Mountain Deli: Hendersonville, NC

It's in the 300 block of Main street, right in the middle of downtown. Used to be New York Burrito. The owners have spent months renovating the interior and kitchen. It's got a really nice atmosphere, totally different that the burrito shop.

Highlands, NC - good food but budget friendly?

This is no help since I don't remember the name....but there's a GREAT family friendly BBQ joint in Highlands. Alton Brown stopped by on one of his cross-country tours a couple years ago.

EDIT: I Just remembered...it's "Carolina Smokehouse" and it's just down the road (take 64 East) in Cashiers, NC.

Mountain Deli: Hendersonville, NC

Just opened yesterday (6/16/09) and have had lunch twice now.

GREAT carved meats. Yesterday was a very tender, very flavorful corned beef. Today is an outstanding rare roast beef. A co-worker had the turkey and loved it.

Sandwiches are running ~$7 plus $1.50 for a side item or $2.50 for chips, side (slaw, potato salad) and drink. So, it's not cheap.

Beats the heck out of the old burrito shop.

Meats are roasted on site and they have a small but yummy looking deli case.

Taco truck in Hendersonville?

I've been to the one in Horse Shoe several times. It's great! Fast, fresh and you can stuff yourself for less than $4.

Taco truck in Hendersonville?

Has anyone checked out the taco truck that's parked on Spartanburg Hwy, near the Toyota dealer?

Best Thai Food In Asheville,NC

This place is amazing. For once I actually got SPICY Thai in Asheville. I had to reassure them a couple times that I "could take it", but once they were convinced, I was not dissapointed!

The Basil dish and the spicy noodle dish are incredible. The wife is in love with the Cashew dish.

Be warned....call ahead or be ready to to wait ~45 minutes! They truly make everything from scratch and to order. So, if there's an order ahead of yours, it's going to be a while. This is most certainly not a knock, it's more a compliment to their attention to quality.

La Riserva closed - Hendersonville

18 hours a week! I'll take that job! =)

El Pedrino in Hendersonville, NC

This is a very small, very authentic taco stand located on Kanuga just across from Blue Water Seafood. Open lunch hours during the week with lunch and dinner on Sat/Sunday. Seating is limited to a couple of counter height stools.

Wife and I both loved it! I'd have a hard time telling you exactly what I had, other than it was shredded pork cooked in perfectly balanced spicy sauce served on fresh-made-on-the-spot tortillas. I just told the incredibly friendly guy behind the counter that I wanted something spicy and give me whatever he thought I'd like. He chose well.

Wife said the same thing, minus the spice. Her beef tacos were very flavorful. I assume so anyway since she declined to share!

Lunch was served with an "agua fresca" made of tamarind juice.

Served with okay frijoles and rice along with a roasted jalapeno. This place is very reminiscent of the street side stands I've had in Mexico. Highly recommended for a quick, change of pace lunch.

Price for a 2 taco lunch with sides and drink were $4.50. There are a couple other combos ranging from ~$4 - $10.

Daddy D's Suber Soul Food - Hendersonville

It's on 7th Ave. across the street (on the north side) and about 1 block west of One Love. ~ 2 blocks East of 64.

Daddy D's Suber Soul Food - Hendersonville

Anyone been?

I noticed it on my way to One Love the other day and thought I'd check it out.

Small Mom and Pop bakery Asheville/H-ville

You cannot beat MacFarlan's in the 300 block of Main Street in Hendersonville.

Coffee cakes, Danish, rolls, cakes, cookies, doughnuts, breads, etc. All made on site and absolutely horrible for you. They're the best!

FYI, they're closed Monday's.

Cypress Cellar - Hendersonville

I wouldn't exactly call this place "fine dining", more the quick casual atmosphere, so I dont' really expect much.

But, oh my god, I just had the best sandwich. A grilled ham, provolone and carmelized onion panini with some sort of syrup & bourbon reduction. It was a special today, not a normal menu item.

