We had a great time and although it's not a meal place, I have to put a shout out for Cork and Bean -

http://www.brysoncitycorkandbean.com/

They make tons of great apps fresh. They were mixing up a batch of hummus when I was there. They have wine and coffee and tea, plus dairy free and gluten free baked goods. I was stunned. It is really a terrific oasis in the town!

Should add thet La Pietra Cucina is fab Italian, but it is a bit farther into the city so the drive might be prohibitive.

Can't pick a restaurant for my own birthday!

Am I too late? Decatur's Cakes and Ale is amazing food, well-priced and very intimate and cozy. Lots of fun places to walk off the wine too! ;)

Help with Dinner/Drinks/Dancing in Atlanta

I feel like Italian and Tex Mex are two areas where Atlanta is pretty weak. Others will weigh in (and surely someone will say Nuevo Laredo) but I have lived in TX and I just won't eat Tex Mex here at all.

If she likes good food you could easily get to Decatur and hit Cakes and Ale or Watershed and then if the timing works, Eddie's Attic is nearby and they have terrific live music.

If you can get to Buckhead then (on the more North side of B-head) - BluePointe is mainly Asian fusion-ish and has a fun vibe, IMO. Same thing with Kyma which is terrific Greek food and unique wines.

Virginia-Highlands (neighborhood / retail area) is another option. There are a lot of bars in the area and you guys could kind of wander. The whole area has a great vibe. Again, if Asian is in the mix then Nam at 10th and Monroe is terrific and close to the Highlands.

I fall into that age range and sadly, know of no clubs to mention! Cafe Intermezzo in Buckhead would be a fun after dinner spot to hit for wine and / or desserts.

Hoping someone hipper than I can weigh in too!

HAVE FUN!!

We are heading to Bryson City for a weekend visit. Any eateries worth hitting? Our lodging has a full kitchen but if there is something we shouldn't miss, I would rather not!

Thanks!

Han Il Kwan is overlooked and terrific. Also Buford Hwy.

Dining in Buckhead

Verde Taqueria is not too far away in Brookhaven and is very family friendly.

For some kitschy Southern you could try The Colonnade on Cheshire Bridge.

Bacchanalia is not open on Monday. I think it is a must visit, so you may need to rearrange.

Recommendations sought for professional dinner for 8 in NW Atlanta

Ditto on Blue Ridge. They are TERRIFIC with professional gatherings. I have attended board meetings and also had smallish meetings there. Nothing but great things to say.

Vegetarian in buckhead

Cafe Sunflower is terrific.

Although a bit more Midtown and less Buckhead, Miller Union is a great hot spot with a fabulous veggie plate. The chef will definitely adapt for special requests too, in my experience. It's very farm-to-table and they showcase veggies nicely.

Best Ethopian in ATL?

Meskerem is solid, but the Ethiopians who staff Whole Foods Mkt on Briarcliff swear by Desta.

In town for a wedding at Emory University Conference Center

Oh heavens, that's a softball. Head over to Emory Village at the Oxford Road / N Decatur intersection and enjoy Rise-n-Dine. Delish!

Some questions about Atlanta.

Floataway is fantastic. It will not disappoint.

I feel like I say it over and over again on this list, but Cakes & Ale serves some of the best food I have ever had (period) and it is so well-priced.

We get to only have ONE dinner in Atlanta......where should we eat? PS...we have three kids...

Six Feet Under by Oakland Cemetery is kid friendly and a the food is solid. It's near the Zoo too.

I have kids in the under 6 set too and I would absolutely take them to Watershed if we got there early. Same with Cakes & Ale that is right up the street from Watershed. Both are in Decatur and most Decatur spots are pretty great with kiddos. Farmburger is nearby too. Excellent.

South City Kitchen is in Midtown and again, if you went early enough, kids would be okay there (although less so than the previous 3 spots.)

Rias, Sun in my Belly, Thumbs Up - all solid for breakfast. Rise & Dine in the Emory area is also fantastic.

Is Table 1280 worth a visit?

You could do very well for yourself on $51 at Cakes & Ale in Decatur. Hubby and I just spent $58 on an amazing meal with 2 apps, beer for one and 2 great entrees. We were floored.

Please help me decide

For something different, maybe Antico Pizza Napoletanta on Hemphill. Seating can be dicey and I believe it is still BYOB, but the raves just keep coming and coming. Rumi's Kitchen might be fun for some Persian fare.

Favorite Atlanta Spot that is Never Mentioned

I feel like Sushi House Hayakawa and Penang (both Buford Hwy spots) are under-recognized for their sushi and Malaysian fare, respectively.

Han Il-Kwan is fantastic Korean food that I never see mentioned. Also Buford Hwy.

I will keep thinking. Fun post.

Cakes + Ale is a must visit! Excellent farm to table food, great atmosphere.

Try the new Farmburger which is down the road from C+A too. Another great farm to table spot.

Sawicki's for great sandwiches. (Next door to C+A.)

sandwiches decaturish

Sawicki's in Decatur is a great spot for sandwiches and all sorts of other foodie fun. It's near Cakes + Ale, down from Taco Mac.

The Mercantile on DeKalb Ave has amazing specials and a very solid sandwich menu.

Nectar in either Oakhurst or Clairmont/N Decatur serves great panini. (And if you go to the Clairmont location, pop in the Bhojanic Market next door for some fun Indian takeaway.)

Midweek organic farmers market?

There is one on the Emory University campus on Tuesdays.

http://www.emory.edu/dining/emory_far...

It won't help you now because of the summer break but it gears back up in late August with a fun tomato event.

Best of Sunday night

Hubby and I are celebrating a special occasion which falls on a Sunday night. Sigh. Other nights are not a viable option due to childcare. Our fave spots (Bacchanalia, Floataway, Cakes + Ale) aren't open on Sunday evenings.

Any suggestions for Sunday night fun?

We love farm-to-table but also love ethnic. We just have to maximize the opportunity ... reference the aforementioned childcare issues!
