Park Avenue Autumn: feeling a little guilty about a free bottle of wine!
STOP! Stop listening to these restaurant sympathizers! They made a mistake and it is NOT your job to correct it. After all, the bottle was only $65 and they probably paid less than $30-if that. The service sucked, too bad for them. FrankJBN-back off. I am beside myself that people here think you should go back and pay. IF you decided to tell them their error then, at the table-fine pay the money. But it's too late now. Enjoy the error in your favor and know that soon enough you'll be overcharged for something else.
Are food bloggers taking pictures annoying?
I think taking pics of the food is tacky. Im a blogger too, but I'm not too concerned with the food. And even if I was, it seems like when people take pics of the food they are making the dining experience sterile and too technical. Let's leave our iPHONES and dig cams in our purses please and use the thousands of words in the Enlish language to describe the food.
Confused- Moustache and Little Owl
Try Pinto on Chris and Bedford. Its Thai and supposed to be great. I'm going tonight.
New silverware for each course?
it really depends on the "show" the restaurant wants to put on. if it is as formal as you say then yes, the silvers should be changed at every new course. but it all depends. let up know how it goes...
Does a place lose its appeal to you AFTER It's been on Food Network?
good food is good food. usually places on the FN aren't all that great to begin with-so nothing to worry about there.
restaurant etiquette
the trend these days is floating farther and farther away from the fine dining etiquiette of yesteryear. go ahead order what you want, drink what you want, laugh out loud. now the focus is al on the food-so relax a little. But please follow the common sense rules and keep your cell on vibrate, say thank you and leave a decent tip.
Perry Street for lunch: review
I love the lunch at P too-but the gazpacho is strawberry, not watermelon. I think you got it right by saying that they have "fun" on their mind...I totally agree.
NYers- what restaurants would you defend no matter what?
I would'nt fight for restaurants, but the chefs instead. And besides my own, I'd fight til the death for Vongo and Boulud.
Best bread and butter basket?
Del Posto all the way. The lard was scary at first, but just pretend its butter. The bread is amazing.
Do you think I should have been comped?
I totally agree with whs and you too homecook1. I'm an eastecoaster and I would have been brawling all over the place. And it's not too late. Listen, 'Oracle' you need to call them and go off. That is ridiculous and over-annoying. Hey, if you want I'll make the call for you.
Top Chef-is anyone else upset about how they are sending home contestants?!?!
Aw, I like Howie! Why do many-Howie haters in here? I think he's a decent chef, from what a television can show me, which is close to nothing. But still, he speaks his mind, he's tough and no nonsense-like the real deal. And I wouldn't worry about Lia, remember-she's a chef at JG. Vongo's got her back.
Visiting and eating for 1 week in NYC - what not to miss?
Wow-it seems like you already have an impressive list of hot spots and classics. I agree completely will suggestions for Degustation and anti-suggestions for Oyster Bar in GrandCentral-too cheezy. Otto tends to be very crowded, even around dessert time. But if its during the week, you should be fine. Otto also has a nice cheese selection for dessert. Enjoy your stay-let us know how it goes will you?
Big Brother at the Restaurant?
I know that some places have cameras on the tables to see when each course is coming to a close. It better prepares them to keep the service flowing. But I have to say mics are not used to my knowledge...but it is an ever changing world.
What do Chowhounds do for a living (besides eat of course)?
DesperateChefsWives-so duh, my husband is a NYC chef
I'm a teacher-2nd grade
Favorite cooking word or phrase?
immersion circulator, there is something romantic about that thing
Is Cafe des Artistes any good?
So it seems everyone here is hating on the decor of Cafe des Artistes. WHY? Sure it's dated, but its Cafe des ARTISTES; it is based on a rich history of artists and it has murals on the walls. After some of the stainless steal things some restauratuers try to pass off as hip, it's nice to feel comfortable. I went during restaurant week for a $35 prix fixe menu that is still on the menu currently.
small plates dinner for gf bday
Oh yeah, Degustation is perfect for you. The Desperate Chefs Wives love Wesley as well. He'll be the handsome Spanish chef just a few feet away.
Special occasion: Le Bernadin, WD-50 or Union Square
I would also scratch WD50. When eating there, the FOOD is the special occasion and I doubt that you want to shadow what you are truly celebrating. Go back there at another time when you can focus on the food.