I get lunch here fairly often as it is literally downstairs from the office. I'm always surprised, in a good way, by their lunch specials. The salads and soups are (again whatever's the daily special) always top notch.

Funny thing is that nothing on the actual menu really excites me.

Mezzaluna - Hendersonville, NC

Not much to add, everyone pretty much summed it up correctly as being "ehhh....okay, I guess."

Thought I'd point out that I'm convinced our waitress was stoned on Saturday. Several long, uncomfortable, moments where she just stared at us.

And the stuffed/roasted banana peppers that sounds very promising? Yuck.

Tacos in Asheville Area

There's a place in Marshall called French Broad Taqueria. Best fish tacos I've had this side of SoCal. And their carnitas are outstanding.

There was a review of them on this board not too long ago and here's a link to the Mountain Express review: http://www.mountainx.com/dining/2007/122607fbt

Champa Sushi & Thai, Hendersonville, NC

Had lunch again today, and again enjoyed it. I'd suggest folks give it a try at least once rather than rely on another's more exacting standards. This is Hendersonville after all; not Bangkok. Go and see if you enjoy it for what it is. Just my $0.02.

Also, they've been open for all of 2 days. Give them a chance to work it out before writing them off.

Anyone been to Hubba Hubba in Hendersonville, NC?

Went this past Friday and loved it!

The pulled pork was terrific. Not the soft (almost pre-chewed) consistency that you get some places. This was like a backyard pig pickin' to me.

Loved the corn bread. The "sauteed slaw" was a greens and onion kind of thing that I enjoyed.

The ribs....ohmygodgood. Thick, terrific dry pepper rub with their chipotle sauce was great. Very meaty.

Now, I would not put them ahead of 12 Bones in the rib department. The slab I got at Hubba Hubba were right up there with the best, but there was only 1 choice (dry rub). There is no way that you can get anything better than 12 Bones' Blueberry ribs and their (12 Bones) choices of rubs and sauces is gonna be very hard to beat.

Absolutely will make Hubba Hubba a regular stop.

Champa Sushi & Thai, Hendersonville, NC

oh yeah, price.

Lunch Special was $8 and ~1.50 or so for a tea.

Champa Sushi & Thai, Hendersonville, NC

Just opened today! In the old Park Deli location.

They've done a major remodel inside; no remnants of the Park Deli at all. Nice, upscale atmosphere. Full bar and separate sushi bar. Seating for 200.

Co-worker had the Pad Thai (chicken) and said is was "good; okay".

I got the Thai Basil Red Chili.....it was very good! Decent lunch portion, lots of chicken. And, most importantly, when I asked for "extra spicy", it came extra spicy. That's why I gave up on Thai Spice; they refused to use spice.

I know some posters on this board look for authenticity. I can't claim to know what authentic Thai is like, but I really enjoyed this.

Etowah, NC restaurants?

Julie's and Dutch Cupboard are both typical 2 eggs, meat, potato, grits type breakfast places. Think Denny's. Good for what it is, just don't expect anything more.

I live behind Cummins Cove and drive to the Pancake Inn (behind the hotels near the H'vill Wally World) if I want good breakfast. If I want REALLY good breakfast, it's Over Easy in Asheville.

On a side note, Julie's Subs has jut ungodly huge hamburgers. They're pretty yummy.

Good Lunch places near I-85 between Greenville, SC and Spartanburg?

If you're into Lebanese (baklava, shish kabob, etc.), try The Pita House on Woodruff.

Very yummy.

Asheville/Ice Cream - Ultimate - the best!

my god this place is incredible. seriously. how did it take me 4 years of living here to try this place?

Fresh Plum gelato anyone? Absolutely amazing. Like grabbing a fresh plum out of the fridge. The almond mocha concoction had so many almonds that you had to chew the ice cream.

Unbelievable. A must try.

