Good Bottle Shops for Beer in DC area

Hi everyone,

I am going to be in the DC area (from the West Coast) in a couple weeks and wanted to bring back some East Coast beer. Any suggestions on bottle shops with a good selection??? Not looking for tap rooms or draft... just bottle shops.

I am particularly looking for Founders KBS (Kentucky Breakfast Stout).

Thanks!

Tap Rooms in San Diego

Going to be down in San Diego next month for a visit. Does anyone have some thoughts on good tap rooms in the area? Not looking for breweries... looking for somewhere that has a large and unique set up on draft.

Thanks!

Going to Oregon! Need beer...

In a couple weeks I'll be going to Oregon for an 8 day road trip. I'll go through Bend, Portland, then down the coast. Being that I will be in the heart of craft brew country I was hoping to get some suggestions on the best breweries in the area.

Any places I shouldn't miss? Any general suggestions?

Thanks!

Beginning Homebrew Advice

Hi Everyone,

So yesterday I made my first batch of homebrew, an American Brown Ale. Everything seemed to go ok so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

I thought I would reach out and ask what advice can you give to a beginning homebrewer? I read about 1/2 of How to Brew by Palmer (which is great btw) but like any hobby each person has their own style or way of doing things. So what is some wisdom you could share that may not be in a book? One of the areas I know was important is sanitation, I struggled with this area. Not so much in getting stuff sanitized but making sure that stuff stays sanitized.

Thanks!

Any good strawberries yet this year?

The farmers Market at the College of San Mateo had several vendors selling really good looking strawberries. Overall it is a pretty good market too.

Overpriced, or Worth It?

I did the same thing for years and I can tell you that I love having a stand mixer! To be honest I haven't used my hand mixer for two years now. It is very much worth the money since it sounds like you plan on using it. If you have a Cost-Co in your area and are a member try there for a deal. They have them pretty regularly and usually have the second to highest model for around $300 (which is $75 cheaper then anywhere else I have seen it).

Brew Supply in the Bay Area

Hi Everyone,

Anyone have recommendations for brew supply in the Bay Area? Wanted to try my hand at homebrewing, so wanted a place with a good staff to get me started without selling me the store. Willing to drive to get good services.

Thanks!

Pasadena is weak!

Lived in Pasadena for most of my life... there are some damn good places to eat. To be honest many of my Pasadena brotheren have pointed out many so I am not going to relist. Why I am writing is for all those that diss Pasadena after hitting up the tendy places and say Pasadena sucks! Yes those places suck and no Pasadena it not New York or SF but there are some good eats!!! Some cheap some not so... One thing I disagree is Cafe Santorini, I love that place! Is it the best place I have EVER eaten... no but they do have good food and at good Pasadena prices.
