Corduroy in its new location
I'm taking my parents to Corduroy tomorrow night because I liked it so much when I visited it last winter. At the time it was located in a hotel. I was wondering if anyone has noticed a big difference in the food since moving locations or if it has stayed consistently good?
Best steak in Old Town
Thanks - I'll keep that in mind. I actually looked at Bastille, too, but Le Refuge had a better selection of steaks.
Wow - I didn't realize tomorrow was Bastille Day. I love falling into a theme!
Best steak in Old Town
Thanks for all the suggestions!
I've actually decided to go with Le Refuge. It has the steak and potatoes for my dining partner and some interesting French options for me.
Best steak in Old Town
I've been to Daniel O'Connell's for drinks, but never food. I looked at the menu and it looks a lot more interesting than Bookbinder's. Have you been?
I have eaten brunch at 100 King, but I'm afraid it might be too trendy at night. I stopped by for drinks with a girlfriend a few weekends ago and seemed like a weird nightclub/euro crowd. Not really mine or my dining partner's taste.
I've heard the steaks at Charthouse are good? Thoughts?
Thanks!

Best steak in Old Town
Hi - Heading out to dinner in Old Town this weekend and I'm looking for a good steak. We don't want to go as far out as Clydes - would prefer to stay near the water front area. I know Bookbinders just opened and it is supposed to be a good steak place, anyone know?
It doesn't have to be a "steak house", just a place that serves good steak. I'm open to any suggestion and budget isn't really an issue.
Thanks!

Cork Tonight
Please be sure and let us know what you think. I've not heard great things about the food, but the wine flights have gotten rave reviews from friends.
Thanks!
Gazpacho in DC
OK - not so sure about the spelling, but I'm looking for the best place in or around DC to get the cold tomato based soup. Any ideas?
New Lebanese Restaurant/Hookah bar in Old Town?
I haven't been yet, but here is the Daily Candy write up:

Mint Crisp M&Ms -- anyone spotted them yet?
I found them at Blockbuster video in Alexandria (Beuregard, near the CVS and Giant). They are delish! Mint M&Ms are my fave Christmastime treat and crispy was my favorite before it was discontinued, so this is my fantasy M&M!
Dress Code at DC Coast
Wow, geeze. My parents aren't slobs. I'm sure my dad will happily wear kahkis and a button down shirt. They would never be so uncouth as to wear "athletic-wear' to a nice restaurant. I was just trying to clarify that they didn't have to look like a "politico or doctor" to dine amongst them. I'm sure they'll consider it a privilege.
Dress Code at DC Coast
I realize this isn't exactly about food, but I didn't know who else to ask, besides chowhounders. My parents (In their late 50's) are coming to visit next week (from Missouri) and I'm planning on making reservations at DC Coast on Monday night.
Do you know what the dress code is like? Will my father have to wear a jacket? If so, we will not be going, unfortunately. I'm open to other suggestions, also.
Thanks!

Do you have to get the chicken and waffles together or can you just get chicken?
Do they put syrup on the chicken and waffles?
Sorry - I'm confused.
St. Louis - Copia Urban Winery
Hi! I will be back in Missouri at the end of September. My parents are picking me up at the airport and plan to take me to Copia for dinner. Has anyone been? Can anyone reccomend the place?

I've walked past Landini Bros. a million times and never noticed it. It blends in with the other restaurant fronts.
Does anyone else reccomend 100 King? I've been for brunch and enjoyed it, but haven't heard great things about their dinner.

Ice cream injected cupcakes in DC?
Had them, love them! It is just a minature version of an icecream cake. The hostess looking ones are lacking on the cream on the inside, but are tasty nonetheless. They also have traditional chocolate and vanilla ones. I wouldn't say they're injected, but they're good!
Sweet Potato Fries
Chadwicks does have good sweet potato fries. I also had GREAT ones (as an app) at Lightfoot in Leesburg. I've never had a bad meal at Lightfoot and there are so many great choices, you might not get to the sweet potato fries.

Thanks! I do like Pita House. I'm looking for something a little fancier. I will check out the Majestic and Overwood.
Mei N Yu
I can recomend the upstairs bar in Mei N Yu for a date. It is usually much quieter than the rest of the place. "Much quieter" is relative, though. The whole place is pretty loud once the DJ starts. Warning: careful on the stairs. Last time I was there I busted my ass down the entire flight. Someone had spilled a drink and no one bothered to clean it up. Of course, I'd been drinking martinis, so I may have been impaired.

Lebanese Taverna, Lemon Tree or Mosaic?
I'm a fan of Lebanese Taverna. I usually go to the one in Pentagon City, so I can't speak to Rockville. If you're comfortable with your mother in law, I would suggest ordering a selection fo mezzas for your meal. It is so much more fun to try a bunch of different things.
Dinner in Old Town Alexandria
My best friend is coming down from Manhattan for Labor Day Weekend. We're two 26 year old girls looking for a cool place to have a nice dinner before hitting PX and then maybe a couple other classic Old Town bars (i.e. Murphy's). I suggested Eve, but the menu doesn't suit her, so I'm looking for alternatives. It could be as nice as Eve or a couple of steps down. Sorry, but we are married to Old Town for Saturday night...we have DC plans already for another night. Any suggestions would be fantastic!
Thanks in advance! You guys are great!
PX in Old Town
I did a quick search and have seen PX mentioned as great for cocktails, but no real reviews of the place. Is it really all it's hyped up to be? Is there some secret knock that gets you in the door? Anyone in the know, please spill.
Gracias!
Good seafood in Old Town?
I have always had a good experience at the Charthouse. I believe its a chain, but the food has always been to my liking. It has a nice ambiance, also - if that's important. I went to the Wharf once and it was OK - not amazing. We had a great waiter, so that always makes the experience better.
The Fish Market is a fun place - not amazing food, by any means, but very fun.

