New to Hermosa/Manhattan Area

OK my fellow hounders. There are a couple of very old strings regarding Hermosa/Manhattan recommendations. I just moved to Hermosa and want to know where the good chow is and where the locals go. Local taco/burrito, local coffee, good fish, sushi, local dive bar, etc. I have faith in you guys.

Holiday lunch recommendations please

I'm at a loss in finding a nice lunch spot. All my "go to" restaurants I like are not open for lunch. I'm taking my family and elderly mother so please, nothing loud or tacos on the menu. Between Del Mar and SD. Great food, nice atmosphere, etc.

Four days in San Diego

To get off topic, just some local advice. Knowing you are traveling with your son, the Dolphin Motel is a bit on the seedy side, hourly rates, etc. There are many other affordable motels in the area that might be better. Hotel Circle, Old Town are 2 other areas to look.

San Diego Trip

I recommend staying at the US Grant downtown. Great bar and bartenders who know there stuff in the lobby bar. Then you are close to Cafe Chloe for late breakfast and Cowboy Star for dinner. And sneak into Noble Experiment for late night 'nightcap'. Craft and Commerce for Sunday brunch.

Bagels in San Diego

I'm surprised about all the favorable reviews on Top of the Bagel. Is this still the case or did they change management? I was disappointed on last visit.

A SoCal Oktoberfest

Was at the El Cajon one last weekend with a buddy visting from Munich. He even liked it. Very fun indeed and you are not corralled in a beer garden. You can walk around anywhere with dunkels in hand. It's at the German-American clubhouse so you know its going to be better then most. Have fun!!

Columbia area biz dinner and fun dinner in Balt/DC area

Hello, I am putting together a business dinner for 6 in the Columbia area. Any recommendations for a good restaurant? Non-chain with great food. Doesn't need to be too stiff. Also, I have next night free. Looking for a fun and great food restaurant in Balt/DC area. Any crab shack places to visit?

Thanks

Kaito Sushi-Solo Omakase?

I ate at Sushi Kaito with a party of about 8. I was really looking forward to the food and as much as the food we did have was good, the horrendous service we recieved from the male server totally affected the evening. He could not recommend any items and some items we read in chowhound that we asked for, they couldn't make. Plus we couldn't appreciate his snarky attitude he had the moment we sat. I am sure I will be back for the food but not anytime soon.

Tap Rooms in San Diego

Yes to what Josh said. To narrow it down even further, 30th Streeet in North Park/Uni Hghts is considered beer alley. Best tap rooms in the city. Blind Lady, Auld Sod for best Guinness, Tornados, Small Bar, Hamiltons. Have fun.

Pacific Coast Grill Move

So PCG is moving to old Charlies in Cardiff. Sad to see it move as I am walking distance to original location and enjoy PCG's Happy Hour. Not so much their dinners. Does anyone know what is going into the old Solana Beach location? Please not another sushi restaurant.

birthday dinner for 5 year old in Carlsbad - any ideas?

Pizza Port. Its loud and the kids can run around. Good beer for the adults too. You will need it after Legoland.

New movement in Encinitas

Lot of good stuff happening in Encinitas. Urban Solace, 5 Guys, PCG Move to Cardiff. What I want to know is what is going in the old When In Rome Space? It says 101 Ale House but there is Encinitas Ale House steps away. I love Encinitas Ale House for the beer but the food is inconsistent and service is not the most friendly. I swear I got 3 whole onion rings one time as my side and my server just said, sorry, thats all you get. They have a good thing going, they just need to step it up a notch.

New site for Pacific Coast Grill in Cardiff

Speaking of dives, I miss the Surf-n-Saddle. McCaffrey sucks. They close way too early and creepy patrons. As for PCG, I like their happy hours. Decent food and reasonably priced. Good martinis too. I've been raking my brain trying to remember what was in the Yogi's location prior to them and even prior to the Italian\seafood place before them.

Del Mar help

Skip Jakes. 1540 and The Market for sure. I even like Sbicca. Half off wine nights on Tues and Thurs. And since you have no problem splurging, get some takeout from Prep Kitchen and have a sunset picnic at Powerhouse park.

Solana Beach eats?

You will need to leave SB for good food, unfortunately. Only place I recommend is Pizza Port with OK pizza (not great) and really great microbrewed beer. On the same level, go to the bar at Brigatine, (technically Del Mar) and order fish tacos. (cheaper during happy hour) As for good restaurants, The Market in Rancho Santa and 1540 in Del Mar are outstanding.

Now for bars, Tidewater is the only game in town. McCaffrey's is ridiculously stupid and shouldn't even call themselves a bar. Yes, I miss the Surf-n-Saddle. I like the martinis and Pacific Coast Grill.

Which beach for excellent food?

I agree. There are so many better beaches elsewhere.. Same with the food. Eat in LJ, OB, Del Mar or anywhere else for that matter. Meanwhile, I love my peaceful, empty beaches and surf breaks of SB. (oops, did I say that out loud?)

Recommends for inexpensive prewedding family dinner Downtown

I am probably looking at around $20-25 per person, drinks excluded. I know thats not alot and really limits the options but we just want to keep the costs down. Thanks!

Beach Chick-I do hear Bali Hai's mai tai's are good but what about the food? I havent been there in years and seems more about the mai tai and view and less about food. I hope I'm wrong about that.