Dinner for 1 in WPB, Lake Worth area

Hey y'all...I'm in town (from Asheville, NC) on business this week. Any suggestions for a single diner in the area? Something where eating at the bar or a table for 1 isn't going to be too out of place?

Good Thai, or a steakhouse, italian, LEBANESE....just about any genre as long as it's well prepared.

Thanks, and cheers!

Tim

ATTN:asheville hounds- fantastic taqueria in marshall

I also lunched there on Saturday...headed to Asheville (from Hendersonville) for some chores and just kept going on to Marshall based on this board's reviews.

Between the wife and I we had the trout (menu item, not the grilled special), carnitas, beef (brisket?) and sweet potato/portobello. Each one was great. The trout with jalapeƱo sauce was by far the tastiest fish taco I've had outside of SoCal.

The carnitas was the only thing that came close to just "good"; it didn't knock my socks off. The queso dip was good but not exceptional.

Service was great, it was standing room only while I was there but the staff was very friendly and quick.

I don't think I'd make this place a destination, but if you're anywhere close it would be high on my list.

Thai Spice Hendersonville NC

Ordered lunch for delivery yesterday. Just Chicken Pad Thai. It was terrific! Very flavorful.

But, again I emphasized "extra spicy" when I ordered and it was delivered barely medium spicy. I think they just don't believe that someone around here likes spicy stuff.

The delivery was prompt and without any extra charge, which is nice. The "no extra charge" was more than off-set with a $9 charge for lunch portion of pad thai. So, throw in a coke and tip, and it was a $14 lunch.

Thai Spice Hendersonville NC

Took the wife and infant there on Friday 12/29 and saw a lot of promise. Very friendly, great service. You can't see any remnants of the old Peddler at all.

The wife had chicken with the Panang Curry and thought it was perfect. I"m not a big coconut kind of guy, so I shouldn't comment on that dish.

I got pork with Fresh Basil and thought it was good. Started out great, but finished kind of salty to my preference. The veggies were very fresh and the meat was well prepared.

I'll echo another post on this board about spiciness. I asked for "extra spicy" and got what would be be called "medium". When I mentioned that the waiter promptly brought out a few sauces for me to dress things up. This could also account for the saltiness that I ended with, I think I overloaded one of the extra sauces.

We had satay for an appetizer and thought it was very good. The peanut sauce was excellent.

Staff was very accommodating with our infant. He's pretty good in restaurants since we feed him in the parking lot before going in so he's nice and full/sleepy. The owner brought out a plate of rice and soft veggies for him on the house. Not necessary, but very nice.

All in all it's definitely a work in process, but I got the impression that it will be a great place very shortly.

BBQ in Asheville. Recs needed for dinner

Yeah, it's not the best around, but for what I gethered Brit was after, it would be a good trip. Cute little mountain town right that could double as Mayberry with a decent, not great, bbq.

When I'm in Saluda, it's usually the Purple Onion unless I"ve got out of towners with me that want "NC BBQ"

BBQ in Asheville. Recs needed for dinner

If you don't care to "see" Asheville, you might consider heading another 30 minutes down the road to Saluda to go to Green River Barbeque.

Neat little town and an out-of-the-way feeling bbq shack.

DOH! just figured out I'm a day late with this....sorry.

One Love Jamaican Restaurant, Hendersonville, NC

Good Good Good.

This place is just really really good.

Had the Jerk Pork per the counterperson's recommendation. It was great, the staff was very friendly. I'll definitely be back.

Funny thing....was surprised to see a table of ~8 gray haired old white ladies digging in! They really seemed to be enjoying it.

Square Root, Brevard, NC

we'll go back for sure. After I was turned off by our guy, I watched the rest of the wait staff to see if it was just him/us or what. Everyone seemed to be doing a great job.

Best Place to Buy Seafood In Asheville?

Check out Blue Water Seafood in Hendersonville. 25 mins. down the road, but incredibly fresh and friendly.
