Best Gumbo to be had for Lunch??

Cochon is the best these days that we have tried with Herbsaint coming in a close 2nd. We have been eating multiple gumbos every trip and so far those two are the winners(La Provence) is also pretty amazing! If there is somewhere else we need to go(we are coming in this Fri) please tell us. Can't wait!!!

Hubby & I were there 3 mo. ago & asked for gumbo recs and you guys did such a phenomenal job that I am asking for your help again. Coming in this Friday(Dec3rd) and leaving Sun. around noonish. Husband is enamored with Cochon(after the shrimp gumbo w/deviled egg), so I figure we will go there Fri. night, then am thinking about Parkway bakery for poboys for lunch Sat. Question about where to go Sat night Green Goddess???Boucherie? Meeting his cousins from Baton Rouge so we don't want to get too fancy but just GREAT FOOD. They are good cajun folks and we want to give them a good meal, but not overly pricey like August. We ALL love good food, so I am depending on y'all to help us as to where to go. Hubby loves great gumbo!!!!!!!!!!Last trip we went to Cafe Adelaide, Bon Ton, Mr. B's, Mothers, Brightsens, Herbsaint, Cochon, August, and one other I can't remember the name. Any suggestions are appreciated.

HUGE thanks to the chowhounds!

Def. not alone-the darkness & richness just hit the spot after some really disappointing ones to me. But the shrimp & deviled egg one at Cochon was killer good! Reminded us of old time Cajun gumbo where my hubby's Mother would drop a raw egg at the end of the gumbo & let if soft boil-then everyone would get an egg in their gumbo bowl-yum! Wish I had one right now...

HUGE thanks to the chowhounds!

It was really fun but we were happy to go to Jambalaya festival in Gonzales on Sat. Five meal a day, now THAT is dedication! Was it just because you love food? and like us wanted to eat at all the good places? Did we miss any we should have hit?

HUGE thanks to the chowhounds!

Well, we had a very successful NO eating visit because of the chows! Remember we wanted the BEST gumbo in NO! First, we went to Abita Brewery tour in Abita Springs & boy was it fun! Loved all the Abita beers and you could drink as many or as much as you wanted! Great Abita gifts also. We LOVED Andygator & Golden & mixing Turbo dog & Purple haze together. Husb. liked IPA & amber.
Dinner started out at Brightsens and Patois Thurs night. Yes, you heard right-we went to 2 restaurants per meal. We are eating fools but we wanted to eat at as many as we could in a short time. We only had Thurs & Fri to test gumbos. Both gumbos were pretty good but nothing to scream about. Loved the atmosphere at both places but remember we were only interested in GUMBO! Great Sazerac at Brightsens and Wilde Julep at Patois! No breakfast(saving up for lunch) we took a slight different approach to lunch-we had 3 restaurants to eat at so husb went to Mothers and I went to Bon Ton and then we met up to eat together at Herbsaint. Husb liked Mothers & Bon Ton was ok(real old-timey type gumbo) People were fantastic-really nice! but when we got to Herbsaint...well, incredible! Duck and andouille-dark & rich and just right!!!!!!! Donald Link just knows how to do it! Lots of depth and very flavorful! We LOVED it! So then Fri night we had a reserv at Mr. B's- gumbo ya-ya was good but the 1-1-1 app. was FAB. Now I know we were just supposed to be eating gumbo, but I could not help myself and I was not disappointed! Then our last gumbo was at Cochon for Shrimp and deviled egg gumbo. Boy, was this good. Husb said it reminded him of his cajun Mother's gumbo because she always dropped a raw egg in at the end and then they always had potato salad with their gumbo. This was incredible. A deviled egg was nestled into the gumbo. Just talking about it makes we want a bowl right now! We ate all that in a day and a half and just had a blast! NO is back in a big way & we are so glad since we are both from Baton Rouge. Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions-we loved every minute of it because of ya'll.

We will put Patois on the list also-keeps coming up-We will def do Prejeans when we do the Laf. gumbo run. We haven't been in a few years & look forward to that trip also.
