Health food around Encino

Thanks for the tips!

I got to California Chicken Cafe for lunch every now and then. Their chicken wrap is delicious (its a close call between their wrap and the California wrap at Roman's). The place is always packed at lunchtime. Takes about 10-15 mins to get the takeout order.

Absolutely Phobulous is just opposite work and I go there at least once a week. I really like their fried rice.

Any sushi/sashimi salad places you would recommend around the area?

Health food around Encino

Since I have been on a workout regime recently I am trying to find more healthy alternatives to eating out. Currently I have been going to Cho Cho San in Tarzana twice a week after kickboxing for sushi and sashimi. ( I like that place a little too much)

Does anyone have other suggestions of places around Encino? It would be great to have a nice little selection of different food options. Non red meat low-cholesterol cuisine is preferred.

Whats your favorite Tea Cafe? Why?

Hugo's in studio city has a good selection of organic teas. They sell and serve teas. http://www.hugosrestaurant.com/

I am not a tea nut but they have a large selection. http://www.hugosrestaurant.com/menu-teas.html

Classy Indian joint?

It ended up being slightly over $100 for 3 of us. They didn't charge us for the potatoes since some of the bread came late. Service was scattered but it didn't bother us much since we were busy talking.

Classy Indian joint?

Alright, so I went to Chakra on a Sunday night with 2 friends. Surprisingly there was only one group eating on the patio. Everything inside was eerily quiet.

The waitress was serving for the first time so she apologized before hand. We started off with a plate of samosas and mango lassi. The fried skin on the samosa was not very traditional, it seemed way more like an eggroll. Somewhat disappointing but the insides were tasty and it was very well plated. It sort of set up our expectations for what we will be getting later in the night.

We ordered Paneer Tikka (a first course), Shrimp Kadhai (from the traditional courses) and Dhaba ka Murgh (from the modern menu). Also, got a plate of garlic naan and parathas. They forgot the paratha order and we got it much later. They looked like fried naan which is really not what a paratha should be (usually way thinner).

The Paneer Tikka was delicious; served on top of two sauces and a side salad. My friends equated it to some kind of gourmet Mozzarella cheese. Again, very well plated.

The Shrimp Kadhai was in a pool of red spicy sauce, goes great when the naan is dipped in it. The shrimp large, juicy, clean and well soaked in the sauce. Very enjoyable.

Dhaba ka Murgh was served kabab style on a long plate with a thin bed of rice and chick peas. The chicken was very well done, and the rice was a little too strong on the spices; went great when mixed in with plain rice.

Since we got the bread later, we were left with a huge amount of bread and nothing to go along with it. So I picked some Dosai potatoes to go along with the paratha. The potatoes were a part of a lamb course but I just ordered it separately for the 3 of us. It was a good choice.

We got some pineapple cake for desert and that was well made.

Overall, I have never had Indian food that was so well plated. In fact, I don't think Indian food really should be plated like that. But other than that the food was delicious and we got to try a wide assortment.

After the potatoes I'm ready to try some Dosa at Maurya's :)

Classy Indian joint?

Will do; since I am Indian myself maybe I'll be able to shed some light on the food as well.

Classy Indian joint?

Thanks a lot guys.

Classy Indian joint?

I had a friend treat me to a great Korean dinner at Woo Lae Oak. So I am trying to find an Indian place of equal stature to give him a taste of Indian cuisine. I know some good Indian joints around work in Encino but none as classy as Woo Lae Wok. If anyone can recommend an upscale Indian restaurant (where the food is good as well -- not some crazy expensive and totally not worth enjoying cuisine) then that would be much appreciated :)
