Visitor from Italy - where to eat?

Not sure why you guys are acting like I'm opposing this concept. She'll be here for 42 meals, including 3 in NYC. I have lots of great ideas for my local area (BTW we're Italian by heritage but are partners in a highly-rated Malaysian restaurant which was rated among the top 100 in the DC area by Washingtonian Mag, so I'm not opposed to other cuisines). I've eaten at Babbo, Del Posto, Esca and several other Italian restaurants in NYC. I'd like to try one that I haven't visited already. We will be trying one Italian restaurant, so if anyone would like to recommend one I'd be grateful.

Visitor from Italy - where to eat?

My cousin is from Campobasso.

Thanks for all the advice to avoid Italian, which I certainly intend to do for the entire 2 weeks... NO visits to Baltimore's 'Little Italy', no spaghetti factories. But I did want to show her the best of what the US has to offer, and where better to do it than in NYC?

Visitor from Italy - where to eat?

good point, although she'll be here for 2 weeks and we'll be exploring lots of options in DC, Philly and Rehoboth Beach which are not Italian... and we'll be doing a lunch in NYC at a non-Italian restaurant. So I'd like to expose her to the best that NYC has to offer in terms of Italian... and I'm certainly open to other suggestions other than the ones listed above.

Visitor from Italy - where to eat?

Our Italian cousin (23 year old medical student) is visiting us in DC and we have 24 hours in NYC planned for late July. I'm looking at L'Artusi, Osteria Morini, and Lupa, and would love feedback from people who have possibly been to all 3. Also open to other suggestions. Grazie mille for any advice you can provide!

HELP! Need a REAL Italian place in New Haven for this weekend.

We're from New Haven but haven't lived there in many, many years. My memories are of great mom-and-pop type restaurants with escarole and beans, veal parmigiana, eggplant, great pastas, etc. on the menu. Not frou-frou, not too fancy, just great down home Italian food. Can anybody recommend a place for that in New Haven or East Haven? I'm bringing a group of friends into town to go to Pepe's (they've heard about it for so many years and want to try it) but we need a second place to go for a late lunch on Sunday. Thanks in advance for your help!

North Haven-Wallingford-Meriden axis of eats

I would highly recommend J. Christian's in Wallingford. Absolutely wonderful food, great service, and very reasonably priced. We came in from out of town and had one of our best meals there. We also had a good meal at Fratelli's, although not remotely in the same league as J. Christian's.

Catering in B-more/Columbia??

Asean Bistro will provide both food and staff... of course they also just do delivery, but they have the whole shebang, including a chef that will cook for you on site (I think).

Columbia - Bun Penny and Produce Galore still catering?

Jesse Wong's Asean Bistro in Columbia does a great job of catering. Reasonable and people go nuts for the food. I've done a party with them and it was fantastic. They were just rated in the top 100 restaurants in the DC area by the Washingtonian. Highly recommended.

Catering in B-more/Columbia??

Jesse Wong's Asean Bistro does a great job of catering and is very reasonable for what you get. I was just reading the January issue of Washingtonian and was pleasantly surprised that they were listed in the top 100 restaurants in the DC area. Rightly so, their food is amazing. But they will do off-site catering, we had them for a party and people went absolutely nuts for it. They are located right there in Columbia.

Venice: The Great Binge of '09

We did several of those in our last few trips, this time we're focusing on places we've never been (except for Venice). I'm having good luck with Faith Willinger's book "Adventures of an Italian Food Lover", there are lots of recos in there. We're pretty good at sniffing out great places so I'm not worried, I just like to have the benefit of expert opinions wherever we go. Grazie!

Venice: The Great Binge of '09

Thanks Jen and Joe. I have reservations at Alle Testiere, Al Covo, Il Refolo, Al Mascaron, Il Ridotto, Le Calandre and I'm waiting to hear back from Agli Angeli. You guys have been a huge help! I'll be sure to write about our meals when I return in July.
Grazie e ciao!

Venice: The Great Binge of '09

Joe, thank you so much for this wonderful post! We are leaving for Venice 2 weeks from today and are overwhelmed with decisions. We'll be in Italy for a month and a half and are struggling to get resto reservations in advance for the critical places that we need to try. I just put several of your picks on our list.

Have you been to Mascaron? Also, do you have any recommendations for any of the following locales: Puglia, The Lakes, Elba, or Sardinia? It's a long trip and we're covering a lot of ground, but food is our top priority (oh yeah, and wine). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Ciao 4 now, Lynn
