Anyone been to Bell & Anchor (Great Barrington) recently?

i just went this past friday night. i had been there once before when they very first opened for a cocktail. i absolutely love the inside, beautiful. i remember thinking the first time when i looked at the menu "what the heck would i order?" i thought im sure everything is tasty, i just dont know what anything is! so, i went back this friday night with 2 girlfriends. there was a 20 minute wait, so we went to sit down at the bar for a drink. let me back up though - when we were standing there waiting for the host, the owner came over and introduced himself and to say hello. so then we goto the bar for a drink. we waited and waited. and waited....the bartender was very flustered and busy. we were still waiting when a new couple sits down at the bar and the owner comes behind the bar, walks by us, and goes straight to the new people and takes care of them. our table was ready before we even got our drinks, the host had to wait for us while we waited for the bartender. not a good start to the night. but then things got better...our waitress was super nice & friendly. i ordered the special which was crispy tuna belly with kale and it was delicious. i ordered another salad to go with it, im not sure i knew what half the words in description were, but the salad was wonderful - tasty greens, cheese, soft boiled egg, lemony dressing. my 2 friends both had the burger and both thought it was just OK. we didnt have dessert ( went to the old mill for that & a night cap ) but next time i would like to. i will definetely return.

they have been in a liquor store this whole time, they brought cases and cases to the dump assuming they were bad. ??? i thought that was nuts

all CA wines...

i know they arent the *greatest* wines, but i have access to cases of it free if its worth it...

Can anyone confirm rumors of 3 different new restaurants in Great Barrington?

on my way home from work tonight, my co-worker and i went to bell & anchor for the 1st time. we got there at 5:15 and the bar was 1/2 full and dining room pretty empty. i thought the place was beautiful. rustic, casual, really great. we sat at the bar and ordered a cocktail and shared some duck fat french fries. hostess & bartender very friendly. fries tasty. the menu was small i thought. had to get home, so we left at 6pm and the place was packed & lively. i look foward to going back and having a meal.

hello-

so, these are the rumors i have heard:

there is a new restaurant opening on main street, down near cumberland farms where the antique shop used to be. its been painted a really nice dark blue. i have heard 3 things: its going to be italian, its going to be a irish pub, and now today my husband heard its going to be seafood. there is no signs out front yet.

i heard a woman from west stockbridge bought the friendlys building and is turning it into a family-friendly place.

i heard cafe adam is moving across the street to the jennifer house commons, right next the the barrington brewery, where the old michael wainwright outlet shop was.

im curious about it all if anyone "really" knows!

Open bar & tipping...

i didnt say anything....he is not the uh....easiest guy to talk to.

the tips are not a substantial part of my income, we do get a good hourly, but it so interesting to see the difference event by event. i am telling you, alot of open bars people throw money at you. its interesting reading everyones thoughts.

when i bartend i make $15 a hour. we do not get any flat gratuity at the end of the night. unless my boss is keeping it...

hi all

i work at a catering/banquet hall where we have all sorts of parties ( wedding, bday, retirement, corporate functions, etc...)

when the bar is open, there is 3 choices:

1. cash bar
2. open bar & the bartender doesnt ring up anything in the register
3. open bar & the bartender does ring up every item, but doesnt charge guests but the host gets a extra bill at the end for those drinks rung up.

and let me say when its open bar, sometimes the host requests NO tip jar.

now, im always curious ( and sometimes totally pissed! ) about how the tipping goes.

when there is a cash bar, there is always a tip jar and i always get tipped ( some better than others of course...actually, last night a lady gave me .50 cents on a $7 mixed cocktail. )

when its open bar it goes both ways...and sometimes to the extreme. some people would think with a open bar people are super generous and throw money at you. that happens sometimes...and im very grateful. sometimes there is a open bar and not ONE person all night gives you a dime. its weird.

last week we did a huge funeral-after-party where there were 150 people. it was an open bar and the host said no tip jar because she was going to "tip us out" so last night when i was at work i asked the manager if the people had paid the bill yet and how much did she leave us. my manager told me they did pay the bill, but when the topic of our tip came up, the owner told her not to worry about it.

im stayin at the HH for one night in june and would like to have a great dinner out. a friend suggested the trumbull kitchen which looks tasty. american, seafood, asian, italian are great with entree prices no more than $30...THANKS

it was heard from a friend of friend so its not %100 reliable...but from what i understand it was long overdue ( what they said, not me saying it...) i heard some more details but feel weird posting on here to the public if you know what i mean...

Salad: A Thread of Appreciation

whenever i goto a potluck, this salad of mine is always requested: its my strawberry, pecan, and gouda salad. mixed greens, sliced strawberries, shredded or diced gouda, and candied pecans ( i buy them right in the bag ) with a dressing of evoo with red wine vinegar and a teaspoon of strawberry or raspberry jelly mixed in. delicious.

makes me sad....used to love, LOVE john andrews. i havent been in a few years and i live right down the road too. i heard peter got fired last week. the old mill is great...i always thought my perfect restaurant would be JAs food INSIDE the old mills space...

* Those people were pretty obnoxious but they had the other walk of life with the girl's 15th b-day party.

that family was REAL. last nights couples made me cringe. they were so awful.

* come to think of it, as they were walking up to the houses, didn't they show a brief clip where one of the chef contestants actually said something to the effect, 'these look straight out of what you would see on Real Housewives'. I always forget both are Bravo since I never watch the later. Not sure how I could forget with all the ads, however, but I try. :-)

he was talking about deperate housewives & wisteria lane

i really like paul, so glad he won. does anyone else think he reminds you of dale? im also liking ed, whitney, and dakota too. edna bugs the sh*t out of me...

i have tried to call morning, noon, and night and its only a recording. i just went to their facebook page and posted a question and it got deleted after a minute and then i posted it again just to make sure and it got deleted AGAIN. wtf?

hi all

a group of us from the berkshires are coming to boston for new years and i was put in charge of finding a restaurant for us. i really like the idea of BLUE INC. but i cant get ahold of anyone! i called their telephone number where you get a answering machine telling you to look online at their www for info and if you want to make a reservation then goto opentable.com you have the option to leave a message and i did, telling them my name & number and asking them to call me with NYE info. i also sent an email just asking if they had any info on NYE. this was a couple days ago and no answer to either...SUPER ANNOYING! i just want to talk to someone live! suggestions? TIA

ditto with above. i have not been there yet, and the only comments i hear ( from 3 different groups who have been ) is 1 - the service is beyond terrible, and 2 - the drink prices are ridiculous. i havent even heard anything about the food. i did see photos of the menu on facebook and it looked amazing. i dont know, it makes me sad. i loved the old pearls space and was super excited to have a italian place move in there. wish it could have been a more moderate priced place. i will wait a few more months to try, hopefully the staff will get the kinks out.

well, bbq done and over with and the flank steak was GREAT! although i drove my DH crazy while cooking it, making sure all the details were done, the steak was delicious and my family raved. thanks so much.