But the "Schooner" of beer is a hell of way to start a night! Ha!
Best and Worst for DC Restaurant Week - Master LIst
I have a general restaurant week question - so I hope this is the right place to ask it.
I am allergic to tree nuts - which means basically any nuts that grow in trees and not on the ground. For the most part I can narrow it down to: "I'm allergic to everything, EXCEPT peanuts." Which is unusual - as far as I know.
I've NEVER had a hard time explaining my allergy to a waiter. Typically he or she is more than happy to ask the chef to leave the nuts off. If my dish comes out with the nuts they profusely apologize, make me a new dish and often times take it off my bill (I've never asked them, too - bc its my problem - but they are kind enough to do so).
So - my question...Is it just restaurant week that they refuse to make special arrangements for people with food allergies or are the chefs at this restaurants just really particular about keeping their food in their original state?
It may be something in the preperation and the waiter just didn't tell me. At TenPenh I couldn't get the calamari salad without cashews and at Ceiba I couldn't get the flan without almonds - which was OK, bc the pannacotta was great. I was pretty dissapointed about TenPenh, though.
RW Review: Ceiba
I had Ceiba for lunch today and would like to offer my two cents.
I started with the conch chowder which was good - but not great. My first experience with conch was in key west, so my expectations are high (at least in my mind, ha!). It was more vegies and bacon than conch - just three conch fritters from what i could tell, but the chowder overall had good flavor.
For my entree I had the seared ahi tuna with fried rice. I really enjoyed this. It was served with a GREAT spicy sauce. The presentation was great. The taste was great - I was thrilled.
Dessert was a bit tricky - I'm allergic to tree nuts, so the flan was out. I'm not a huge chocolate dessert fan, so i chose the pannacotta. Unfortunately they were out - so I had to go w/ the chocolate cake. It really wasn't great so I had a bite and left it at that.
Then our overly snooty waiter really surprised me. He brought out a fresh pannacotta. I suppose the chef made more and he felt bad that I had only eaten a bite of my dessert. I really appreciated that he brought it to me. It was delish! It wasn't my favorite dessert of restaurant week, but it's a tie for second!
I'd say its worth a try. Other than the snooty (but apparently kind hearted) waiter and the seat by the kitchen it was a good overall experience.
Brunch in Alexandria?
I would suggest 100 King for brunch on a Sunday. I've been twice - both holidays (Easter and Mother's Day), but it was consistantly good both times. Try the sweet potato ravioli or the mussels as an appetizer. They're both VERY good. I've also eaten the swordfish and the seafood pasta as entrees. I'd have a hard time deciding between the two if/when I go back. I haven't tried dessert, but I'm sure its good. The bloody mary was also quite tasty - spicy.
Its not a view of the river - but its still a cute view onto the quaint street - particularly if you wait for a table near the windows. The upstairs is very pretty, too.
One of the other perks is the live blues singer they have. She's quite good. It seems very loud when you first walk in, but at your table its an enjoyable level. You can't hear it upstairs, though.
Tosca Restaurant Week Reviews?
They have a bar area inside the restaurant that I'm pretty sure you can eat at. It was pretty packed, so be prepared to wait.
They don't offer their full menu. It's is actually pretty limited - which is why I want to go back. There were three options for each course. If you're a vegetarian I would reccomend it, bc they did offer a cheese ravioli dish that sounded quite good.
Tosca Restaurant Week Reviews?
Elyssa - Poste was good for RW. It was good enough it made me want to come back outside of RW. There just so many things on the regular menu I wanted to try that didn't appear on the RW menu.
To start - I had the heirloom tomato gazpatcho (sp?) with dijon mustard ice cream - this was really good and unique. I've had gazpatcho, but the savory ice cream was new for me.
I had the organic pan seared duck for an entree. It was also good - crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside - just what you would want.
For dessert I had the Pot de Creme. This was so tasty! It had the consistancy of a mousse, but was made w/ espresso, mocha and chili. Very yummy!
My date had the same thing - except dessert. He ordered the s'mores. They were very good and fun!
You should check it out!
Sea Catch for RW
Unfortunately, I found out my dining partner doesn't like seafood. (Something I probably should have questioned before making the reservations - but who doesn't like seafood??!!??) So - I moved the reservation to Poste for tonight. rHairing, please let us know how Sea Catch is on Weds. Thanks!
Le Gaulois in Old Town Alexandria
My friend and I were so dissapointed with our appetizers we didn't bother ordering our main course. We did order a bottle of wine that was quite good. We happily finished that and wandered down to 100 King for a main course and another bottle of wine. I'd say it's the best decision we could have made.
