use which burner. If I want to boil water for pasta do I use the highest rated one (7k+btu's or a lower rated one)? While pasta is cooking I'm browning some Italian sausages. Which burner is best for that? I'm assuming that the lowest rated burners in back are usually for warming things, not for cooking.

If the meat isn't good enough for you to eat I certainly wouldn't feed it to the dog. Bruin eats what I eat, If I can't eat it, I toss it. if Something upsets his stomach, I'm the one that has to clean his mess,

Exactly. I have to use the neb 2x/day along with 3 different inhalers. All of which contributes to the tremor.
