One dinner in Austin and Lambert's is booked up...

Lambert's is probably the best for "fancy BBQ" and most of our BBQ is more on the casual end so either you and your friend want a higher end place to dine or to eat good BBQ. No need to pay a lot for good BBQ in Texas. I am sure everyone can suggest the traditional BBQ places like Rudy's or Stubbs. Otherwise you can get Tex Mex or Southern Style food at places like Z Tejas, Moonshine, or Bess.

Good food on the waaay east side?

There is Mr. Catfish off of Springdale (btw Airport and 183). I haven't been yet, but Jalepeno Joes is a burger place also off of Springdale (btw Airport and 7th). My favorite is the Old School BBQ Bus next to the train tracks on MLK. They are only there 4 days a week and their hours are "flexible" so I would check their facebook page for updates. Hope this helps!
