i didnt say anything....he is not the uh....easiest guy to talk to.

the tips are not a substantial part of my income, we do get a good hourly, but it so interesting to see the difference event by event. i am telling you, alot of open bars people throw money at you. its interesting reading everyones thoughts.

when i bartend i make $15 a hour. we do not get any flat gratuity at the end of the night. unless my boss is keeping it...

i work at a catering/banquet hall where we have all sorts of parties ( wedding, bday, retirement, corporate functions, etc...)

when the bar is open, there is 3 choices:

1. cash bar
2. open bar & the bartender doesnt ring up anything in the register
3. open bar & the bartender does ring up every item, but doesnt charge guests but the host gets a extra bill at the end for those drinks rung up.

and let me say when its open bar, sometimes the host requests NO tip jar.

now, im always curious ( and sometimes totally pissed! ) about how the tipping goes.

when there is a cash bar, there is always a tip jar and i always get tipped ( some better than others of course...actually, last night a lady gave me .50 cents on a $7 mixed cocktail. )

when its open bar it goes both ways...and sometimes to the extreme. some people would think with a open bar people are super generous and throw money at you. that happens sometimes...and im very grateful. sometimes there is a open bar and not ONE person all night gives you a dime. its weird.

last week we did a huge funeral-after-party where there were 150 people. it was an open bar and the host said no tip jar because she was going to "tip us out" so last night when i was at work i asked the manager if the people had paid the bill yet and how much did she leave us. my manager told me they did pay the bill, but when the topic of our tip came up, the owner told her not to worry about it.

im stayin at the HH for one night in june and would like to have a great dinner out. a friend suggested the trumbull kitchen which looks tasty. american, seafood, asian, italian are great with entree prices no more than $30...THANKS

it was heard from a friend of friend so its not %100 reliable...but from what i understand it was long overdue ( what they said, not me saying it...) i heard some more details but feel weird posting on here to the public if you know what i mean...

Salad: A Thread of Appreciation

whenever i goto a potluck, this salad of mine is always requested: its my strawberry, pecan, and gouda salad. mixed greens, sliced strawberries, shredded or diced gouda, and candied pecans ( i buy them right in the bag ) with a dressing of evoo with red wine vinegar and a teaspoon of strawberry or raspberry jelly mixed in. delicious.

* Those people were pretty obnoxious but they had the other walk of life with the girl's 15th b-day party.

that family was REAL. last nights couples made me cringe. they were so awful.

* come to think of it, as they were walking up to the houses, didn't they show a brief clip where one of the chef contestants actually said something to the effect, 'these look straight out of what you would see on Real Housewives'. I always forget both are Bravo since I never watch the later. Not sure how I could forget with all the ads, however, but I try. :-)

a group of us from the berkshires are coming to boston for new years and i was put in charge of finding a restaurant for us. i really like the idea of BLUE INC. but i cant get ahold of anyone! i called their telephone number where you get a answering machine telling you to look online at their www for info and if you want to make a reservation then goto opentable.com you have the option to leave a message and i did, telling them my name & number and asking them to call me with NYE info. i also sent an email just asking if they had any info on NYE. this was a couple days ago and no answer to either...SUPER ANNOYING! i just want to talk to someone live! suggestions? TIA

ditto with above. i have not been there yet, and the only comments i hear ( from 3 different groups who have been ) is 1 - the service is beyond terrible, and 2 - the drink prices are ridiculous. i havent even heard anything about the food. i did see photos of the menu on facebook and it looked amazing. i dont know, it makes me sad. i loved the old pearls space and was super excited to have a italian place move in there. wish it could have been a more moderate priced place. i will wait a few more months to try, hopefully the staff will get the kinks out.

tomorrow i am having a BBQ and found some very tasty looking asian marinaded flank steaks. my husband has cooked regular big ol steaks on the grill before, but we have never done flanks and i want to make sure they are cooked right. any tips please? we like our meat med-rare. THANKS

CAFE ADAM in great barrington, wonderful - again

hi all

i have only been to cafe adam 2 times, last winter for my sisters 40th in december 2009 and last night. LOVED it the first time and reported on here about it and last night it was just as good again.

there were 9 of us, eating & drinking a lot. for apps we had 2 goat cheese tarts, 2 crispy onions, 1 escargot, 1 mussels ( the sauce was to die for ) and 2 winter salads. all delicious. the bread that came when we sat down...it was a dark bread with fruit? i think or nuts? killer....

dinners we had 2 burgers ( HUGE & TASTY ) duck cassoulet, hanger steak, beef tenderloin, beef bourganion (sp?) , veggie rissoto, shrimp pasta, crab stuffed whole trout.

everyone REALLY enjoed their entrees.

i had remembered last year the chocolate dessert was the best chocolate dessert i have ever had...it was on the menu and we got 3 for the table ( chocolate moltano i think its called ) and a pear dessert. the chocolate was still as tasty as i remembered...

all that food, and PLENTY of booze with %20 tip included in the bill : $567 which i really didnt think was too bad. came out to $63 a person, and boy did i eat & drink a lot for that price.

our server could have had a tad more personality, but all & all...loved it and hopefully it wont take another year to get back there.

i am surprised no one else caught this: right after the chefs finished cooking, i told my husband "carla is going home" i told him i knew %100 she was....because: in the previews/commercials leading up to the finals in bahamas they have shown the other 4 chefs in their bathing suits. i was waiting in the beginning of this episode for them to go swmming/fishing/whatever their doing but they never did. i clearly remember seeing richard, antonia, and tiffany in a bathing suit and i remember isabella commenting on padma in her suit. and NOT remembering seeing carla...

????

random thoughts too:

gail did look gorgeous, fresh and rested and just great...best ive ever seen her.

i do love richard too, but im over his self doubt craziness. enough is enough

isabella has totally grown on me and now i find myself cracking up at his goofiness

i want antonia to win the whole thing...i WOULD want richard to win and very much think he is the best, but im just over him so bad.

i loved dale the best and sad to see him go....

Market Place Cafe in Sheffield vs. Market Place @ Guidos, same salad - different prices ( by $3! )

i frequent both the market place cafe in sheffield and the market place in the store guidos, in great barrington. same business. both places have a menu where you can order items, but the cafe in sheffield there is more to choose from and there is seating. both places have a cooler they call grab & go." in the cafe, there is a caeser salad on the menu for $7.95 and $1.00 more for either bacon or chicken. at the store in guidos, SAME salad in the grab & go - $4.95. this is only romaine, croutons, cheese. same salad ( i have had it a lot ) so, a few weeks ago this price difference dawned on me. when i was in guidos, i told them about the cafe price and one guy acted really suprised, the other guy could have cared less. they said they would talk to the sheffield cafe. i went into the cafe the other day and on the menu the caeser is still $7.95 but the grab & go this time was $6.95 ????

AikiLou i am so happy to hear JA is doing well. i havent been in SO long, i am really in need of a fix.

i heard that 20RR is NOT closing too, but that napa YES is closed, for good.

the brickhouse is in housatonic, its (was) just a local hang-out bar but it was quite popular i thought.

i am sitting here in GB with my mom and she is telling me she heard that both napa & BH are closed and that 20RR is closed for renovation but possibly not opening back up....? does anyone have info? i live right here but didnt know anything....going to drive by 20 now and see if there is sign on door....

Pearls in Great Barrington turned into up-scale italian....?

i heard ( i may be way behind, sorry if everyone knows ) that 2 Texans bought Pearls and is making it a up-scale italian place. I also heard they are turning the upstairs into a hotel. i think THAT is a awesome idea. anyone have more info?
